Also one of ron's possible jobs is Auror I think.

EDIT: And Bellatrix was Sirius's cousin, so I'm gonna guess her maiden name was Black. Also I just imbd'd the director, so I won't say it. But he would've been awesome.

From Jeff Elliott
Posted July 14, 2011 at 2:01 PM
@ Eric S

9. Correct!
16. You got the original response from JK, but she has recently changed Ron's occupation to something else...and the second answer somewhat makes more sense...

I don't know about awesome (on JK's director pick), but it would have been much more strange...

From Eric S

There's certain kinds of directors that should make fantasy movies IMO and I think he would most definitely have done them justice.

From Jeff Elliott
Posted July 14, 2011 at 2:26 PM
Don't get me wrong....I am a huge fan of this director and particularly a huge fan of the group he came from...

But....like Stanley Kubrick.....his films are the director's films first.....even when Kubrick did The Shining, it was a Kubrick film first....

.....I just think JK's story would have gotten lost in this director's vision....

Question 6: Dolores Umbridge took it
Question 18: Filch's Emporium of Confescated Goods
Question 22: Mundungus Fletcher

From AJ Hummel
Posted July 14, 2011 at 4:08 PM
I'll take a guess at some of them, although it has been a long time since I read the books (except Deathly Hallows).

5. October 31st (Halloween) of 1981
6. Dolores Umbridge took it and used it to spy on ministry workers. Harry then recovered it and buried it in the forest the next day.
10. Snape ripped it so he could have a picture of Lily, who he loved.
11. Tom Riddle and Merope Gaunt
12. Ron gives him a book and Ginny gives him a kiss
15. Teddy is Lupin and Tonk's son, Victorie is Bill and Fleur's daughter
23. Harry becomes Albert Runcorn, Ron becomes Reginard Cattermole, Hermione becomes Mafalda Hopkirk

Also, I'm pretty sure there were only 5 people in Harry's dormitory, although I could be incorrect.

From Jeff Elliott
Posted July 14, 2011 at 4:44 PM
@ AJ

You would be correct about the people living in Harry's dorm for books 4 through 6....

From Eric S
Posted July 14, 2011 at 5:43 PM
20. He wanted an American for Harry.
24. Ginny
25. Fleur was before she was in a Harry movie... if that counts.
26. Crabbe
(Sorry idk their names. I hope I get something :P)
I think that Ron's, Neville's and harry's wands all came from Ollivanders. But I know Ron's was a hand-me-down from Percy, so Neville's might have been from his Dad. The whomping willow broke ron's wand and I think Voldemort broke Harry's.
30. Is quite the complicated question. Voldemort cast the spell, but technically the wand was Harry's although he never held it.

EDIT: Not to question your authority, but I'm almost positive each house has 5 people per gender per year. And I agree that Rowling's vision might have gotten lost. She's really particular about that, and I'm pretty sure that's why she stopped negotiating with Disney.

From AJ Hummel
Posted July 14, 2011 at 5:52 PM
^^Of course. I can't believe I forgot that. Peter Pettigrew (aka Wormtail) was in the dormitory as well for the first three, but he was disguised as Scabbers. That is probably why I didn't think of him.

So the six are Harry, Ron, Neville, Dean, Seamus, and Peter.

I never realized that the Potter stories were supposed to take place in the nineties. Rowling did a really good job of not really dating her work (and it seems that the filmmakers did as well - I can't really think of anything in the outside world that would have been anachronistic (unless the London Eye snuck into a wide shot)).

From AJ Hummel

A few more guesses

31. Cornelius Fudge, Rufus Scrimgeour, Pius Thicknesse, Kingsley Shacklebolt
32. Harry repairs his wand and returns the elder wand to Dumbledore's tomb
37. He blows it up himself by hitting an Erumpent horn with a spell
38. The death eaters destroy it after he breaks the taboo
49. Repairs minor injuries, such as a broken nose
52. Finite Incantatum
55. Temporary connect the Dursley's house to the floo network and transport Harry directly to the Burrow. I believe this was done in the fourth book and didn't violate any laws at that time, so it seems like it would work again.

Also, I went to see Deathly Hallows: Part 2 at the midnight showing last night. It was very good, but there were a ton of changes from the book. Probably my second favorite installment after Prisoner of Azkaban.

