Men in Black is my favorite Dom. I really hope they get Dreamworks and Nickelodeon to replace the outdated WWPKZ. Even if they make the new movie it will be a fad. I hope they put in Far Far Away castle with a new film for Shrek4d that's in Singaopore and the original Madagascar ride they can't be that big since the whole park is 49 acres. They can turn the Dragon shrek jr. coaster into How to train your dragon, replace the animal show with a Kung Fu Panda, and turn the water area to Penguins. I also hope they put a Mummy kiddie style ride with animatronics for Shrek. Dora ride and Spongebob ride and a Krusty Krab. ET could replace Shrek 4d and get updated because it looks old.How many acres is the Kids Zone anyway?

Matt they could just relocate ET to a new location with it being updated and put something relevant to children in that spot. Also Matt is there any extra land in US that in the World Expo so what are they suppose to continue just retheming rides with the same system unless there is some land they can buy to expand the 2 current parks next to the resort.

@Dom: DC comics are already at Six Flags parks, and Marvel might be leaving soon. As many people have said in the past, Nintendo sounds like a great idea. But, IMO, if it were limited to one land, using one franchise would make sense (preferably Mario or The Legend of Zelda). If they wanted to do multiple franchises, UOR could build an entire Nintendo theme park next to IOA (Disney better not get the rights to Nintendo games like they did w/ Avatar)!

From Tasia P
Posted January 16, 2012 at 9:41 PM
Jorge Marvel won't be leaving for at least the next 10 years. Spiderman extreme upgrade should have been a sign to people who believe Uni is about to back down to Disney and let them buy out the contract. Harry "Potter is giving them too much confidence now. After they get a few new rides in the Studios I expect them to change Toon Lagoon and add to Marvel in IoA, but if Harry Potter keeps bringing in more cash I can see Uni not waiting years like Disney does.

From Tim Hillman
Posted January 17, 2012 at 9:01 AM
If IOA expanded by adding a Lord of the Rings land, I think it would put them over the top in a comparison with any Disney park. The LOTR franchise has rich storylines with an appeal across multiple generations.

Despite what a certain Disney fanboy thinks, once Universal gets done with the Harry Potter expansion (a brilliant move!), they should focus on getting LOTR in their parks.

From Ashleigh Noad
Posted January 17, 2012 at 9:13 AM
Wow, Nintendo? Noone has EVER discussed that idea on here before!
;)

Anyway, I'd like the "I'm Bill Paxton' attraction to go. Keep ET, it's one of the last classics.

In terms of new franchises, I'm not too sure. But I'd love to see some more 'movie making' attractions, similar to the old Hitchcock attraction I believe.

USF out:
I think Twister and T2 3D has probably run its course along with Barney, Curious George, Woody Woodpecker, Fievel's, Animal Actors, Fear Factor, and Beetlejuice.
USF in:
Dream Works kids land area, Bourne Identity stunt show, Fast & Furious ride (similar to test track. Not just a simulator), a ride including the Universal monsters, and Transformers.

IOA out:
The rest of the Lost Continent, JP Discovery Center, Dragon Challenge (since they can't duel anymore), Dr. Dooms Fear Fall, and Storm Force.
IOA in:
An Ironman ride, Avengers ride, Dr. Seuss the Lorax ride, and maybe a LOTR Land.

Obviously these are just wants and most likely not achievable for many reasons.

From Andy Milito
Posted January 18, 2012 at 2:13 PM
"Grow up". Sound familiar, Dom? No need to freak out and nearly pee yourself. Why do you hate LotR so much? The writing is different than today's standards, but it's a classic.

And a full out Krustyland? Matt Groenig is just paying you to do this at this point.

Ashleigh, that's not a bad idea (the movie making experience). They ought to get Spielberg to do it :)

From Kelly Muggleton

I'm laughing to myself at Ashleigh's post - I always say without fail 'I'm Bill Paxton' whenever anyone so much as mentions Twister! :-))

I would love Uni to get something original back like the Alfred Hitchcock 'experience' they had back in the day. It was such a cool way to spend 20 minutes. I still get shivers thinking about 'Mother' standing right in front of me with that knife....
They do horror so well at HHN that a scary attraction would be great! Not necessarily the Scream or Saw franchise - but something that effect.

From Bob Liebe

South Park would never work for the same reason a Family Guy ride wouldn't. They would have to tone down the attraction so much (no rude humor or profanity) that they would get rid of what makes the shows funny and great. The Simpsons Ride was toned down and successful, but the Simpsons is nowhere near as "risque" as South Park or Family Guy. But nice thought.

