TPA 4: Challenge 5

Challenge 5: Live or 3-D show based on environmental movie

From Tim W

Here is your chance to be a director! Your challenge is to create a show, either a live stage show or 3-D movie, based on a movie with some type of environmental message. You may NOT use Avatar, as that has already been claimed by Disney for Animal Kingdom, but any other movie from any era may be used, and you may place the show at any park including Animal Kingdom.

You must specify where in the park it will be located, what kind of theater will be used (outdoor arena, indoor movie theater, covered amphitheater, etc.), the size of the theater, and the approximate length of the show.

Do not give a complete script, but you should give a description of the story line and how it relates to the environmental theme. It must be both entertaining and educational. You may mix live action and film.

The Deadline for posting is July 7th at midnight, website time.

Since Tim and James are both at work, they wanted me to post the final results for the vote. Since we have no idea how much longer it is going to stay open and we need to move on with the next week, I am going to end it now.

It looks like the voters on the website had the same problem that the judges had and couldn't definitively decide one way or another on the vote.

According to the screenshot, we have a tie. Since we never really planned for this....we are going to call it a wash and no one is eliminated this week.

Soon guests will be able to tag along with WALL-E and EVE on a stellar 4-D adventure to help guests discover the true importance of recycling!

327eb749

This upcoming 4-D show will combine an amazing experience for the whole family to learn the importance of recycling and how we need to become much more responsible for our planet. Sponsored by WM (Waste Management), this attraction will help spread their ideas on recycling and disposing of trash in a sensible manner to the younger generation in a fun experience with WALL-E and EVE from the beloved Pixar film.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

WALL-E's Galactic Adventure will be a 4-D film, which requires special 3-D glasses that can be acquired before the show starts and returned after the show ends. The entire show will be a duration of 11 minutes. The theater will have 3 sections of seats, one in the middle, left and right. Each row will have 10 seats and there will be 5 rows in each section. Special seats for those who don't want to experience the seats random motions will be located in the center row of the middle section. The theater will feature different effects such as wind and water effects to immerse guests into WALL-E and EVE's quest. Guests with heart problems and those frightened by darkness and loud noises and guests easily prone to motion sickness due to the 3-D movie aspect will not be advised to ride.

EXTERIOR AND QUEUE

No longer will guests see Stitch hanging over the paths of Tomorrowland, but instead guests will see WALL-E waving at guests to join him on his adventure to clean up the planet. Instead of the words "Stitch's Great Escape", "WALL-E's Galactic Adventure" will take it's place. Guests will be directed into a small "back and forth" outdoor queue before turning inside. Once inside, guests will be in a dilapidated red hallway that is dimly lit with old posters of "the perfect future" lining the walls. Audio playing over the guests will be an old recording of the president talking about how they are all leaving the Earth for a never-ending vacation in space and the robots will be left to clean up the mess. At the end of the hallway, guests will turn left and immediately be given the impression that they are outside. Tall cubes of trash will surround the guests as they do the "back and forth" queue again. The ceiling will be a moving image projection of smoggy clouds. The walls will not be visible as the guests are surrounded by the cubes of trash generated by WALL-E. However, the most impressive part of this section of the queue is the animatronics of WALL-E and EVE standing side by side (similar to Mr. Potato Head from Toy Story Midway Mania). The two animatronics will interact with each other and the guests alike saying each other's names and waving at the guests. Once the guests pass WALL-E and EVE, they will be directed into the pre-show room.

PRE-SHOW

Themed to a larger version of WALL-E's house, guests will be grouped together and wait for the pre-show to begin as "Hello, Dolly!" plays at the far end of the pre-show room on WALL-E's television. Guests will be able to look around at things from the movie on WALL-E's shelves and other memorabilia. Suddenly, the TV will cut off and an old recording from the president will begin playing over the guests. The recording will describe the process of wearing and taking care of the glasses and disposing of them properly. He will once again alert riders of Earth's garbage problem before sending them on their way. Two doors on the left and two on the right will open and cast members will direct riders to the bin to receive their glasses and then to their designated rows.

INTRODUCTION

Once all guests are seated, the show will begin. The lights dim and the show begins. The Earth appears from a space stand-point and the Captain's voice starts playing over us. He tells us that we are reckless with what do with garbage and we need to take much better care of our planet before this could really happen. Soon we blast towards the Earth. We zoom through the trash-filled atmosphere and towards a major city where we find WALL-E.

MAIN SHOW

We slowly zoom in on him and we find him playing with the old garbage that is taking over the planet. He finds a Hawaiian hula-dancer and puts it inside him to take back to his house. Suddenly, EVE bursts through the garbage and the rider's seats tremble. WALL-E flies backwards into more garbage. EVE begins searching for the plant, but can't find any life whatsoever. WALL-E slowly gets up and moves over to the determined EVE. He hands her an old juice box to see if she likes it but she squeezes it to hard and mist is sprayed at the riders. WALL-E snatches the juice box and throws it. He hands her an old birthday balloon. She plays with it happily and giggles but soon pops it and air is blasted at the riders. WALL-E grabs her hand and pulls her away from the balloon remnants. WALL-E stumbles upon an old recycle bin. He looks at quizzically and EVE appears over his shoulder with the juice box again. She gently pushes WALL-E aside and places the juice box into the recycle bin. WALL-E and EVE light up with joy and begin to search for more things to put in the recycle bin. WALL-E holds up a small stuffed Mickey Mouse and goes to put it in but EVE stops him. She shakes her head and points to a pile of objects. Each object is aluminum, plastic, paper or cardboard. WALL-E picks one up on each kind and places them in the recycle bin. EVE lights up and grabs WALL-E's hand, and they blast off into space. After passing through all the garbage orbiting the planet WALL-E and EVE spin together, holding each other's hands and laughing. However, they stop laughing and look back at the garbage ravaged planet and the camera pans out from them and the Captain begins talking again. He tells the guests that we can help prevent this from happening and we are capable of recycling and how important it is to our plant. The lights come back on and cast members direct riders to the exit doors where they can place their glasses back into the bins.

EXIT

Guests exit through a large, straight, and white hallway themed to the hallways of the Axiom. Screens around guests tell riders once again the importance of recycling and proper trash disposal. Cast members direct riders towards the exit where one large final screen above the exit shows WALL-E and EVE waving goodbye in a new clean and natural environment thanks to your recycling! Guests will emerge into Tomorrowland once again and continue their day at the Magic Kingdom.

It's no secret that Terminator 2: 3D at Universal Studios Hollywood will be departing after the coming summer. However, it's replacement is not what most people would expect. Instead of a copy of the Despicable Me attraction opening this month in Florida, Universal Studios Hollywood will be receiving a unique 4-D attraction based on a 2012 movie as a replacement.

The Lorax 4-D: Return of the Once-lers

Exterior: The exterior of the attraction resembles the town of Thneedville. Visitors approaching the attraction see banners advertising a special event celebrating the 10th anniversary of O'Hare's expulsion. The queue winds through the colorful town, approaching the large city hall building. In addition to all the plastic foliage from the movie, a few Truffula trees are growing in the town. Just before guests ascend steps to the city hall, they pick up a pair of 3-D glasses.

Pre-Show: The pre-show takes place in the large atrium of the city hall. To the right as guests enter is a row of doors with a couple large television screens above them. Once the room is full, the entrance doors are closed and an employee dressed as a member of the Thneedville city council welcomes the visitors to the city and tells them they are going to see a special presentation created by Thneedville's new mayor, Ted Wiggins. Unfortunately, he is unable to attend personally due to his busy schedule, but he does have time for a brief video message. The lights dim and the pre-show video plays.

Pre-Show Video: The pre-show video is approximately 5 minutes. It begins with Ted standing in the partially recovered Truffula forest. He talks about the trees, but then mentions that it wasn't always this way and gives a brief recount of the story of the movie, accompanied with remote flashbacks. After ending on an optimistic note for the future, the sound of an axe is heard. Ted grabs the camera and walks with it to the top of a nearby hill. Below, a number of people have arrived and have begun logging the trees, dragging them off somewhere. Ted gets out of sight before calling Audrey. He begins giving her directions, but before finishing he pauses, remembering the camera is on. He turns to the guests, tells them that unfortunately the presentation will have to be cancelled and to follow directions of the city hall staff, then shuts off the camera.

The lights come back on and an announcement instructs guests to proceed into the auditorium, where a council member will be present to give further directions. The doors to the main auditorium then open.

Auditorium: The main show takes place in a large auditorium that holds around 600 guests. The theater is equipped with 4-D effects including light, scent and smoke elements. In addition, moving seats similar to those used on the Shrek 4-D attraction are used here. Stationary seats are available for guests who do not or cannot use the moving ones, and are specially marked. As guests enter, the council member instructs visitors to move all the way to the end of their chosen row and make room for everyone. They also announce that although the scheduled presentation has been cancelled, they will be shown an alternate one. Once guests are seated and the doors are closed, the council member asks guests to silence any cell phones, put away video and recording devices, and put on their glasses. The lights dim and the show starts.

Main Show: The main show is roughly 20 minutes and is split into seven scenes. It features Ted, Audrey, the Lorax, the Once-ler, and O'Hare. Cameo appearances by the Once-ler's relatives (actually descendants of the original ones depcited in the movie) and the animals in the forest (all appearing randomly in various scenes where appropriate) occur as well.

Scene 1: The story begins with Audrey receiving Ted's phone call. He tells her that he spotted some loggers in the forest, and he thinks they may be related to O'Hare in some way. Audrey tells him to go to the Once-ler's house and see if he is aware of these happenings. Ted hangs up the phone, then mounts his motorcycle and rides off.

Scene 2: Ted arrives at the Once-ler's house, and finds that the Once-ler is reluctant to admit him. However, after some persuasion, the Once-ler lets him inside. The two have a conversation, where Ted learns that some of the Once-ler's relatives (descendants of the ones that worked with him before) have built a new factory and restarted the Thneed business. Despite his protests, they refuse to stop, and have been slowly depleting the regenerating forest. Ted asks for the Once-ler's help, but he declines, stating that he has corrected what he did and it isn't his problem anymore.

Scene 3: As Ted leaves the Once-ler's house, he looks up at the trees, as if remembering what it used to be instead. A pleasant, fruity scent fills the auditorium during this scene. As Ted returns to his motorcycle, the Lorax appears to him. Ted acts surprised, having never seen the Lorax before, but as soon as he learns who it is he insists upon the Lorax's help. The Lorax agrees, stating that is why he came in the first place. He informs Ted that the loggers are indeed the Once-ler's relatives and that they are taking the trees to a remote factory. He also states that if they don't stop immediately, the forest will die. Ted calls Audrey and tells her to meet him at the logging site, then gets on his motorcycle with the Lorax and rides back.

