The Loudest Ride?Which ride can be the loudest when experienced?
From James Trexen
What do you think is the loudest ride? For me, it'd have to be Jurassic Park with all the screeching dinos, but Twister is a close second.Posted July 22, 2011 at 3:23 PM

"when experienced" makes me have to think about this. Normally I would say Superman at SFMM is the loudest ride, when you walk under the track.Posted July 22, 2011 at 3:44 PM

Countdown to Extinction (yes, before "Dinsosnore")Posted July 22, 2011 at 3:47 PM I went with my family a year after AK opened and all got FP's for CTX and then waited in standby, rode it, and by the time we got out we could use our FP's. The rest of the family said they weren't interested, so I took the rest of their FP's and went on 3 more times after that. Fun, however it resulted in a HUGE MIGRAINE that didn't go away until later the next day, ugh.

Kumba at BGT used to be one of the loudest coaster in the country, but the new paint job has softened the roar quite a bit. Deja Vu's are all ear piercingly loud.Posted July 22, 2011 at 5:30 PM

Dinosaur at AK is probably the loudest I've experienced.Posted July 23, 2011 at 9:23 AM

Twister is pretty loud. I also found all the cartoonish screams on Jimmy Neutron to be very loud and ear ringing.Posted July 23, 2011 at 10:46 AM

It's not really a ride, and I haven't been there this year yet, but usually the music being played on the midway at Cedar Point is just to the left of deafening. Throw in the Raptor roaring by and we need to use sign language to communicate.Posted July 23, 2011 at 7:24 PM

Mantis at Cedar Point was purposely designed to be the world's loudest ride. It was originally named "Banshee" in which the tagline was something along the lines of "Hear the wail of Banshee". The name was changed, and thus so was all the information regarding "the worlds loudest ride"Posted July 26, 2011 at 6:08 AM

Kumba at Busch Gardens Tampa is the loudest I think I have been on.Posted July 26, 2011 at 6:21 AM

rolling thunder at SFGADv has an extremely loud screeching sound and el Toro is also very loud but not annoying because the noice is result due to the high swift speed of trains on a wodden trackPosted July 26, 2011 at 11:42 AM

Since I'm partly deaf, a ride has to be AWFULLY loud for me to notice it. I'll go with Bizarro at SF Great Adventure. Dominator at Kings Dominion might be another candidate.Posted July 26, 2011 at 11:42 AM

Travis, I've ridden Toro over 600 times. Deaf or not, I don't find it unusually loud. Rolling Thunder has that one really noisy segment you mentioned..on the turnaround. Like fingernails on a blackboard X 100!Posted July 26, 2011 at 11:45 AM

Definantly the old Superman: The Escape ride at SFMM...Posted July 26, 2011 at 10:50 PM Haven't been there since it reopened as the revamped Superman Escape From Krypton ride, so I have no clue wheter this still applies... I do recall it being pretty ear-screaching loud whenever you're anywhere near the bridge the track crosses over...but it was also pretty decernible throughout the park and parking lot area.... The joke among those of us that frequented the park was that if you could hear a missle-like noise cutting through the air then you KNEW Superman was open for sure! XD
From Randy Stellar
Yeah, Superman sounds like a missle. Kumba is loud but it's a dull roar so it isn't as bothersome. Posted July 27, 2011 at 5:39 AM

I don't know if I'm the only one, but I've always thought that the first lift on Big Thunder Mountain (WDW) is incredibly loudPosted July 28, 2011 at 7:43 AM

@Scott, you're right when you say it's loud. But it is definitely not the loudest you'll find.Posted July 28, 2011 at 1:23 PM

Dinosaur is one of the loudest. When the Carnosaur is roaring at you, that's one of the scariest moments in any ride. Love it. Posted July 28, 2011 at 1:45 PM

I have to go Hulk at IOA on this one.... it was designed by the manufaturer to "roar" by tuning the actual track with slots for noise to escape at certain frequencies.Posted July 28, 2011 at 7:20 PM You can hear it all the way from the Hard Rock Hotel, which is probably why they have music playing until the parks close... The noise coming from that thing is unreal, but it was designed to sound menacing, other coasters are simply noisy by acccident or poor design. Rip Ride Rockit has to be the most quiet coaster.... the track and supports are filled with sand and pea gravel to keep it minimal. They did this because Universal has no loud rides and it races around the front gate area. Since it is so close to CityWalk, the front gates and goes right past the Blue Man Group theater, they wanted it to be almost noiseless. And it is... we all noticed it on our last trip.
