Last week at your amusement park...July 11, 2011A digest of amusement park news and rumors...and a couple of rants...with a sense of humor...
From Jeff ElliottGeneral Safety – I am sure that by now everyone has heard about the death on the Ride of Steel at Darien Lake. My thoughts go out to the friends and family. But this does bring up a point that I don’t think can be mentioned enough....be safe out there! Now before you start thinking that I have lost my edge, please keep in mind that telling you all to be safe is really self-serving. By having too many injuries on rides that I enjoy, it means that the rides will be in danger of being shut down, which makes me sad, for both the people that were injured and the ride itself. Too many times we have heard of rides cast off from their homes, wandering the world in search of people to amuse only to find it accosted by haggis manufacturers at every corner, trying to cook their innards and.......well completely getting off on a bizarre tangent...the point is that major amusement park rides wandering around block traffic and.....nope still off on a tangent.....what was the point? The point was that it is up to you to keep the homeless population of rides down by staying safe....I think.....

Shanghai Disneyland – The leaks keep coming out about rides that may show up at the new park. While nothing is set in stone until the paint is bought, it appears that there will be Peter Pan and Winnie the Pooh queues for the real star of the show: the FastPass kiosks.
Universal Hollywood – Construction continues on the miniature golf course. I don't know how many people here know who Kevin Smith is....he is the guy who plays Silent Bob while writing and directing all of the movies that he has been in. Anyway, Kevin Smith and all of his friends occupy and broadcast podcasts from the top floor of the Jon Lovitz Comedy Club on the CityWalk not close, but definitely in the neighborhood of the new miniature golf course. Of the many friends and stars that do live podcasting is Katie Morgan from Kevin Smith’s Zach and Miri movie, among other things. While it is quite a distance away, rumor has it that if you hit the window with a golf ball and interrupt Katie’s podcast you can win a free t-shirt that says, "My stroke silenced Katie Morgan". ((And do yourself a favor and don't try to do an image search of Katie Morgan while at work...fair warning))
Monkey Kingdom (China) – More details and artwork has leaked out about this project showing that they will have many more FastPass kiosks than Shanghai Disneyland. Their FastPasses are also going to be smaller and faster and probably better organized.
Legoland Forida – With 99 days to go before opening, the park is on schedule and ready to open with a full spectrum of exciting FastPass kiosks made out of Legos.
Not a whole lot of news if you filter out all of the people who were hurt this week. Stay safe out there! I'm to the point that I would report on a water skiing squirrel....or pig racing....
Create My Caption – In the discussion thread in post your best caption for the following picture. I would give picture credit, but there are about a hundred different places this was posted.....we will have to call that public domain…
If I have missed anything (and I have, so no worries there) please post below. If you have some inside information, more news, more rumors, first rides, please share with the rest of us.

Caption: Rachel sees M. Night Shyamalan waiting for her at the bottom of the slide...
From Mike GallagherI love Kevin Smith. Chasing Amy is a wonderfully funny, romantic, sometimes sad, oddly touching movie, featuring the best JAWS parody in history..and for those of you who haven't seen it, that parody has nothing to do with what you might think.

From Jeff ElliottCaption: Despite the way it looks, she was slapped on the back earlier in the day and the face stuck...
