Hershey Park ResortsHersheypark: HP Resorts worth the price?
From Don Wacome
From Don Wacome: Hello, planning a road trip to Hershey Park this Summer. Appears to be very expensive. Same price for a week as flying to and staying in Orlando. Is it worth spending the Big $ to stay at HP hotels? Are there suggestions for other near by hotels? Thank you. Posted March 27, 2012 at 6:53 PM

Hersheypark isn't as good as Orlando by a long shot. Which HP hotel are you staying in?Posted March 28, 2012 at 12:37 PM

Hershey Park is good but not nearly on a par with the Orlando Parks. It has really good coasters but some areas of the park are very old and show it. It's really more of a large amusement park that has had a lot of expansions in the last twenty years than a theme park. Therefore, its design is haphazard & confusing. But it does have a few high quality shows & decent gardens & a small zoo. The park food, though, is not very good. Hotels in the area are way overpriced for what they offer. This is a big vacation destination, along with the nearby Amish country, with the people from the northeast, so expect large crowds in the summer, and overpriced hotels. If you do go to Hershey, make sure you catch the nearby Pennsylvania Renaissance Festival. It's reputation is one of the best. Posted March 28, 2012 at 7:01 AM

I love Hershey..one of my favorites. It CAN be a day trip, but I did stay over several times. There's plenty of decent mom and pop motels in the neighborhood if you're not looking for luxury and high prices. I don't know if the Hershey-affiliated lodgings offer discount park admissions, but that may help offset the cost of the accommodations. On the flip side, the one time I DID stay on property, shuttles were provided to the park gate, negating the need to spend on parking. The mom and pop places won't offer that perk.Posted March 28, 2012 at 9:14 AM

If it's not too crowded, Hershey can be done in a day pretty comfortably. I stayed at the Hotel Hershey, which gives you some extra park benefits...in addition to being a fantastic place to stay. Posted March 29, 2012 at 6:01 AM These comparisons to Orlando and Disney crack me up. It's apples and oranges, except for the price. Hershey is a fantastic amusement park, and it doesn't cost you a liver to go. The hotel I mentioned above is as good as the Disney ones.

We went to HP last summer and stayed at a Country Inn & Suites in Harrisburg (at Union Deposit Road) which was about 10-15 minutes away from HP. It was a very nice, clean, comfortable hotel (with hot breakfast!) for almost half the price of the "on-site" hotels or ones in Hershey itself. It is NOT WDW or Universal but my kids loved it and we are going back in June for a long weekend. Posted April 1, 2012 at 6:06 AM