Scene 4: Ted and Audrey both arrive at the logging site where the last of the loggers are departing for the day. After Audrey is introduced to the Lorax, they decide to follow the trucks to find the factory. This is the main motion sequence of the film, as the seats rock slightly to simulate the rough motorcycle ride as Ted and Audrey chase a truck carrying Truffula trees. As they travel, the landscape gets more and more desolate.

Scene 5: Smoke begins to fill the room and there is a mild sulfur scent as Ted, Audrey, and the Lorax arrive at the Thneed factory, located in the middle of a wasteland. The large building spews pollution into the air and into the nearby river. The three sneak into the factory and attempt to evade the Once-ler's relatives, but eventually they are caught.

Scene 6: The three intruders are taken to the boss's office, where it is revealed that the factory is being run by O'Hare, the former mayor of Thneedville. Realizing that his former venture was no longer profitable, O'Hare waited until the forest had recovered, then enlisted the help of the Once-ler's relatives to restart the Thneed business. The Lorax then lectures him, telling him that he is not much different than the Once-ler once was, and will very soon learn the same lesson...if the resource can't be replenished, it won't last forever, and eventually all that will remain is the damage that was caused. The Lorax asks O'Hare how he plans to maintain the forest, and O'Hare reveals that he doesn't. Upon hearing this, several of the Once-ler's relatives burst into the room, demanding to know why O'Hare lied to them and promised he would not harm the forest (they heard the whole thing as Audrey inconspicuously activated the loudspeaker system). O'Hare is forced to leave, and the Once-ler's relatives promise that they will continue the business only in a sustainable manner.

Scene 7: The fruity scent fills the auditorium again as Ted, Audrey, and the Lorax return toward Thneedville. A short distance away from the city, they stop. The Lorax thanks them for their help, and reminds them that if anyone attempts to hurt the trees or the animals that depend on them, he will return again as their spokesperson. He then departs, and Ted and Audrey return to Thneedville together.

Exit: Guests exit the auditorium into a hallway, where bins are located to collect the 3-D glasses. They then exit the building through the gift shop selling not only Lorax merchandise but other Dr. Seuss merchandise as well.

I have to rethink my idea. While there are environmental episodes of Phineas and Ferb, it isn't a movie, nor will the 2013 film have anything to do with nature.

(Contestants note: Since theres an opportunity to play with any park, I decided to play with one I know. The park has some unique challenges that have to be addressed so I've put in a bit more detail about the Park, its relationship with nearby parks, and the other problem it faces because I can't expect any of you to have visited it before or know too much about it.).

A IMAX3D Movie premiering at Sea World Australia.

Why Captain Planet?
Many cartoon series from the late 80’s and early 90’s are returning to our screens  (Transformers and My Little Pony to name but 2), and Captain Planet is ripe for being a part of this trend.  Fans of the original series are now in the 25-40 age bracket, they want to recapture parts of their childhood – including watching treasured TV series and buying the toys they had and the toys they whish they had from the era - and now have money to do so.

Additionally, there are plans for a Captain Planet Movie which this can act as a perfect Tie-In for.

Sea World’s parent company, Warner Village Roadshow already has links with Captain Planet license holder (Warner Bros Entertainment) through its operation of the nearby “Warner Bros Movie World”.  Captain Planet would be an unlikely fit for Movie World due to the heavy DC Superhero presence (Similarly with the other Parks associated with Warner Bros such as Six Flags), allowing Sea World, with is environmental message, to act as a trojan horse/test bed for Warner Bros to test other licensing options for theme parks that they currently have no affiliations with.

Captain Planet of course, is the quintessential environmental ambassador, and superhero.

Location:

Given Sea-World’s location, and limited outward development opportunities, replacing an existing attraction is a given.  The focus has to be on replacing experiences and attractions that are no longer core to the “Sea World” experience. When Sea World started, the other Warner Village Roadshow parks nearby did not exist, and both Sea World, and its only nearby competition (Dreamworld) developed all-on-one parks, including inclusive watermarks. Since then Warner Village Roadshow has opened another nearby theme Park (the afore mentioned movie world) and a watermark (Wet n Wild). Dreamworld has answered this competition by closing its inclusive waterpark, and instead opening up a dedicated second-gate waterpark adjacent. This redevelopment works in a similar vein.

During recent years, Sea World has been gradually winding down its former inclusive seasonal “Water Park” section, particularly in light of the continued development of Wet and Wild - many Sea World visitors purchase a multi-park-pass which covers all 3 Warner Village Roadshow parks.

This transition peaked in 2010 when fully half of the waterpark area closed permanently, to be replaced with “Castaway Bay”; the remainder separated from the park, becoming an amenity to guests of the on site hotel/resort.  This development replaces the rump water park and brings the area back into the park proper.

Here you can see the section highlighted for development of the HEART precinct, which would encompass this direction (and for reference, the former extent of the water park area). The nearby monorail station could also be rethemeed to belong to the new precinct.

Photobucket

(The Google Maps Satellite image shows the whole extent of the former water park).

Existing Similar Attractions

Sea World already encompasses an ageing 3D theatre, however it is not IMAX quality and due to its age is likely limited in what (if any) 4D effects can be used.  The new facility could serve as a supplement this, or allow expansion/replacement of the nearby SBNO “Bermuda Triangle” river ride and operating "Viking log flume".

Building (HEART Institute) and its precinct:

The immediate area around the HEART institute is themed as if it is placed in a Sea World of 2050. Its a mini-eco-tomorrowland, and encompasses the Mid park monorail station, up to the castaway bay area. The station has an opportunity to be rethemed as the "Heart Institute station", showing off eco-transport technologies.

Surrounding the HEART institute building are a number of small exhibits celebrating real (but extremely new) technologies that are very ecologically friendly, with explanations cards from “The HEART Institute, in conjunction with Sea World” explaining what the device is, and why its important, including their practical use and ecological value.

The HEART Institute is dedicated to the preservation of the historical record of Mankind's’ change from an industrial to an ecological society (1950’s to 2025); it chronicles the choices that were made to help direct policymakers not to repeat yesterdays' mistakes but instead continue making good choices for the planet and its people.

It is a round building, with shiny metal on the outside, and a dome that seems to resemble the "orb" emblem on the shirts the Planeteers wore in the series. It is implied, but not expressly stated that the institute is named for Ma-Ti, although theming of the facility indicates that Planeteers (old and new) were involved at many stages in the project – there is a dedication stone from a “Linka (surname), President of the Russian Federation 2020”, and the "Sponsors" plaque includes "Wheeler's Green Machines, Brooklyn New York and The Fairtrade Cooperative Society of Africa.

Photobucket

A sign outside the HEART institute advertises a presentation today on “The Second Rise of Captain Planet, and the return of the Planeteer movement”.  The supporting text indicates that this is one of the key events that changed the course of history to create the future that is presented to them.

The queue is in the foyer/reception area.  A large TV screen in the Foyer plays a loop from a TV News Network celebrating some recent ecologically friendly political and technological achievements– the tone is to make people believe in the queue that the future really is not just a utopia as we dream, but a green (and achievable) utopia. The TV network is a fictional one - this is a dream land that the guests have to choose to make real if they want it - using a fictions network is intended to highlight this.

The building has large murals in the foyer, and corridors to the theatre detailing major developments, such as the Kyoto meeting, some of which are true and historical, some of which are based in the near future.  The theatre itself continues to fit the near-future theme in styling and colour tones, and contains an IMAX grade screen and projector.

The Show
Running Time: about 30-40 mins (similar length to a double episode without ads)

The show is a 3D IMAX presentation. Glasses are provided to guests with an apology notice: "The archive footage that we'll be showing you today predates holographic technology, as such special glasses are required to watch this presentation. The HEART institute apologises for the inconvenience."

Opening: At the start of the show, an older gentleman (70s) walks to the front of the stage, and welcomes the guests to the HEART institute, he explains in short HEART’s goal in chronicling mankind’s change from an Industrialised economy, to an ecologically based economy.  Today’s show highlights a major change in (2016?) when Captain Planet and the Planeteers, dormant since the early 90’s returned to lead the way to a brighter tomorrow.  He moves, and the movie, a 3D cartoon with 4D effects, begins to play.

Scene 1 – Near future (2016-ish) Rio De Janeiro:
At the University of Rio De Janeiro, a student is discussing her upcoming thesis with her professor.  The student (Alicia) is confused as to why the environmental movement of the 1990’s seemed to fade away, and what happened to the most prominent of environmental activists – the Planeteers seemed to just disappear.

The Professor explains that the death of one of the Planeteers, Gi, make the remaining 4 reconsider their place with the Planeteers.  The political changes in Linka’s homeland were calling her home where she hoped to make a difference in the system; Wheeler and Kwame got into an argument over where “the line” was regarding acceptable actions - prompting Wheeler to go off in another, more radical direction. The Planeteers had effectively disbanded

The student presses the Professor about “Ma-Ti”, to which he only replies “After the loss of Gi, he just lost heart.”

Scene 2 – Rio Streets Montage.
No Dialogue in this section, but Louis Armstrong’s “what a wonderful world” plays.  The Professor walks the streets of Rio, all around newspaper headlines, newsticker stories and TV screens displaying cable news contain stories on worsening ecological problems, most allude to previous Captain Planet episodes, and in some the “Eco Villans” (particular Hoggish Greedly, Looten Plunder, and Dr Blight) can be seen talking about the event.  As the song draws to a close, we se the professor board a speedboat (with large, obvious solar panels) head out into the sea.

Scene 3 – The Island
The Professor lands on a small, deserted island.  Although much of it is idealic, there are some signs of former inhabitation (abandoned wooden shacks), and some large strangely placed crystals.  The professor enters one of the larger of these where a female figure, very obviously sick and perhaps dying, is lying on a bed.

Woman: Who (cough) who’s there?
Professor: Relax, its just me, I’m sorry I’ve left you for so long, abandoned you Gaia.
Gaia: Its (cough) okay, The others, are they with you?
Professor: No, its just me.  I, I didn’t realise things were quite this bad
Gaia: It is not too late.  The power, the power is still there, he will still come if called
Professor: It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to wear that, and the others have all long moved on.
Gaia: Then you must call them again, find new keepers for the rings if they cannot, Ma-Ti.
Gaia seemingly passes out at this point “Rest poor Gaia, I only wish I could, but I fear now it is now too late”
Gaia (In Ma-Ti/The Professor’s head): No, it is not too late.

