Replacement for JAWS/ LOTR

Universal Orlando: Hey guys. First post and I was thinking about the possibility of a Lord Of The Rings themed area could be the replacement for JAWS? Sounds realistic and it would definitely bring more customers than JAWS did.

What do you guys think?

I would rather see Harry Potter or something else. LOTR never did much for me.

LOTR is a dead horse topic. Must we beat it some more?

And the Jaws area is too small. I really don't like to say this, but this is a silly idea.

Lord of the Rings is a bad idea. How about something that's ACTUALLY a Universal franchise (other than American Pie)?

^^I'll take an American Pie attraction if it means I can go to Band Camp with Alyson Hannigan.

Despite what all of you naysayers think, Lord of the Rings is a great idea for a section of a theme park! The only problem with the old Jaws area as Skipper Adam pointed out, is that the Jaws area is too small for a LOTR attraction. LOTR deserves a whole land in a park!

The only other thing I can think of that's part of universal is Fast And The Furious and let's face it.. It would be awful.

We could have a Back to the Future section. It could include the town square and Emmitts lab as well as a new type of Back to the Future ride. BTW welcome to the forum Steve.

Back to the Future sounds awesome and probably would have been realistic 20 or 25 years ago.

It could be themed as the alternate Hill Valley of 1985 with a Biff Tannen casino and bikers everywhere.

Another cool thing would be a western theme but I just realized that Star Trek came out not long ago, Tron Legacy, and Thor. So maybe we'll be seeing some futuristic stuff, but not related to Back To The Future.

Oh yeah, thanks Orrin.

Just out of curiosity, what do people not like about Lord of the Rings(or Middle Earth in general)? I think that given the space and money, Universal(or Disney) could create an amazing land or theme park off of it. The Middle Earth stories are amazing and incredibly detailed in a way that engages the reader unlike any other book. The world is so intricate that an entire theme park could be filled with 100s of unique adventures. As for the fan base, it's massive and the stories have stood the test of time. However, the Jaws space is too small, and Harry Potter is a better choice in that space.

Lord of the Rings is like Avatar, it has this cult following of 16-30 year old males. It would be hard to get women and children excited about a movie themed area based on LOTR.

I watched them all, but I have never gone back to watch them a second time. There are not a lot of choices when it comes to movie based rides and themed areas that would appeal to men, women, and children of all ages.

Potter was the perfect choice, which is why you will see them expanding for years to come.

One more thing I want to add. Do you guys know if the entire Amity area (stores, carnival games, ect.) is being closed?

LOTR fanboy here, love the books and the movies. But, as much as it pains me, it would be a horrible theme park attraction, especially if you have limited room. It just would not work. It's like Game of Thrones, great books that just would never work in theme parks.

As for Amity, it is all gone (or soon will be). There were rumors of them moving the games to the area near The Simpsons, but I don't think that has been confirmed yet.

Welcome Steve.
I thought that the new Harry Potter extension was already a done deal.
It wouldn't be my choice. My views on having too much of one franchise is well documented but I've seen some of the proposals for an interconnecting train between IOA and the Studios here on TPI.
Perhaps they were just ideas being kicked around but I have a nasty feeling that it's Harrer Potty.
If it isn't set in goblets of stone ( pardon me ) then I'd be up for a Back to the Future return ( Hellooooo )

Since LOTR is clearly a "no go" for all of you guys, what would you like to see? (Realistically)

Those would be the worst possible attractions.

South Park is GOD AWFUL and I do respect Nintendo, but no thank you.

South Park would be worse than LOTR. Seriously. There is nothing 'theme park'-like about that entire property. At least I can come up with something that would be remotely fun with LOTR (like a Moria ride), but South Park is basically built on vulgarity and keeping 100% current with everything. That does not translate to a family theme park at all.

^^^Sure it does. Just ask Jeff.

This was my idea:
Have Transformers: The Ride 3d replace Jaws, build a new Ride combining King Kong 360 3d with Kongfrontation to replace fear factor live, and add MIB: Alien Attack & The Simpsons Ride into the area!

- The HP expansion can replace the lost continent.