For 65 were you thinking of Wormtail?

From Jeff Elliott

@ Steve

YES!!!

It is doubtful that Dobby did anything more than just stun Peter (part of the code of the house elves)....but in the book, Wormtail's magical hand punishes him for is momentary lack of resolve...

Re: Question 55

1. The side along apparition was the original plan, but apparently it is being monitored by the ministry.

2. I totally agree with you. This is the response I had in mind when I asked the question, but I'm sure we can come up with more! The only problem with this method is that the house was being monitored for magic....but that didn't stop all of the others from taking Polyjuice in the Dursley's house. Wouldn't it have been cooler if they had all taken Mad-Eye or Kingsley polyjuice?

For number 83, they should've used Avada Kedavra. It always bugged me that they didn't use that to destroy any of the horcruxes.

Question 55, one more time - Oh yeah, if only there was a way Harry could leave the house without being seen. If only he had an invisibility cloak that was powerful enough to hide him from death itself. OH WAIT, he does (and I can't believe the movie never even bothered to mention that he had part of the Deathly Hollows all along).

From Alan Hiscutt
Posted July 18, 2011 at 8:27 AM
*************************************
Question 82:

Well, I d have to say that if we go by the current spells we know of then the creating of Horcruxes would have to be considered the 4th unforgiveable and with that in mind, I would like to venture the Stealing of ones soul capturing it within an object. Someone elses soul. This would violate the highest of morals and solidify with what we have heard of the way Horcruxes are crested. Forcibly removing someone elses soul may actually be worse that Avada Kedavra.

*************************************
Question 83:
(To rectify, Avada Kedavra was used to destroy a horcrux, Harry was attacked with it which in turn killed the part of Voldemorts soul taht was traped within him. Just saying...)
Considering that we are expected to be creative here, I would say that throwing it through the Veil (as seen in Order of the Pheonix) would work.

*************************************
Question 84:
Well for one he wouldnt have sent his Patronus to lead Harry to the Sword. Noe would he have given his memories to Harry. I think however, most importantly, he would not have stayed at Hogwarts. This really was the key to everything, If he wasnt at Hogwarts then no doubt the school would have been in a much more dire situation than it was when Harry returned. I could easily see Him finding ways round the enchantments on Grimauld Place and leading Voldemort to the Order. Essentially, Harry gets it right. Snape was the Bravest man. What he must have endured from both sides, the suspicion, the scorn. Fact that he stayed true to Lily was testament to his powers. I think a better question would have been, "If Neville were the chosen one, Would Snape have effected the war" and I think he would. He was a very powerful wizard, Able to hide his mind from Voldemort, and Brave. in addition to the reasons already mentioned, to stand up to the Dark Lord with no visual weakness, yes in my opinon, had Neville been the chosen one, then Vldemort would never have fallen and Snape may well have been the second most dangerous wizard in history.

*************************************
Question 85:

Im sure that the TPA crew would have ideas about this. Obviously you could just remove the Lost Continent, turn it into Diagon Alley which is a very obvious choice. Id go the other way. Id try to incorporate the Pteradactyl Fliers. Make them Brooms, its a fairly easy thing to do, as Much as I love the Jurassic park ride, you could change that into a 'Tour of Gringotts' and have the drop the Thiefs downfall. Even add in a waterfall at the top of the drop. AND expand into Lost Continent. The Atlantis tour could easily be swapped to a tour of Nurmengard. The Triwzard Tournament could be shown daily at dusk, lots of special effects, wands, Death Eaters, the whole shibang. Wouldnt require much, just a redressing id imagine.

*************************************
Question 86:

In truth I dont think it would have made much difference. Lucuis was already deemed surplus by Voldemort, his sons defection wouldnt have changed much other than maybe Luciuis being killed, but ultimately it would have effected the events. Voldemort was always going to want to kill Harry and so i dont think the fact Dumbledore was alive could have changed his mind on that. It may have delayed things by a year at most, BUT like Dumbledore says, Harry would have chosen to hunt him down anyway, so chances are, it wouldnt have made a difference. Maybe even made things harder for Harry. Having your mentor alive is a temptation to seek help or at least advice and then Voldemort would have kown where Harry was. I dont beleive that Draco had the sense to remove the vanishing cabinets on his return in the last year and I would guess Death Eaters would have found a way into the Castle regardless of the defences. The thing is here, The over riding thing is, The Prophecy was heard and it was going to be fulfilled. It really doesnt matter if Draco went AWOL or Albus lived. Voldy was out to kill Harry and he wasnt going to let anything stop him.