Ma-Ti leaves Gaia’s room, and walks over to a wooden pier, where the remains of a Windsurf board can be seen tied to it, in colours that Gi would have worn.  Looking into the water, he sees a dolphin, struggling with its bottle-nose stuck in an o-ring (like those that are used to group cans of drink).  Ma-Ti jumps into the water, pats the dolphin to calm it, and cuts the ring, freeing the dolphin.  “is you Kisa isn’t it?” (Kisa was Gi’s pet dolphin).  The dolphin seems to nod in the affirmative, Ma-Ti relates the story of how Gi was lost at sea (In short, he was with Gi on a ship in a storm, GI was knocked overboard and hit her head preventing her from using her powers or even to swim; Ma-Ti froze did not attempt a rescue because the intensity of the storm)  to the dolphin as he removes bits of fishing line and other trash from around its fins; although he indicates that the other Planeteers did not hold him responsible for the death and believed had he attempted rescue he’d likely have died himself, Ma-Ti was never the same again and still continues to blame himself.

Kisa swims out to sea, but just before Ma-Ti is back on shore, Kisa calls to Ma-Ti, and as he turns, Kisa tosses a ring to Ma-Ti (the symbolism being three fold – This is how Gi originally got her ring, it shows that Kisa does not blame Ma-Ti, and tells Ma-Ti that Gi would have wanted this).

Note: The Choice to not show the storm as a flashback, and have Ma-Ti relate the story orally instead is in recognition that the audience may be quite young.  Although such a scene may offer great drama, getting them afraid of drowning, particularly at a water heavy park, isn’t a good idea.  For those too young, the Ma-Ti’s Soliloquy avoids the imagery and shouldn't burn in to their minds, for those in the later years of childhood, teens, or grown up it hopefully has a pair of side effects: showing more how Ma-Ti feels responsible for his (in)action through tears, and highlighting the effect of trash on wildlife in the oceans (Message 1). Ma-Ti has also shared the story of the death of his parents on the original show, so this acts as a "holllerback" to the original in more ways than one.

At this point, a monkey appears, very exited to see Ma-Ti, it gives him a salute “Sacchi!” the monkey gives him a bow, and excitedly leads him to what appear to be a pile of leaves, he starts removing them (and Ma-Ti joins in) revealing the Planeteer’s old Geocruiser. “Surely this thing can’t still work” says Ma-Ti, but a push of a button or two soon proves otherwise.

Scene 4– Moscow, Russia
The scene starts in the Red Square, where Alicia from scene 1 meets with Ma-Ti, and head into a nearby eatery.  Ma-Ti tells the student that she will have the opportunity to have her wish revealed, and will learn what became of the Planeteers.  They have come to Russia as Linka is the most public of the former Planeteers, a legislator in the Duma and strong advocate for young people to get involved in politics.

Before heading to a rally being held by Linka, Ma-Ti gives Alicia the water ring “Just three more to go” says Ma-Ti “Three?” Alicia Asks “I thought there were five” (but Ma-Ti does not respond to this).  In this scene, at an opportune moment there is a shot of both of Ma-Ti’s hands, he is not wearing the heart ring.  The Water ring glows as Alicia puts it on.

The pair head to the rally, where Linka is on stage, she mentions many ecological problems Russia is facing and encourages the crowd to get involved in the political process if they want to truly see action, phone and email their representatives, the more pressure they face, the easier time she will have getting the right changes through.  As the rally ends, she notices Ma-Ti and after a quick reunion head to Linka’s office.  As they pass through, two staffers notice Ma-ti.  One (a female) says allowed “Surely that can’t be… Ma-Ti?”, whilst another (the receptionist) puts their head down and starts typing an email the camera shows the email is addressed to “Mal”, with the content “Guess who I just saw…”;

Ma-Ti details to Linka the poor state that Gaia is in, and implores Linka to rejoin the battle.  Linka feels unable to abandon those she represents, who she says are counting on her to try and bring real political change not just in Russia, but throughout the world through the diplomatic process.  There are pictures in Linka’s office of her meeting with prominent world leaders and environmentalists.  “But the ring, the ring belongs to the Planet, perhaps it is time for it to find another” she takes the Wind ring (in a box) from her top drawer.  “Go Ma-Ti.  Another needs this more.”

This section emphasises message 2/Linka’s message: Get Involved.

Scene 5: Blight Labs
Photobucket
Dr Blight is working on some contraption or another “ooooh Doctor Blight, you’re not going to believe this…”.  Mal shows CCTV footage of Ma-Ti in Linka’s office, with close ups of Linka’s and Alicia’s ring. “That brat must be trying to reform the planeteers.  (She takes a ring of her own out of storage) “Isn’t it strange Mal, that our Polution rings stopped working right after the Planet-Pests called it a day, well, all except Nukey’s, I wonder if the Planeteers reform if our rings will will start to work again… No matter, better to nip this in the bud.  Mal, do we have any friends in Russia at the moment?” “Why Yes… Verminous Skumm is in Moscow as we speak… I have him on Line 3”.

Scene 6: Moscow (Cont Scene 4)
Ma-Ti and Alicia are walking back to the Geocruiser when they are attacked by Verminous Skumm.  In the Skuffle, he is able to make off with the wind ring.  It seems like he’s going to get away when he’s tackled by the staffer (not the receptionist) from Linka’s office.  He goes to return the ring to Ma-Ti, but Ma-Ti refuses, saying “No, I think the ring has chosen you” (it seems to glow as it gets nearer him”.  He introduces himself at this point as Mikhal.  Alicia asks “So, Wheeler and Kwame to go.  Any idea where they are?” “Well, (Proper honorific for State Duma Representive) still gets letters from him from time to time and presents an opened Envelope with a returns address, in New York City.

Scene 7: New York City
Ma-Ti, Alicia and Mikhal arrive at the address to find the buildings landlord removing Wheeler’s property, with wheeler's cousin, Keysha trying to talk him into giving them more time.  When asked she reveals that Wheeler has fallen in with an extremist group and has become a "good for nothing". Keysha takes the lead in tracking down Wheeler (and seems quite adept at it). Wheeler is using his ring in an act of eco-terrorism. Although Ma-Ti and Wheeler's reunion starts as a happy one, the mood soon turns sour with Wheeler trying to encourage Ma-Ti into his cause, and Ma-Ti trying to convince Wheeler his way is wrong, and doing more harm than good. Eventually in the Disagreement Wheeler turns his back on Ma-Ti and leaves, but Ma-Ti faces down his internal demons and reaches into his pocket, pulling out the heart ring… For the first time in decades, Ma-Ti finds it in himself to wear, and use the ring, showing Wheeler the result of his actions, and how extremists acts hurt the cause more. Wheeler gives the ring to Ma-Ti, completely despondent, fearing that it is too late to undo the damage he's done. Echoing Gaia's advice to him, Ma-Ti replies "no, it is never too late", Ma-Ti in turns hands the ring to Keysha, saying that the Planeteers have always needed someone with Street Smarts, and she seems perfect for the job. They return to the Geocruiser

Scene 8: Blight Labs.
Its revealed that Blight, Mal, Looten Plunder, Sly Sludge, and Verminous Skumm have been watching their progress. Blight fetches the pollution rings from safe storage "That explains why Nukey's Radiation ring never stopped working, the wheeler brat never stopped using his - the powers of our rings must be tied to theirs... , Where is Nukem anyway?" Mal comes with the answer quickly "He's enjoying a beach vacation in Japan". They quickly test their powers noting only that Looten's deforestation ring isn't working… Its decided that the villains will attempt to stop Ma-Ti's recruitment methods by ambushing him when he goes for the Earth ring.

Scene 9: Africa, Savanah
The quest to find Kwame is easy. The geocruiser lands near a farm where Kwame, and a teen can be seen working away by hand. This time, the reunion doesn't go south and Kwame takes the time to lead the planteers around his work. He's built a sustainable, organic farm that doesn't use pesticides or chemicals, or anything artificial, and he helps nearby farmers do the same - working in harmony with nature rather than against it. The Teen is revealed to be Kwame's son, Kofi. Ma-Ti comments that Kwame isn't using his ring, surely it could have been an enormous help, but it didn't seem right to continue using it.

(This is to emphasise Kwame's message/message 3 - Buy Sustainable)

Before things can progress much further, the ecovillans spring their trap. Kofi seems to run saying he'll be back with help, and a battle takes place, with the eco-villans on the winning side. Just as it seems to be to late, there is a cry of "Earth" and a tremor puts the Eco-villans on the back foot… Looten realises this means his (deforestation) ring is now in play and begins to summon… Captain Pollution.
Photobucket

The "New" Planeteers do the same, summoning captain Planet. The two captains battle, with Kwame's with nature not against it farming methods giving "Planet" the upper hand - theres little for Pollution to exploit in Kwame's sustainable farm, weakening his powers. Seeing the opportunity to run, the Eco Villans do.

After the battle, Kofi decides to join the Planeteers, and Kwame asks Ma-Ti to look out for Kofi, to which Ma-Ti Replies "If I can be half a good as mentor to him, as you were to me, he's in safe hands". Fade out.

Finale:
Before the lights have a chance to come on the professor calls out "I'll be taking questions in just a moment, but just a reminder of what we feel are the most important messages from this story".

Much like the TV series, the show ends with a number (specifically 4) of “Planeteer Alerts”, with one of the suriving older Planeteers’ taking the lead (except in the first one, which is lead by Alicia), these emphasise the message that they try and tell in their scenes.  These act much like a conclusion in an essay, to highlight and reinforce the messages in the main body.

Planeteer Alert 1: Alicia asks What happens to litter? Captain Planet shows her: It washes down in the rain into rivers, lakes and oceans where it becomes a hazard to the creatures that live in it, and ruins beaches for everyone.  Is this the beach you want to swim in? The power is yours.

Planeteer Alert 2: Get Involved.  Linka and Wheeler explain that one of the best ways to bring change is to get involved in the political process – Email and call your representatives encouraging them to vote in favour of eco-friendly legislation, join political parties and lobby groups to help highlight real change, and if/when you’re old enough, vote.  They do indicate that there is a right way, and a wrong way, and working in the system is the right way (as a counterpoint to Wheeler’s poor choices in the main show).  The big changes require changes at the top, but as always the power is yours.

Planeteer Alert 3: Buy Sustainable.  Kwame talks about the value of Fair Trade and organic farming.  Growing products in tune with the land rather than against it.  Growing the wrong things requires more resources which causes more pollution, and non natural pesticides can harm native wildlife, and clear fall logging removes the forest for good.  When in the store doing your shopping you can either choose green, or choose mean – the power is yours.

Planeteer Alert 4: Don’t lose hope.  Ma-Ti gives a final rallying call, he acknowledges that things look bad, with confusion over what is right and wrong for the planet growing, and global action stalling – but losing hope means losing the battle.  Any road worth walking down is a hard road to walk.  Give in, or go for the win?  The power is yours.