Obviously, Universal needs to Compete with Disney, and if Disney Is adding a si-fi Avatar area, mabye Universal could add a Halo themed area in IOA (but i dont know where they would add it) or retheme the MIB ride/ area and the demolished jaws area to make an area themed like it (which would be the better idea). It would cater to the millions of Halo Fanboys and theme park goers, just like Harry Potter did. I got the idea when I saw them selling Halo toys at the Terminator 2 3D gift shop. They could easily retheme the MIB ride to make it a halo lazer shooting ride and make a new ride much like the Mission: space ride that is at Disney's Epcot park where you are on the pillar of autumn and crash land on the Halo ring. The Merch would sell like crazy, and it would also advertise the possibility of a Halo Movie. If not, why not the possibility of a Hunger Games themed area?

From Caroline Davis

How about they get ride of Twister?

I don't know whether they have to focus on franchises, maybe they should buck that trend a bit. Choosing a well-loved film either from the last couple of years, or from further back (like previous ideas in this thread: Blues Brothers, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).

I'd love a ride based on the Alien franchise, with Prometheus coming out this year. But there's a section in The Great Movie Ride at Disney, so it's unlikely.

You probably won't see an all new ride at Universal until Project 722 (Potter phase 2) is complete. I am betting that Fear Factor goes away and Transformers goes in its place at some point.

From Nick Markham
Posted April 5, 2012 at 7:14 AM
If I am correct, I do believe the area Fear factor occupies is part of the Harry Potter phase 2 expansion. I could be wrong, but that is what I had thought. Can anyone confirm or correct this?

From Tim Odom
Posted April 5, 2012 at 8:28 AM
Nick, that is rumored, but as with all of Potter phase 2, it is very uncomfirmed. It really would depend on how bit Potter phase 2 will be if that is indeed their plan.

From Rob Pastor
Posted April 5, 2012 at 8:40 AM
Fear Factor is not part of the area commonly reported as Phase 2 expansion(see Screamscape's breakdown). But that doesn't mean that it wouldn't be used for future expansion after Phase 2 is completed. It wouldn't make economic sense for Universal to close too much of their entertainment space at one time.

From Skipper Adam

THE QUESTION: What should Universal get next?

THE ANSWER: An attraction that allows hotel guests to park for free.

From N B
Posted April 6, 2012 at 6:08 PM
TH, that would be nice but since you have to pay for parking, go valet for a few extra dollars a day. I abuse the unlimited front door service to its limit. They added a feature where you simply text from your mobile and your car is waiting.

You wouldn't stay on-site at Universal anyways. The Disney cabal you are a member of wouldn't allow it.

The obvious bias of this thread's topic makes me laugh. Universal attractions that are 10 to 15 years old are often referred to as "dated" on this site. But Disney attractions that are 10 to 50 years old are referred to as "classics", especially during votes. I appreciate & like both Disney & Universal. Why do such incomprehensible stances exist?

From Andrew Mooney
Posted April 7, 2012 at 3:12 AM
Dom, what exactly is Disney friendly? Disney - and their subsidiaries Miramax (1993 - 2010) and Touchstone - have released adult movies such as Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction. Disney is so much larger than a child related media company.

Rob, I view PotC and the Haunted Mansion as classic rides. I can ride them today and they still feel fresh and well maintained. These rides have created movie scripts and Pirates has spun out a whole new Disney franchise. On the other hand, I've not been on many Universal rides because of motion sickness, so cannot comment on them being dated.

From N B
Posted April 7, 2012 at 3:44 AM
Rob, you haven't figured it out yet? If you think the bias is bad at TPI, hit the official Disney forums when you have some time.

I think they came up with secret handshakes that have something to do with a mouse and swear an oath not to reveal what goes on behind closed doors.

NB, why do you think Mr. Disney designed Mickey with big ears? Did you never notice how much they look like sound-focusing antenna? They don't need to put them to the ground- just face towards your general direction and the suits in Aneheim can probably hear the blood running through your veins! They already know what you posted- it's been nice talking wi....what...who are you?...HEY! LET GO OF M.... . . .

Yes, guys, unfortunately I understand very well. I just thought that the thread's topic made it a good time to point out the absurdity of the Disney vs. Universal attraction positions. But I go back to when they served the Mickey Kool Aid. It's effects are lifetime lasting. Actually, the reason that I spend way more time on this site than Disney sites is that at least Robert Niles and a large number of bloggers are fairly subjective. Maybe I shouldn't have retired from playing/coaching soccer this year. I have way too much time on my hands.

I think I have TH figured out as well. He loves to go around nit picking grammar and spelling, then posts your mistakes publicly for all to see how intelligent he is. I type fast, and I really don't care if there are grammatical errors.

All I have to do is use Firefox instead of IE, which would underline incorrectly spelled words, but it's more fun to see TH get his undies in a bunch over this type of thing.
