Lord of the Rings at IOA?

Universal Orlando: Latest rumor says that with the success of Harry Potter, Universal are apparently planning a Lord of the Rings area. Just a rumor but I think it sound quite good, just with the rumored expansion of the Wizarding World where would they put it?

It sound like with Harry Potter and Lost Continant and this apparent rumor it sounds like they are turning the park into a Magical/Medievil/Mythological theme park...what awaits of Suess, Marvel and Toon Lagoon :O

I don't see where they could fit yet another land.

I am curious as to where you heard this rumor. I remember hearing a similar piece of gossip in 2007. At the time, Universal had received the license to use the New Line Cinema horror characters(Freddy, Jason and Leatherface) for that year's edition of Halloween Horror Nights. Supposedly, negotiations went really well between both companies and Universal also got the rights to make a land and attraction based on the Lord of the Rings films as well. The land was allegedly going to replace the rest of The Lost Continent that wasn't being repurposed for Harry Potter. Since then, I haven't heard anything else to validate these claims. It seems increasingly unlikely that this is going to happen, especially with the success of the Wizarding World and the likelihood that the rest of The Lost Continent will be used to expand Harry Potter. Now, I would loved to see an attraction based on LOTR. It is bound to be thematically rich. However, I don't think it's happening anytime soon given the legal complications involved in acquiring the rights at this time.

Well at first I came across it while looking for any info on the HP exspansion. But now you can just Google it an quite a few sites reporting the same thing come up but we still have to keep in mind that it is just a rumor.

Rumours are much more interesting than the truth.

Well, there was a survey Universal did earlier this year that seemed to be testing the waters for additional characters/lands - Lord of the Rings was included in the list of potentials, along with Family Guy, Fast and the Furious, Grand Theft Auto, and Mickey Mouse.

Yes, Mickey Mouse was included in the survey of potential characters for Universal. Not sure what they were going for with that one.

Of course that means nothing. A survey is just a survey. But Lord of the Rings was absolutely the most interesting option listed.

That survey sounds veeeery interesting to me. Of course lord of the rings would be a great new land. I think they should take out the lost continent and make that lord of the rings.

I believe they should also morph the simpsons land into the simpsons AND family guy because that would be a great simulator to go beside the simpsons ride.

Absolutely no space to do this in the park. Yeah you can replace the Lost Continent with LOTR but the space would be so small that the concept would be wasted in such a small space. They may do a ride, maybe even a big one, which would be great, but not a land like in Harry Potter.

I could see this being a replacement for Marvel and perhaps Toon Lagoon. I believe that this is the primary reason the Hulk has yet to see a fresh coat of paint.

The hulk needs work for sure, but even with the success of harry potter I don't know of they have the money for that yet, let alone another new attraction

Rumors abound that Universal is in talks with author JK Rowling about expanding IOA's Harry Potter offerings. Maybe the addition of other themes has been put on hold while the juggernaut that is Harry Potter continues to roll?

Lord of the Rings would be an awesome addition to the Islands of Adventure...Question though where would you put it? Harry Potter needs to be expanded obviously as it will take up the Lost Continent Land. Looking at the aeriel views of Islands of Adventure..there is room behind Harry Potter maybe? There is a soundstage building & huge parking lot there...I dont know where Universal's property ends.

Second, Universal has other major issues going on right now to worry about Lord of Rings. #1 What to do with Marvel's Super Hero Island now that Disney owns the rights to Marvel & what to do with the outdated Toon Lagoon (Perfect time since Dudley Do Right caught on fire)

Other members have advised Universal Orlando to pick up other known worldwide francises such as Nintendo,Star Trek & James Bond. I concur because its not like Disney is going to do anything in terms of Marvel in any of their parks...Disney is too concerned in expanding the princess Fantasyland & expanding their Pixar presence in their parks (By the way, I love Pixar & their movies)...In the words of Nike...just do it Universal

I think that Harry potter should go into Jurassic park if expanded. There isn't really much to do there anyways and it could be cut in half. Lord of the rings should become the lost continent because they could turn sinbad into a lord of the rings show, have the eye of saroan as another light house/ the inside could be a drop tower. The posideans fury could become the new lord of the rings dark ride.mythos would just be renamed.