As the alerts fade, the Professor returns to the front.  He answers a few questions (there are CM’s planted in the audience to provide questions if none of the guests have any, although a CM always asks the last question:
“Will Captain Planet rise again”
To which the professor answers “If there is a need, but it is my hope that there never is”.

People who look at the professor at this point may notice his ring, and may notice he looks like an older version of the professor in the cartoon. It is implied, but never specifically stated, that he is Ma-Ti. After he leaves, the house lights come up with the Captain Planet theme playing.

The exit to the attraction is through retail (of course…) with numerous items available for purchase, including Captain Planet Plushes, planeteer shirts, and a unique high-ticket item: recreations of the 5 planeteer rings - ability to control the elements not included.

Legacy Use:
As the facility at its core is an IMAX cinema. With retiming this structure could be "Reused" to display any given production that can be adapted for IMAX screens. A nearby competing park (Dreamworld) abandoned this technology recently giving Sea World a further USP among its park neighbours. Additionally there is no reason why the film could not be "Recycled" for use in other parks.

Effects/Media choice
This presentation is in 3D on an IMAX screen to push the near futureness of the film shown. Dispite the occasional re-entry of 3D in the home and cinema space after a few years it usually falls back to a "theme park only" technology as the higher production costs and user dissatisfaction with glasses pushes it back out to a niche.

The net effect of this makes 3D a futuristic seeming technology, even though it has existed for decades.

There are no 4D effects in the film as it is presented as archive footage; but the facility should be built with future presentations in mind, either including the technology to present these effects, or allowing an easy retrofit.

ALWAYS LET YOUR CONSCIENCE BE YOUR GUIDE

Situated in Walt Disney World’s EPCOT, replacing the old 3D cinema, here is a 4D show, introduced to you by Bradley Cooper and Jiminy Cricket.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Disney has long been a supporter of environmental issues and Jiminy Cricket has been at the fore of that with the Jiminy Cricket Enviromentality Awards. However, this time he and Bradley Cooper have come together to show us the truth about some of the environmental issues that may affect our planets health.

The show replaces the old Captain EO show and allows the existing building to remain pretty much intact. Jiminy will be in 3D the whole time as well as some of the shows other aspects. The shows queue area will not need to be themed but a new paint job won’t go amiss.

The show itself starts with Jiminy flying about looking for Bradley. We can hear Bradley but so far we can’t see him. A door opens and casts a shaft of light; we see the planet earth, floating in 3D. Bradley comes through the door, closes it but has a flashlight that lights up the planet, much like the sun would do. Jiminy is flying around it.

“Say Bradley, this looks swell but what does it have to do with Public health?”

Photobucket

“Well Jiminy, it’s like this. Environmental issues are huge. Massive. They affect everyone on the planet, but sometimes, that can mean we ignore them; we think someone else will deal with it, and that we can’t make a difference. So, today we are going to look at some of those things that affect each and every one of us on a daily basis and maybe, we can stop thinking we can’t do anything”

The light goes off, and suddenly air is blowing through the theatre, a cool breeze. The screen starts to brighten up and we see a huge solar farm. Bradley is walking between the giant panels and Jiminy is flying about. They discuss the benefits of solar power, how technically it is the only power source we can access that will wont diminish for millions of years.

JC: “Again, this is fascinating, but how can you or I have a giant solar farm in our yard?”

BC: “You don’t need a farm Jiminy, anyone of us can install a solar panel on the roof of our house or garage. Not only will it provide power, if every home in America had just one solar panel, we could cut the use of coal by 50%. That’s a huge saving and much better on the environment. Come one, we only just getting started”

Photobucket

Using his torch again, Bradley turns the screen off. Quietly at first then louder we hear cows mooing. The torch turns the screen back on and we are in a field, surrounded by a herd of cows.

JC: “So we can use solar powered cows?”

BC: “Not quite. Cows are one of, if not the biggest producers of gasses in nature. Gas which can damage our environment. Now, I am not suggesting that we stop eating meat, although some people have chosen to do that, it’s just when people list things that damage the planet, cows don’t usually make the list, but they should.”

Jiminy and Bradley have a chat about the pros and cons of cow poo that really goes nowhere but does allow for the odd fart joke that kids and culminates in Jiminy letting a loud one go, some smoke ripples through the theatre and a slightly odd smell as well. Nothing too nasty but enough to let the audience know.

Bradley clicks the torch and we plunge into darkness. Jiminy can still be seen flying about, he asks where they are going next.

BC: "Jiminy, you ever hear of a rain forest?"

The torch clicks and Bradley and Jiminy are in a dense rain forest. Bradley is wearing safari gear and Jimini jokes about it for a while before they start talking about wild animals which ends abruptly when Jiminy reminds Bradley he was almost eaten by a whale!

BC: "You know, once, Rain forests covered almost 20% of the world, now they cover just 5% and at the rate they are being destroyed, there may be no rain forest left in 40 years."

JC: "Thats just terrible, but its just trees, cant we plant more?"

BC: "Its not just trees, the amazon for example, produces 20% of the worlds oxygen on its own! Not to mention the literally thousends of animals and plants that live there.

JC: "Wow. All that from just one forest?"

Photobucket

BC: "We dont know the exact number of different species of animals that live here, or the amount of trees, plants, fruits, nuts. By cutting these forests down we could be destroying the cure for cancer"

JC: "So they dont just make things wet then?"

BC: "Far from it. Speaking of wet...."

Moving on, Jiminy and Bradley find themselves on a boat, in the middle of the ocean. Bradley is lying down on the deck with a glass of water. Jiminy is flying about yelling for help. The Sun is beating down and finally Jiminy lands and asks if he can have a sip of the water.

BC: “Sure, but remember, that’s all we have until we leave the boat so go careful ok?”

JC: “All the water? Bradley, look out there, all that blue!”

BC: “OK, it’s all the drinking water we have. Our Global reserves of drinkable water are a fraction of 1%. 1 in 5 people don’t have access to drinking water and some have to walk up to 10 miles just to get a bucket of muddy water that tastes horrible.”

JC: “But why? The planet is more than 60% water, why don’t we just drink that? I mean can’t we clean the water?”

BC: “We can, and we do, Desalinization is an option but it’s expensive and not very efficient, but there are things we can do to help. Turning off the taps when brushing your teeth for example, or having a shower instead of a bath sometimes. You know, Water is the one thing we cannot grow more of. We can’t make more water. What we have is all there is.”

Bradley and Jiminy continue their chat about water until Jiminy gets it and Bradley clicks his torch again.
In the darkness Jiminy asks Bradley if he can have a go with the torch and after a while, Bradley allows him to have it. When Jiminy clicks it on we find ourselves looking down at Earth as seen in Wall-E.

Jiminy quips that now Bradley knows what he feels like, walking around the real world, so Jiminy decided to bring Bradley to his world, but it’s a world that may be closer to reality than we would like to think.

We see Wall-E doing his thing in the distance and Bradley looks at Jiminy with horror.

BC: “So, where is this? I don’t recognise it”

Photobucket

JC: “Bradley, I have been urging people to listen to their conscience longer than you have been alive and I think you already know where this is. It’s the when that’s causing you the trouble. The world has got used to a largely throwaway lifestyle. Potentially this could be the future one day. Thankfully, with things like recycling and more and more people growing their own vegetables and fruits mankind may just be able to avoid it. It’s worth thinking about though isn’t it?”

BC: “Sure is. Now, can I have my torch back please?”

Bradley and Jiminy find themselves once more looking at Earth from space and they recap the things they have seen and some of the things each and every one of us can do to help. Jiminy signs off for us.

“And remember; always let your conscience be your guide!”

To summarise, this is a 4D show featuring legendary Disney icon, Jiminy Cricket and popular actor, Bradley Cooper. The show stays true to the Disney theme of previous attractions such as The Universe of Energy or The Circle of Life situated in EPCOT.

As for the environmental messages, some of these are not new themes; in fact nearly all of them have been promoted by Disney before in rides. The Universe of Energy does a good job of promoting renewable energy and the Land talks about the positives of producing your own food, there are numerous other examples situated through Disney World and Disney Land but this attraction brings it all together and gives us a glimpse of what we can do on a daily basis to combat the environmental issues that plague our planet.

Finding Nemo: Saving the Sea

In a brand new, original story from the Pixar minds, kids and adults alike can learn about how important the ocean is in "Finding Nemo: Saving the Sea"!

Located in a brand new theater in the "Rafiki's Planet Watch" land of Animal Kingdom, "Finding Nemo: Saving the Sea" is a 10 minute show written by the same Pixar executives who wrote the film (primarily director Andrew Stanton). The show also features the same voice actors from the movie, resulting in a 3D show that stays true to the movie's charm.

The queue of the beautiful blue building simulates guests being the size of the fish in the movie, with animatronics of memorable side characters from the film.

Pearl the octopus would pop up and down, "inking" quests as they walk by (which is only a clever smoke machine). Tad the fish would squirt guests with light sprays of water (being his normal obnoxious self...). Sheldon the seahorse would sneeze on guests, also spritzing them with water (after all, he is H2O intolerant!).

Screens attached to the walls would screen never before seen interviews with Pixar executives talking about the environment. These interviews would include John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Brad Bird, and Lee Unkrich, all acclaimed directors of Pixar films.

After walking the queue, guests are seated into the theater room. The seats are separated into sections on the left, in the center, and on the right. Each section seats 150 guests, for a grand capacity of 450 guests.

Once everyone is seated and their 3D glasses are on, the show begins.

The show begins with a soothing view of an underwater scene, as Thomas Newman's main title of "Finding Nemo" plays. The scene cuts to a small sea anemone, where guests hear familiar voices and laughter.

Before we know it, out come Marlin, Dory, and Nemo, the protagonists of the film. As they have a conversation with Dory, who can't keep a same subject for more than three seconds, the sea becomes dark, and the theater does as well. As the characters on screen panic, we learn there has been a large oil spill in the ocean.

Marlin and Dory explain (well, Dory TRIES to) that the oil is dangerous for the environment. They also tell Nemo how animals are often harmed during these spills. They decide that they need to get away from the oil as fast as they can.

The result is a huge "stampede" of fish as they all attempt to escape the massive oil spill.

After getting to a safe area, the three fish come across garbage scattered along the sea floor. Once again, young Nemo is clueless of the dangers of garbage, so Marlin and Dory once again explain the dangers of garbage in the water, primarily telling how animals may eat the garbage or strangle themselves in it.