*************************************
Question 87:

Im a fan boy. It should include an online Hogwarts V Deatheaters battle IMO but ill buy it regardless.

*************************************
Question 88:

Again, as before. Ginny and Harry as a couple I dont think would have changed a whole bunch. If we assume that all other things are the same and only their relationship changes, Harry would still have gone off hunting Horcruxes. The only think I see changing is Ginny going with them. And with Ginny, maybe Ron would never have done a runner. Other than that it would be pretty much the same. For the reasons stated in Q86

#81- step 1, take bicorn horn smash with hammer put in cauldron, stir clockwise. step 2, take 5 knotgrass plants grid them and put in cauldron and stir counter clockwise. step 3, take boomslang skin cut up with knife put in cauldron and stir clockwise. step 4, (final step) take 5 leeches and smash with hammer and put in cauldron and stir counter clockwise.

#85- I would love to see WWOHP expanded. Keep in mind since I dont have to scale plans and demintions from the park I am not sure all of this would work but here it goes. I think they should turn the area between WWOHP and the Sindbad Show into Diagon Alley I think there would be enough room to do it and then they could leave part of Lost Continet and they could leave Mythos untouched. Now somewhere in LC (which wouldnt be very big anymore) they would need to fit a ride of some kind because the only things left would be Mythos and Poseidons Fury. In Diagon Alley they could use the Sindbad Show building to turn into Gringotts and make a Gringotts roller coaster simular to The mummy type of coaster. Then the could move olivanders wand shop to Diagon alley and make it a little bigger to move the crowds of poeple through faster. I figure trying to use some of the existing buildings and not taking over all of the Lost Continet would be the most cost effective way of expanding WWOHP.

A few more

28. Ron's wand came from one of his brothers and it was broken by the Whomping Willow in his second year
29. Harry's wand came from Ollivander's and was broken by Hermione's Confringo curse in Godric's Hollow, but later repaired with the Elder Wand.
76. Tag your partner and attack Mrs. Norris.

And for number 65, Gellert Grindelwald was killed by Voldemort in the book but lived in the movie, so he is a possible answer as well.

Question 84: Speculate on how Snape would have acted differently if he were really still in the exclusive service of the dark lord.

"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" is a considerably shorter book with no sequels required.

Hogwarts - First day of classes

Snape: "Welcome to Potions class. Avada Kevrada! The rest of you will turn to page 73."

While very funny, there is a couple of points to make.

At the beginning of book 6, Snape mentions to Bellatrix and Narcissa that when Potter showed up at Hogwarts, there were some who thought that he would be the next dark lord and they were not eager to kill the boy because of that.

And the fact that since the Dark Lord had been missing for so long, he thought that he was gone for good.

Q 65 - I'm pretty sure Colin Creevey wasn't shown dying in the movie, but he died in the book?

Colin wasn't shown much if at all in the final movies, and yes, Harry finds out about Colin and his little brother dying right around the time he sees Tonks and Lupin...

@ Alan
The only ones I didn't give you credit for were the ones where your answer was close to "not much". While a perfectly good answer on its own, and arguably very accurate, I was hoping someone would take the opportunity to think outside of the box....at which point "not much" is not much of an answer......and lets be honest.....it is not like you need the points here, you answered every other question I could come up with and several before I even had the question....

@ Everyone
Alan and I are seriously considering doing more trivia challenges. While we have a couple of ideas (or lets be honest here....they were Alan's ideas), we are interested to see what types of trivia challenges people want and what type of format we want it in. The free form of this thread seemed to work ok, but it did have its issues (mainly with the host, but I will attempt to be better about that).....this is basically a plea for ideas to make this better.....

Thats perfectly understandable :) Just so ling as I know they were ignored on merit LOL.

@Everyone

the trivia(s) we may or may not do are not set in stone yet, as jeff said any input would be greatly recieved. I myself would love a star wars one (but thats because I am a geek) but keep in mind the theme of TPI, so we wont be doing a Boston legal one for example (again that sucks. Love that show)
