Eyesore Roller Coasters

Just a rant, take it as you will.

I was recently looking at pictures of the new coaster going in at Hershey Park and was kind of appalled at how intrusive is was to the rest of the park. I love coasters, but I really get frustrated when they destroy continuity and vistas at theme parks, especially older theme parks. I recognize that some parks have nowhere to expand upon, but it seems just as bad to invade every last bit of space you have with loud coasters.

Another example of this is at BGW. I am a huge fan of how Seaworld/BG has done such a good job with meshing their coasters with the terrain (loch ness, montu, manta (Orlando), and Kumba.) However, Griffon really hurt the vibe of BGW. Before, BGW seemed like a huge park and when they added Griffon and tore out a lot of trees, you can see much more of the park which makes it feel much smaller. It also breaks the continuity when you can see France from Germany and Scotland.

I guess I just wish parks would think more carefully about how their coasters will impact
the lasting effect their parks have on patrons.

An example of how to do this right is Dollywood. Every single one of their coasters uses the land and stays within a certain area rather than shattering the boundaries between different themed areas.

Just a rant, take it as you will.

It sounds like your biggest concern is the packing of coasters tightly together in one area. In your examples of BGW and HP, both parks really had nowhere else to put the coasters, or it would be due to it costing to much to place the coaster elsewhere. I think in both cases (Skyrush and Griffon) the parks really did their best to make the coasters compliment the park nicely.

Rip Ride Rockit is an eyesore in USF, it does not mesh at all with the rest of the park IMO.

RRR does ruin the back lot but it's a good coaster.

Cheetah Hunt runs through pretty much the whole of Busch Gardens Tampa - and they shut down half of a ride to put it in. That thing is a real eyesore! (It is still fun to ride though)

There is the situation that Cedar Popint has- the land is completely flat. The coasters and other tall attractions there are what gives CP its amazing appearance. I've been going there since the 1960's, and every time we cross the causeway and see the park out in the middle of Lake Erie I think "Wow! What a sight!"

There used to be a bunch of animals in the seringetti until cheeta hunt came the ride is not that good but they wanted to have a steel monster right in the middle o the park the seringetti was good before cheetah hunt also another eyesore is kumba ether take it down or make it smooth its a headache as much as it is a eyesore

I guess pat of my concern is the perpetuity of a park's feel. An example of what I am talking about would be Hypersonic XLC formerly at Kings Dominion. While KD is not the most beautiful park, that coaster cut through several areas of the park. And I understand making due with what you have, but it can turn a "theme" park into an "amusement" park. If you are working with heavy themeing, in the way that BGW does, and you stake some of your name on it, this is sort ride is working against you in some ways.

While Hershey doesn't have the heavy themeing, there is a certain history to that park that is somehow harmed by pile driving a coaster through the center of it.

Iron Wolf - Six Flags Great America. "Let's paint a coaster rust color... OK, sounds like a great idea". Not to mention it's one of the most uncomfortable, noisy crotch busters I have ever ridden.

I also think Rip Ride Rockit is is the wrong place. I think it was put there so you could see it from IOA and from almost anywhere in Universal. It does stand out at night, however.

I didn't know they took out a bunch of trees for Griffon. That would be a better looking park if it wasn't concrete from France around to England.

And now the people of Maryland and D.C. will know those simple pleasures...

I rode Iron Wolf once, and that was more than enough. When I next make it to SFA, I'll probably ride it for the "new" credit :)...but I'm not happy they removed Skull Mountain to make room for it in Maryland. That was one of the best water/flume rides in existence.