Suddenly, the theater rumbles as a passing ship shakes the scene. As the large rotor pulls Nemo towards the spinning blades, Marlin and Dory pull him away to save his life. They explain how the blades of these ships injure animals every day.

As Nemo hears this terrible news, he asks how these harmful events can be avoided. Marlin and Dory take him up to the surface (only enough to peek their eyes out of the water; they're still partially submerged) to show him that the humans are cleaning the beaches and wiping oil off of several animals. Nemo is also shown a sign that prevents these large ships from entering certain areas without paying a fine. They then move Nemo back down to show an underwater vessel capping the oil pipe.

The three characters turn to the audience to say that these disasters can be avoided. They tell that all you have to do is put the trash in a trash can, not in the ocean. Oil spills can be avoided by drilling elsewhere, or even finding a new material that isn't dangerous to animal life.

The characters would send farewells to the guests as the show ends, a short message from Pixar and Disney is shown, and guests exit to continue their day at Animal Kingdom.

Coming soon to Universal Studios Florida (yes, we're back here 2 weeks in a row) is South Park: Revenge of the Crab People,  an interactive 4D show coming soon to the World Expo area of the park. It occupies the space between The Simpsons and Men in Black, and actually becomes a mini land of its own like The Simpsons. The show involves water, scents, and fog (AKA Smug). The show offers Express and is around 10 minutes long. While everyone can come and watch, there is parental advisory due to the use of swear words. The show is a continuation from the episode Smug Alert.

South Park is a popular comedy TV Show on Comedy Central. It has 16 seasons and a full length movie. The show is known for it's episodes being created in one week.

Area:
This mini land is themed to the town of South Park. You can even get some Tweek Coffee or eat at the local KFC! The show itself takes place inside South Park Elementary at the back of the mini land.

Photobucket
Queue 1:
The queue is the school. You'll start out in the lobby, then you will make your way to the cafeteria. When you're in the kitchen, an AA of Darth Chef is in there parodying several Star Wars quotes.
Photobucket
Next you'll proceed into the gymnasium where Mr. Mackey is giving a presentation on how good driving Hybrids are, M'kay. If you notice carefully, Stan, Kyle, Cartman, Kenny, and Butters aren't there. After passing through the gymnasium you'll go upstairs into the library where we find the boys waiting for us.

Pre-show:
The boys have set up a stage inside the library where they tell us what's going on. The boys come on screen.

Stan: Thank you for coming, but we don't have much time. A few years ago my friend Kyle-

Cartman: The Jew.

Stan: Suggested after a smug attack that we drive Hybrids without gloating. The town agreed it would take a while to drive them again. Here we are and the town "suddenly" decides to drive them again after seeing new models of Priuses, Focuses, Souls, and more! The result again led into another smug attack that we're facing.

Kyle: Unfortunately the adults are hypnotized into them and acting like they're perfect. It's so God damn annoying when they say "Good for you!"

Cartman: Again, we can all thank Kyle for doing this since he's a stupid Jew!

Kyle: Shut up Cartman!

Cartman and Kyle get into a fight off screen (we can hear them around the  room) while the other 3 boys continue to tell us about the attack.

Stan: The adults are practically hippies now with everything having to do with saving the environment and animals.

Butters: I can't even have or say hamburgers anymore!

Stan: Since the adults are hippies and the other kids are doing drugs, it's pretty much up to us to save the environment the right way.

Butters: In the playground we have a giant gas powered vehicle that fits all of us!

Stan: We can get down there when they stop fighting.

5 second pause

Stan: I said we can get down there when THEY STOP FIGHTING!

7 second pause

Kenny: GET THE HELL OVER HERE!!!

Cartman and Kyle come over to the stage and we're sent downstairs to the playground.

Queue 2:
We go out of the library into the hallway, then we go down stairs through another hallway until we reach the doors to the playground. The 3D glasses are picked up here as we wait for the current show to end. Please note most of the time the 3D is for depth as we're supposed to be in a vehicle (like Star Tours).

Main Show:

The doors open and we take our seats in the giant gas powered vehicle. The theater can fit around 400 guests and offers a row of stationary seats in the front. AA of the 5 boys are in the room controlling the vehicle.

Stan: Ok everyone, it's time to save the environment the right way!

We're on our way out of the playground, but we run over the outdoor equipment on the way. The floor raises in a certain area of the theater depending on where we ran over it. We make our way to Main Street where we crush about every Hybrid in sight. Several different Hybrids can be spotted if you look closely, including some spoofs of them.

Cartman: Our next stop is going to be the farm due to the fact that the adults are now vegans and aren't cooking MY KFC!

We go over to the farm and pick up some cows and chickens.

Butters: Oh gee fellas, what if the farmer comes after us again?

Kyle: Considering the adults are crying over the loss of their cars, I doubt we'll see them for a while.

The room smells like a barn due to the fact there's no where else to put the animals.

Kenny: These animals smell like crap!

Stan: I guess we can deliver them to the factory where the meat is produced.

We go over to the factory to deliver the animals.

Factory man: Hello, what can I do for you boys today?

Stan: We have some cows and chickens to deliver.

Factory man: Ok, just hand them over.

The smell leaves the room as the animals drop through the floor.

Cartman: We just dropped them on the floor so you'll have to get it yourself,  we're in a hurry.

Factory man: I'm to fat to get under there!

Cartman: Ok, we'll just get the fudge out!

Kyle: There's a hippie mob downtown, let's go there!

We go over to the mob to find a HUGE cloud of smug. The smug starts breaking through the vehicle with black fog invading the room.

Stan: What's going on?!?!

Kyle: This can mean only one thing; CRAB PEOPLE.

The room blacks out for ten seconds, then we wake up after being unconscious.

Cartman: Oh my God, we're in the crab people land.

Photobucket

A crab person comes over to greet us on screen.

Crab king: Hello, I am the king crab of the crab people. Why have you come to disturb us?

Stan: I don't know. Smug just invaded the vehicle and here we are!

Crab king: Ah, yes. All part of my master plan.

Boys: Huh?

Crab king: You see, the new commercials for Hybrid cars hypnotized people into buying them, similar to when we made them all metrosexual. We hypnotized them with more commercials, this time with hippie public service announcements. The way this is going, the world will be ours!

Butters: Well why would you do that, Mr. crab person guy?

Crab king: After our fail attempt with metrosexuality, why not make the humans go green?

Cartman: You do realize we're all gonna kill you right?

Crab king: Not quite...

The king uses his staff (pops out of the screen) to lure Kenny. The Kenny AA goes out of sight, then we see him on screen. The thousands of crab people come on screen and kill Kenny.

Stan: Oh my God, they killed Kenny!

Kyle: You bastards!

The crab people chant "Crab people, crab people" over and over, then the boys agree it's time for a war.

Stan: You see that button on the right side of your chair? Push it now!

We all push the button to make a big explosion. That doesn't work.

Cartman: Why the hell didn't it work?

Stan: The crab people are too strong for us!

Crab people (costumed people) invade the room and run through the rows taunting us.

Butters: The crab people are here!

Stan: Time for Plan B!

Kyle: Plan B?

Stan: Yes, Plan B.

The floor rumbles, our chairs tilt back, and we blast through the crab people.

Cartman: Holy FUUUUUUUU!!!

Crab king: You're no match for me!

Suddenly, underwear gnomes burst in and fight the king.
Photobucket

Crab king: You're no match for me!

Underwear gnomes: Oh yeah?

The underwear gnomes throw dirty underwear at the king until he falls into the lava.

Crab king: I'll be back, just wait!!!!!!

Stan: Thanks for helping us out.

Gnomes: No problem!

Butters: Say, can you get us back up to the mob?

Gnomes: You bet!

The floor rumbles and we blast up back to the mob. The boys leave the auditorium onto the screen with a message for the hippies.

Stan: Hey, listen, settle down! Look, while you guys are all environmental friendly, too much of a good thing can be bad. Just look up to the sky, there's smug everywhere! If we keep a good balance between Eco-friendly and waste, the town can be normal again.

Stan sings a twist on "People drive a Hybrid now", this time about keeping a balance of things (look up the song on You Tube). The town cheers when Stan is done and agrees to keep a balance of things.

Stan: Thanks for helping us you guys, we couldn't have done it without you!

Cartman: We really didn't need you, we're just saying that so you feel accomplished.

Butters: You can come back to the town anytime!

Cartman: I'm serious, we're just telling you this to feel proud.

Kyle: Enjoy the rest of the town!

Cartman: You know what, screw you guys, I'm going home!

The show ends and we exit into South Park Gifts, a place where you can get merchandise such as Cheesy Poofs, Build a Mr Hankey, Towlie towels, and even the boys hats!

In 1986 writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons released on the world what would become the #1 selling graphic novel of all time. It would in 2005 be hailed by Time magazine as one of the 100 greatest novels ever published. This story was WATCHMEN, an adult look at the concept of superheroes and how they would act and be perceived in “the real world”.
It has influenced countless writers and artists and set the world on fire with the live action screen adaption released by Warner Brothers (well, technically it didn’t set the WORLD on fire, just one particular theater…which was empty at the time…and the fire was attributed to bad wiring in the projector booth, but that’s neither here nor there).
Now, these creative forces have struck again with the new Saturday morning cartoon version of WATCHMEN, see this link

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDDHHrt6l4w

UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD in a joint venture with Warner Bros. Studios proudly present the new animated 3-D film:

WATCHMEN FRIENDS in THE ENVIRONMENT: THREE MINUTES TIL MIDNIGHT
Photobucket

Located in the old Terminator 2 3-D building, visitors to Universal Studios Hollywood will see a building decorated to evoke a cartoony version of a New York City skyline with yellow cabs parked outside with the tallest building in the center of the complex marked with a giant “V”. The V standing for Veidt Industries, owned by Adrian Veidt the billionaire industrialist.

As guests wait in the queue for the next show to begin they are treated to a pre show video on TV screens above their heads. This video will tell the visitors a little bit about this version of the Watchmen universe. This will include campaign ads for President Nixon’s 5th re-election in 1998, Veidt industries and the promise of a better tomorrow, public service commercials to beware of the REDS, a commie street gang and their turf rivals, The Top Knots a group of top knot wearing street thug no-goodniks.

We are then invited into the main lobby of Veidt Enterprises and greeted via Hologram screen by Adrian Veidt himself. Veidt is a muscular looking sort with blonde hair. He wants to thank us all for attending the presentation today at his world headquarters. He believes its time for the world to know who the real Adrian Veidt is. He then changes into his guise of costumed superhero Ozymandias. Yes, he tells us, it was he all along fighting all those super villains, but its time now to come clean and show the world that its not all just about cleaning the clocks of street thugs but the environment itself that needs saving. In fact we all need to do our part to keep our world safe. After all, the clock is ticking ever closer to midnight and our earth is in the balance, our very existence as the human race is in jeopardy, it doesn’t matter if you’re an American or a dirty communist our mutual destruction may all be but assured….so be sure to recycle!

