Universal Orlando yesterday unveiled video giving us a first look at the new night time show "Universal's Cinematic Spectacular: 100 Years of Movie Memories". The video features interviews by Steven Spielberg and Universal's Jim Timon (Senior VP of Entertainment).

The new lagoon show will kick off at Universal Studios Florida on May 8th.

Any news on test runs? My AP expires a week before the show starts and I'm probably not renewing until the fall.

Universal is one clever bunch. They know they can't compete in terms of sheer size with something like Worlds of Color, so what do they do? Get Morgan Freeman as narrator to even the playing field. Playing hardball now... ;)

Seriously though, looks like a great improvement from the first show that took place at the Lagoon.

I mentioned this on another post before this post came out...One of the pictures from another site looks like what may be a shark fin in the lagoon. Perhaps a Jaw's music segment with the shark in the water plus the great white on the wharf. That would be a great chill factor. Hope there's something to it. I will be on vacation at the Portofino on the 8th and can't wait to see the show debut. The water screens look amazing and have more clarity, almost like a movie screen, then the murky mist scenes we're used to seeing.

Anyone see the show tonight? I saw the soft opening announcement too late on Facebook. Reviews seem to be positive from the lucky guests that saw it.

I was able to catch this last night, and it was pretty fantastic. There were very few noticeable technical glitches (saw it by the simpsons ride screen, which it seemed the projector gave out once), but overall a pretty damn smooth first technical rehearsal.

I know it was a rehearsal, but the show was meh. But then again, I can't help comparing it to World of Color. Both water based shows to show a compilation of film clips. I have to wonder why Universal added so few fountain, or so little pyrotechnics, because what is there does little to compliment the score, narration and screens. And the screens weren't as cool as I thought they would be.

I dont know why this show is being compared to world of colour, as for the average tourist in Orlando its going to be 100 years of Universal V Fantasmic and I would prefer to watch this then Fantasmic with its irritating pre show which does noting but make me cringe !!!!Also I would point out that this show will surely be repalced by something else with the launch of the Harry Potter phase two so its not in place forever as world of colour will be !!!

I just watched the soft opening video on Screamscape. Great show. I can't wait to see it full scale live on May 8th. It's like the best part of the Academy Award presentations when they run the all time classic film clips with stirring music. Only this is much better with the water screens, fountains, fireworks and Morgan Freeman. This new gen water screen is fantastic. It has the clarity of a real movie screen. The show is really put together well. It tells a story, and the theme, 100 years of Universal movies, is just perfect for this park. This does not appear to be an attempted copy of World of Color or The Bellagio. It's basically a tribute to the Universal films. The color show, fireworks, and fountains are supporting cast.