We are then led into the board room of Veidt Enterprises to sit and watch a presentation by Ozymandias and his fellow Watchmen on the importance of saving of planet. It is important, as we may be exposed to some noxious chemicals from the nuclear plant next door, to wear safety goggles (3D glasses).

On the screen in front of us we are introduced to your favorite superhero team: THE WATCHMEN! We meet dashing party animal NITE OWL, the big galoot with a heart full of love THE COMEDIAN, the sexy and fun loving SILK SPECTRE, kooky animal lover RORSHACH and down to earth lover of humanity DR MANHATTAPhotobucketN.

“You see kids life isn’t all about punching out bad guys and breaking fingers” says Rorshach. “Its sometimes about breaking fingers”, says the Comedian.” Oh you silly guy”, says Silk Spectre. They all laugh.
No, they tell us we all have to do our part to save the world.
Photobucket

We then see a bunch of REDS dumping toxic waste into Central Park Lake. The team announces they’ve got to do something, as dead plants and mutated fish rise to the water’s surface (through special ventilators in the theater we smell raw sewage…ewwww!). Silk Spectre then has a plan…”we’ll sing a song about how its bad to throw toxic waste into a public lake”. All the Watchmen now take up instruments and sing a song about this subject called “TOXIC SLUDGE, EWW YECHHY GROSS”with Silk Spectre on Keytar and lead vocals, Rorshach on tambourine, Ozymandias on drums, Nite Owl on bass and the Comedian on guitar. Those commie REDS learn a lesson and promise never to dump toxic sludge again unless they have a permit or have properly greased the right politicians.

“All right gang, we did it,” they exclaim.” Boy all that singing does make a guy thirsty though” says Rorshach,”Its lucky I stopped by Happy Harry’s Soda Shop for a nice refreshing can of root beer.” He drinks it. “Boy did that hit the spot”, he says. Rorshach then tosses the empty can over his shoulder and it lands on the sidewalk. “Hurm” he says.

“Rorshach’, Nite Owl says,”You can’t just throw your garbage on the sidewalk like that. It’s a recyclable and plus you won’t get your nickel back from the deposit.”
“Hey”, Silk Spectre says,” I’ve got an idea let’s sing a song about the importance of recycling.”

So they perform a song called “A CAN, A BOTTLE…TEN CENTS OF LOVE”
After the song is finished the Comedian and Ozymandias start having an argument about who exactly was out key in the last song and they begin to fight. A real knock down, dragged out slobber knocker which ends up in the Comedian’s penthouse apartment when suddenly Ozymandius pushes The Comedian out the window of his 20th story penthouse apartment. Last minute though, Ozymandias grabs The Comedian’s hand and saves him. “See,” he tells Comedian” This wouldn’t happen if you had double paned windows, plus it would save on your heating and cooling bills and be better for the environment.”

Photobucket
Nite Owl then takes center stage, “Boy, those guys really are crazy, one day they’ll probably kill themselves, HAHAHA! But on a more serious note we’ve all got to do our part to save the planet.”
“Like turning all the lights off, when you’ve got a friend over, hmmm Nite Owl?” says Silk Spectre.
“Silk, you’re embarrassing me”, he replies.
At this moment the glowing blue form of DR Manahttan comes on the scene and lets us know that the Top Knots Gang have snuck into the Nuclear Power Plant down the street.
Dr Manhattan then addresses the audience, “ You see folks nuclear power can be a good friend. It powers our homes, keeps the street lights bright and gives whole neighborhoods a nice healthy green glow. But with the great power of nuclear energy comes also great risk. You see, when I got my power of the atom I was accidently caught in a nuclear reactor and developed super human strength, the ability to change my shape at will, create castles by my very thought on Mars and became nearly a god in my abilities….so as you can see nuclear power is not something you want to fool around with. I’m mean it works for me. But for your average kid being beaten up by bullies for your lunch money and harassed by the neighborhood dog, nuclear radiation like what happened to me sure is something YOU wouldn’t want the power of .”

At that point green nuclear waste ooze seeps down the walls of the theater as our friends the Watchmen try in vain to bring it under control when a piece of calamari that the Comedian is eating is dropped into the nuclear ooze and starts to mutate into a huge squid monster which our team then fights with the power of song as the band of heroes plays their third and final song called “NUCLEAR SQUIDDY WON’T YOU SWIM, SWIM AWAY”. During this song the theater floor rocks with the music of the song (like in the new version of Captain Eo).

The squid monster is defeated through the power of song and the Watchmen thank us for joining them and hope we’ve learned an important lesson about environmental health.

The show ends and you exit through Happy Harry’s soda fountain and gift shoppe to bring some of the good natured fun of the Watchmen Friends home with you.

Poaching at Ape Mountain

The Mission to the Jungle Convention has finally come to Animal Kingdom’s Conservation Station. The main panel, concerning poaching around Ape Mountain in the Bukuvu, is free to all!

Specs: A new 400 seat theater, located right in front of the conservation station, has been built to accommodate the 20 minute show. The narrator is always depicted as a voice coming from the ceiling.

Exterior and Queue: The exterior is a large glass wall (Think the Georgia World Congress Center). Guests enter the indoor switchback queue and see posters depicting Ape Mountain, the poachers Max and Thor, a certain tree house, and the infamous White Ape.

Pre-show: The narrator, voiced by Keith Scott, begins the preshow, “Welcome to Mission to the Jungle’s panel on Poaching around Ape Mountain. Our guest speaker, or primate, is currently on his way from Las Vegas and would like to show you some things via Skype” (The attraction sponsor). An ape named “Ape” appears on television screens over head, introduces himself and decides to first tell you what happens to poachers. The screen changes to the Las Vegas scene from the movie George of the Jungle. Ape is performing “My Way” with the poachers Max and Thor as stage props, but as the scene continues, the two poachers sneak out. The narrator interjects the video and points out Max and Thor’s leave. They argue until Ape says he’s landing. The theater doors open and guests enter.

Main Show: The curtains are still closed when the narrator begins his longwinded safety and courtesy speech. The curtains open revealing Ape (AA the style of Mr. Lincoln at Disneyland) sitting at a desk with his suitcase next to him. 3 large screens cover the wall behind him. He begins by describing his fascination with Skype and how he will use it to show guests live feed of Ape Mountain, some animals, and above all, George of the Jungle! George is in front of the right screen, the left screen continuously changes to different views around the tree house, and the center screen depicts the current subject. Ape continues to describe Skype, its usages, and things George needs to know about it, until the narrator finally interrupts him to get on with the show.

Scene 2: Ape tells of the effects of poaching and how each animal is affected by it. Little Monkey, Shep, the Lion, multiple Gorillas, and more animals are interviewed (George translates).

Scene 3: As the Lion ends the last interview, George speaks up. Shep is seen unconscious on one of the changing left screens. George leaves his post to investigate and Ursula takes his place. She tells of threats poachers pose to Bukuvu as a whole. A loud Jungle call is heard followed by a large thwamp! Ursula lets out a belated “Watch out for that tree!”

Scene 4: The middle and left screens change to George’s landing where a fight ensues between Max and Thor, carrying saws to cut Shep’s tusks off, and George. Some animals join the fight when George is just about to lose, but they help turn the tide. All the while, Ape and the Narrator and commenting on their fighting skills. Thor continually tells them to “shut up!” Finally Ursula leaves her screen and together, George and Ursula swing into Thor and Max defeating them and closing them in a cage. Gorillas proceed to take them away.

Scene 5: Ape thanks you for your help and for coming to the panel. The Narrator, knowing that you didn’t really help at all, corrects Ape who angrily looks skyward. The curtains close with the theme song playing. Guests exit out of the theater.

Conservation Station: Guests exit to the conservation station, re-themed to the Mission to the Jungle exhibit.

Poaching at Ape Mountain will give guests a real reason to finally take the train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch.

Happy Feet: On Thin Ice

happy-feet-2-wallpapers_31478_1600x1200-3

With the expansion of the Penguin Plaza and the re-theme to “Antarctica” SeaWorld Orlando is proud to announce to you the newest attraction to SeaWorld Orlando Happy Feet: On Thin Ice!

Happy Feet: On Thin Ice is inspired by its namesake Happy Feet film franchise produced by Village Roadshow Pictures and released by Warner Brothers Pictures and will be a great addition to SeaWorld and the Antarctica pavilion.

The Show/Theater:

Happy Feet: On Thin Ice will be an ice show! That’s right all the actors and performers of Happy Feet: On Thin Ice will be on ice skates and doing their routines on ice. Happy Feet: On Thin Ice will be shown and housed at the “Frozen Tundra Palace”.

Guests will seat around the ice on 3 sides like a horseshoe. In the show there will be figure skaters, ice dancers, Happy Feet characters, and real live animals that live in Antarctica! The “Frozen Tundra Palace” is a large theater fitting over 1500 people into building.

Behind the ice rink will be a giant screen on the screen will help depict the Arctic region and help give the illusion to guests that they are in the Arctic. The screen will also help give the illusion of movement by characters and give more detailed scenery that they can’t give on the ice. For example there will be boats in the water, and also at one point the ice breaks and this will help with that.

Theme/Scenes:

The show centers on the fact that the both polar ice caps are melting, the sea is rising, commercial overfishing has depleted food sources, and other various environmental problems that not only effect humans but also sea life and animals that they need help to stop or fix the problem.

As with the both Happy Feet movies the ice show will use popular music from all genres and era’s and also use dance, and in this case ice dancing, and competitive figure skating to help tell the story of Happy Feet: On Thin Ice.

Introduction:

There are two major story arcs through the show. First the animals and major characters from the movie and second the human scientists who are trying to protect the region from illegal fishing and dumping. The arcs do meet at the end.

Mumble, Ramon, Lovelace, the rest of the “Amigos” and Bryan the Elephant Seal are fishing for food one day and notice that it’s taking longer and longer for them to catch fish and they see in the distance fishing boats that have popped up all around the shores of the Antarctic and so want to investigate these boats. On the way out they realize that the beach is littered with trash from places unknown to them including New York, Paris, London, Taiwan, Sydney, Tokyo, and China and they want to know how stuff can get to them. And so they set off to investigate the boats.

In the meantime 2 scientists a married couple and their family are doing work for the World Park Base, their 10 year old daughter and 12 year old son are watching over and admiring the penguins and other sea creatures when they see them all move towards the boats. They decided to tell their parents about this unusual activity and have them come out and look at this. The mother and father have seen increase fishing traffic in the region and have been going over the Antarctic Treaty System signed by 49 countries to set aside Antarctica as a scientific preserve, establishes freedom of scientific investigation and bans military activity on that continent. They want to see if it’s illegal to fish so close to the continent.

Middle:

As Mumble and others get closer and closer to the boats they see that the boats are indeed fishing but fishing everything they get their hands on including fish, dolphins and whales. And so starts the ice capade err I mean the fun and exciting tale of how the group save the day and free the helpless animals!

Mumble and the crew have to literally bit their way into each net to free the fish and sea life out of the nets and into safety. They also have to find a way into the holds of the boats to get the sea creatures out of the boats they realize that this will be trickier to do and will require some fancy dance moves to accomplish and maybe the song “Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees will be used here ;)! And when they do get them out they have to swim to shore which an over adventure is waiting for them!

Happy-Feet

At the World Park Base the mother and father has found out that it is illegal for the boats to be there and have requested the help from the HMS Endurance which is an Antarctic patrol ship in the region to stop illegal fishing and chase them away. The boy and girl have gone back to their original spots to observe the penguins again.

After returning to the shore Mumble and friends were talking about their recent adventure, one of them does mention that it he is warmer than usual and he just shrugs it off to their recent activity, when all of a sudden there is a slight rumble and shaking and pieces of the ice fall away back into the ocean and the sea actually rises. (When this happens part of the ice rink also seems to vanish and “melt” away also and so the performers and skaters have smaller rink then what they started with. Some of the skaters will actually get close to the parts that have vanished and will point it out to you and seem to almost fall in! This will go on throughout the show). They go out and try to figure out why this is happening and try to stop it before it gets to their nesting grounds and lose that to and they find boats again in the water again, in a different area, illegally dumping trash into the water. This causes rising water and some of it toxic sludge is causing the water to get warmer and in doing so melting the ice. So the gang decides to retaliate and put the trash back onto the boats.

The boy and girl almost fall into the water when the ice starts to melt and decide to follow the penguins when they go after what’s causing everything to happen. When they discover the other boats and the trash they get their parents and all 4 of them confront the boats that are throwing trash in the water and try to chase them away also. These are the same boats that penguins put the trash back into them!

End:

False finale:

Mumble cannot believe that humans can be so careless and ignorant of their actions and that they are destroying the oceans and in doing so harming animals and sea creatures that inhabit them. Ramon being the voice of reason at times says some humans are doing this not all. Some are trying to help them like the family that chased off the fishing and trash boats and through there help and intervention they can save and protect the environment. All that really needs to happen be more understanding and harmony with the world and its environment will be beneficial for all of us!

They see the family taking telling others what they can do to help protect the environment and each person they tell the ice in the ice rink that originally melted has come back and figure skaters can use it again!

Finale:

The lights go out the crowd cheers the performers who under the cover of darkness leave the ice and then a booming voice is heard in the darkness and says:

“Through your actions you can help protect these creatures and in doing so help protect you also. The ocean gives life to many different species that all rely on each other including you! And so take the first small step in conservation of Antarctica which many different creatures and species call home.

happy feet Pictures, Images and Photos

The lights turn on and on the stage there are real emperor, adelie, and rockhopper penguins all on stage also in attendance is an elephant seal and puffins. You will see at this point the real Mumble, Ramon and Bryan and other friends of in the story.

Bridges/Skating

There will be smaller or shorter scenes throughout the show mostly by Will and Bill the Krill who will provide comedic breaks and help bridge the scenes together as time and other constraints cannot support.

They will also help in giving short environmental lessens that help teaches conservation and protection of the environment but in a comedic way. For example one of them throws a food wrapper in the water and the other yells and scolds them. Another example is one of them gets a car and has very bad gas mileage and emits carbon dioxide into the air and the other explains that being having a vehicle that emits so much pollution that it contributes to global warming and that it leads to melting ice caps and rising seas… and to fix this problem he provides examples that fixing the car or getting a newer one will help this problem.

There will be other characters that help to bridge gaps and help tell the story.

This being an ice capade with dancing and figure skating the characters and performers will not only act on ice but during major points in the show i.e.: helping the trapped sea creatures and putting the trash back onto the boats. There will also be figure skating and dancing during scene changes because otherwise it will be just be boring. So during these spots the performers will be doing their performance to popular songs that were used in the movies and others that were not.

Exit:

The penguins and some of the other animals will stay onstage so that guests can come up and get a close inspection of the animals and get their pictures taken near them. They can also come up to the ice rink and ask questions to the trainers to find out more information about the animals. I suspect that not many guests will stay and so if you do it will be a real treat for guest who stays!

ice

Guests will exit through an Antarctica exhibit in which will inform guests what types of conservation and research efforts that are currently taking place right now. Also it will give them an opportunity to learn how they can support or even help with the current efforts going on now. Also it will inform guests on what they can do at their homes right now and don’t even need to go to Antarctica to help in some small but very helpful ways!

General Information:

Due to the uniqueness of the show Happy Feet: On Thin Ice will only run for 4 times a day at set show times. But because of this the shows will be a little longer then other show at roughly 45 minutes long.

TPA Challenge 5 Critiques

Bryce McGibeny: I found "WALL-E's Galactic Adventure" to be a simple, charming, beautifully-themed attraction (although the title had nothing to do with the attraction other than WALL-E being part of it). Your location in Tomorrowland was an excellent choice, especially replacing an unpopular attraction with one more family-friendly. Your proposal was well-written, extremely well-organized and made it very easy to visualize this attraction. I was especially impressed with your queue and preshow area. It would immediately immerse guests into the polluted world that WALL-E and EVE are trying to clean-up, and will make these guests more aware of the dangers of overconsumption and the benefits of recycling. Excellent choice of film subject and theme!
My biggest concern was the length of the show, or more precisely the lack of length. The audience could overlook the lack of a dramatic storyline if they were entertained with a memorable experience. Unless there was much more happening than described in your proposal, this show would only last a few minutes, and the utilization of the special effects features in the 4D theater wouldn't justify the cost of them. The storyline you had, while not very deep in plot, was certainly useable and satisfied the intent of the attraction, but there wasn't enough of it. I wanted more- more effects in the theater, more story, more time in the attraction. They say that you should always leave them wanting more, and you did that. I felt that what you presented was terrific, with a great concept that satisfied the challenge, but I wanted much more and would leave the attraction feeling short-changed.
You proposed a top-notch concept, perfect for the challenge you were presented with. The physical proposal was professional in appearance and organization. The photos were well-chosen and added to the high quality of your work. This proposal could have been the one to beat this week IF you had been more aggressive in developing the central part of the entire proposal- the film. Even so, it is a proposal to be proud of and to learn from. Don't hold back with your imagination! Give us what you got!

AJ Hummel: "The Lorax 4-D: Return of the Once-lers" is a very pleasant, very well-themed attraction, once worthy of the film that it continues. I thought the entrance queue was well conceived and would be a visually fun experience and introduction to the attraction. You might want to have more plants replacing the plastic ones, to show that things are changing in Thneedville and that the people are moving towards a less plastic and more living environment.
I thought the storyline through the attraction was very well done, well thought-out, with a good series of events that would engage the audience and entertain them while impressing the message on them. I thought you made especially good use of the technical capabilities of a 4-D theater in making the experience less of a movie and more of an adventure that the audience is participating in. I thought that the Once-lers suddenly going from bad to good was contrived without something to inspire them to do so. Perhaps some kind of event could be added to make them realize that what their earlier family members did was wrong and that they are doing the same thing themselves. This would avoid having what I call a "miracle occurred" moment, where a pivotal action happens for no good reason.
"The Lorax 4-D..." does not break any new ground in technology or design. It could be built tomorrow, and that is fine. Not every attraction has to be ground-breaking. It is a very well-conceived attraction, entertaining for the audience, extremely family-friendly, with an engaging storyline and a visually appropriate and attractive facility. This is a much improved proposal over last weeks, much better developed and, if less ambitious, better controlled. These proposals can sometimes get out of the designer's control- we are creative people by nature or we wouldn't be doing these competitions. I thought that last week's proposal got out of control a bit for you. This proposal was under control and one to be proud of. Fine work! When does it open?

Chad H.: "The Return of Captain Planet" Wow! This proposal tool some time to dig through. You gave us so much information and detail that I found I had to reread it several times to be sure I had not missed something. I understand your decision to be so detailed and fact-oriented about it, esp. about your choice of park and the surrounding demographics of the area. Few if any of us have been or will ever be there, and the setting of an attraction is an important consideration to its physical design and concept development.
You have given us so much to critique that it is hard to keep this shorter than your proposal! I thought that your inclusion of a map showing the area to be refurbished for the attraction, and why that area was chosen, was a professional approach, as was the image of the HEART Institute structure. The description of the queue and how it introduced the attraction was vividly detailed, and your consideration of the legacy of the structure was well-conceived and a good awareness of recycling, even in buildings.
As always, I have some concerns. I thought your choice of Captain Planet was absolute genius, so obvious that it could have easily been overlooked. I was torn by the fact that the film has not been released, and frankly I thought it was supposed to be released last year, but I decided to give you the benefit of the doubt. But...it has been a long time since Captain Planet has been seen (at least in the USA). I watched it often, but I had forgotten who the different Planeteers were, their names and what their powers were, along with many of the villains and how they tried to destroy the world. This would need to be addressed to the visitors in the queue and preshow, or they would have no idea what was going on in the movie. Also, a simple paragraph at the beginning of the proposal describing each of them, their names and powers, would have be extremely helpful to the judges and voters. I had to look this information up to fully understand what was happening in the film and why.
The HEART Institute is a very confusing choice for the name of the attraction. At first hearing, it sounds like a pavilion at Epcot. I understand why you chose it, but unless you knew the background and storyline of the Captain Planet franchise ahead of time you would not have any idea what the two have to do with each other.
Now the good part. I think that the film and its storyline was absolutely brilliant! I found myself deeply interested in the story, how it was progressing, where it was going, and I felt interested in the characters themselves. This is a top-notch dramatic narrative with great dramatic build, multiple venues for visual interest, dramatic action and personal relationship development- a great film in this genre. It showed the importance of caring for the Earth on many levels, and would keep all family members involved throughout the film.

This attraction would be a powerful introduction and advertisement to a future movie and/or new television series, but it could soon become dated, especially if the series or motion picture became popular. You showed a good awareness of this in providing for the "legacy" use of the facility, possibly to present new, updated Captain Planet films or other ecologically-themed programs.
This proposal was a very fine concept hampered with one major omission that you overlooked (reintroducing who the Planeteers were to the public). As I have said over and over, try to look at your proposal from a critical view, looking for weaknesses, then have someone else do the same thing and fix any suggestions that they make. In a proposal of this high quality, assuming you continue further in the competition, an omission such as this could end your progress to be the next Theme Park Apprentice. Don't let yourself lose because of something you could have so easily fixed.

Alan Hiscutt: "Always Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide" would be a good reuse of an existing space with minimal investment, a good example of recycling with little effect on the "carbon footprint" of the building already standing. I was unaware of the Jiminy Cricket Environmentality Challenge, and when they were mentioned at the beginning of the proposal I thought, "Wow! What a great idea for an attraction!" , even though it has nothing to do with a movie. But then, other than Jiminy Cricket being in "Pinocchio", neither does this proposal.
The concept you presented, an interaction between Bradley Cooper and Jiminy Cricket demonstrating ecological conservation awareness was a pleasant, potentially very entertaining presentation that explained the importance of taking care of our planet in an easily understood manner. The interaction between the two, one (filmed) live and one life-like in 3D, with 4D special effects added, could potentially be very funny. This could help educate the audience without making them feel like they were being educated.
Bradley Cooper. Very personable, very popular, very photogenic, but not the first person I think of when talking about environmental awareness. Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney, Ed Norton and even Pearl Jam are equally if not more famous, and have a history of environmental awareness and activism that would have made them a more legitimate choice of co-host with Jiminy Cricket.
I felt that your narrative was well-written, with a great progression through places throughout the world that showed how every region is reliant on every other part of the world to stay ecologically healthy. You built the action to a sobering awareness of the results of unchecked ecological destruction, and gave the audience a challenge to stop this from happening by using what they saw in this attraction.
Your title had little to do with the attraction other than its origin in "Pinocchio" with Jiminy Cricket and its use as the final line. It would do nothing to attract an audience to this attraction- they would probably be more confused to hear it being located in Epcot and not Fantasyland. The location in the Imagination! pavilion, while an admirable reuse of an underutilized space, would lead to further confusion. This attraction would be a much better fit in The Land.
I really feel bad being so negative about a well-written proposal that would create a thoroughly enjoyable entertainment that would educate its audience in a fun, memorable way. The issues I mentioned are not insurmountable, but in a proposal such as this they should have been addressed before being presented.

Andy Milito: You were concerned that you didn't have any pictures in your proposal. I don't think they were needed. Your description of "Finding Nemo: Saving the Sea" was written well enough that I had no problem seeing the attraction in my mind. This proposal was perhaps not as complete a description as you could have done, but it was complete enough to get your concept across.
The story was simple, easy to follow and feel connected to, had enough conflict to create dramatic tension, and had a message that was clear but not preachy. It showed, from a fish-eyes view, how human actions affect the fish, and what we can do about it. The multiple uses of the 4D effects were well integrated into the story.
I question its placement in Animal Kingdom, esp. with "Finding Nemo: The Musical" already playing there. It would be confusing to the guests to have two attractions with Nemo in the title in the same park. "The Seas with Nemo and Friends" would be a much better location.
This was not an aggressive, innovative proposal, but it met all the requirements for this challenge. It described a good, solid attraction that would entertain and educate the guests about the importance of caring for our oceans and its inhabitants. Good job.

Dominick D.: "South Park: Revenge of the Crab People". This was an- interesting- concept. You were complete in the technical description of the attraction, including its placement in the park, a detailed description of the structure and queue, and technical details of the theater structure and special mechanics required for this attraction.
The other judges and I write our critiques on our own, totally independent of what the others write. I don't know, but I suspect that I might be deviating from them in what I have to say here. So be it.
South Park is, by it's very nature, controversial, crude, politically incorrect, and in this way you were true to the source material for this attraction. It was crude, insulting, politically-incorrect, insulting to many in it audience. Part of your audience would love it and return over and over to experience it. Others would be totally baffled, leave and never go there again. Still more would be so offended that they would try to burn down the building. I don't know where I'd be, but since you chose to base your proposal on South Park I think you did a commendable job of recreating that strange, satirical world of raunchy humor, terrible animation and weird characters that die weekly and insult everyone. Whether I enjoy it or not is irrelevant- as far as the quality of the proposal goes, I think you did a faithful job of creating an attraction loyal to the theme of its source material.
Your attraction's theme was appropriate for the challenge and was loyal to the satirical nature of South Park. That is where I have my biggest problem. This attraction would have a large number of fans, but also a large number of detractors based on its use of obscenities and many inappropriate concepts. I can't in good conscience imagine this attraction being installed in any park in this country. Too controversial, too politically incorrect. I am well aware that South Park is controversial and politically incorrect to the core- right now I'm listening to the Broadway recording of "The Book of Mormon" by Matt Stone and Trey Parker, and think it is one of the funniest things I've heard in years. But we're talking about "South Park: Revenge of the Crab People" in a theme park, and I think it would be too much of a distraction to the rest of the Universal Studios Orlando resort to be seriously considered.

Joseph Catlett: After reading your proposal for "Watchmen.." several times, I found myself sitting and feeling like I suspect most of the visitors to this attraction would feel- "What was that all about?" I am only vaguely familiar with the Watchmen. Although it is critically acclaimed and very popular among certain segments of the population, there are many who are completely clueless as to who or what it is. You were wise to dedicate an extensive part of the queue and preshow to explaining who the Watchmen are and what the Watchmen universe is like.
OK, Joseph, I am going to be blunt. I have great respect for your work, and I think that last week's proposal was hysterically funny. This week's proposal- not so much.
I can understand where you are going with this concept, and in that way you were loyal both to the weird Watchman universe and the theme of this challenge. But I think the entire concept of environmental awareness would be lost in the broad, slapstick attempts at comedy and intentionally banal songs that make up most of this attraction. Environmental awareness would be replaced by environmental irrelevance. Perhaps it would play better than it reads, but this is once instance where I didn't find the comedy funny. Every great writer has ideas that don't quite work well. This proposal was well- presented, but the quality of your presentation wasn't enough to carry it.

David L. It took me awhile to realize that "Poaching at Ape Mountain" was a "George of the Jungle" based show. The title sounded like a National Geographic special. Once I understood what was happening, I found it to be an entertaining show, even if it is quite light on serious conservation awareness. It made it appear that the animals can take care of themselves as far as poachers go, which is not the best message to send them out with. The inherent silliness of the George of the Jungle franchise makes it difficult to use it to show anything that should be taken seriously, including the serious problem of poachers. I think the use of multiple screens and the Skype sponsorship concept would be an interesting way to keep visual interest going, especially among the younger audience members who are perhaps more visually tuned to multiple images being shown them at once.
This would be an entertaining, potentially quite funny, but not very educational show, loaded with mirth but light on substance.

Dan Babbitt: "Happy Feet: On Thin Ice" was an excellent proposal (with a few rushed typos and grammar snafus- Dan, we talked about this! ;+) Perhaps because it was such a departure from the other proposals, I felt it was a stand-out proposal this week. You combined a show that demonstrated environmental awareness, encouraged taking part in ecological conservation and promoted "green: technology with an always-entertaining ice show. This would be a family-friendly attraction that would keep everyone happy throughout the show.
Your description of the ice arena was adequate, but a picture of one would have been appropriate and you did have room for one more picture. As far as the production was concerned, I felt that you did a commendable job of telling the story, explaining the actions and interactions of the stage and ice area, and how the various parts of the storyline would be interwoven. I think that the storyline could have been tightened-up a bit, but it was certainly serviceable and told the story in an entertaining way, with a mixture of drama and humor. Having the ice "melt" and thus limiting the area to be available to the skaters was an inspired decision, putting the loss of polar ice directly in front of the audience. The last finale, with live polar creatures on the ice (I assume the polar bear photo was just for affect and that you would not bring a live polar bear onto the ice to eat the other creatures and possibly several audience members!) would be a wonderful opportunity and a unique one for the audience members who took advantage of it.
This was a top-notch proposal, one worthy of consideration by SeaWorld and one I would love to attend.

Bryce- A replacement for Stich’s Great Escape…what?! I honestly might be the only person who can actually tolerate this ride and feels bad publicity has condemned the attraction. That aside, Wall-e was a smart, but safe move to go with to replace a show in Tomorrowland. This type of attraction takes Tomorrowland into a whole different direction, having a show focused on recycling. It emphasizes what humans should be thinking about, otherwise the world will end as a wasteland. The note of the sponsorship by Waste Management was a nice touch to the show. The trash filled queue and preshow are two good ways to begin the show, emphasizing recycling throughout (including recycling of the 3D glasses).I think you kept the storyline basic this week, when it could have been expanded a bit. More would have been a huge plus in this type of show, along with the mention of the 3-D effects. While the show is very cutesy, I think you did a great job in attracting younger audiences to begin recycling like Wall-e and Eve.

AJ- Before I start getting to the good stuff, the placement of this show seems off. You chose a somewhat odd placement in Universal Studios Hollywood, while this show could have easily been placed at Islands of Adventure. The movie choice, as with Bryce, is a little predictable, but would be a good move to capitalize on fast. I am a little unfamiliar with the new movie, but I have seen the first version of this a few years ago. You seem to stay true to the story, recreating the magical world that Seuss designed, starting with the exterior. You have some nice touches, such as the stationary seats, that show you are considering every guest. I think the story is an interesting take, but I think you might lead the audience to view the Once-ler as somewhat of a villain in the early scenes. In scene 3, you begin with some of the scents that you have mentioned before, giving off a fruity scent that will surely please children. I am a little unclear as to why this fruity scent was used, however. The sulfur scent later introduced in the factory scene is more appropriate in helping to immerse guests in the environment. I think a bit more introduction of scents, and special effects within the show would be beneficial for the 4-D nature of the film. In conclusion, the show takes the movie a bit further into what sounds like an acceptable sequel focused on furthering the education of ecological preservation.

Chad- It is most definitely acceptable to design a ride for a park that you know of more than others are. I think it makes the proposal unique rather than focusing on Disney or Universal. Seeing Captain Planet immediately brought me to having a flashback. I used to love this show when I was younger, and liked the fact that you are proposing this to be a tie in with a possible upcoming movie. The explanation as to why this would work here was a great note, and helped give some extra information to the readers. Mini-lands are always a plus and I think they simply add to the overall experience of an attraction. The inclusion of a whole Heart Precinct, with the surrounding modernized building, transport guests into a time in the future. The show length is definitely long, which is one of the only flaws. A 30-40 minute presentation would most likely be more suitable for a live action style show. The continuing flaw with a 3-D show is that you did not make mention of any type of people or effects that would come at the viewer. The write-up for this show is absolute perfection in my opinion. You included an intriguing episode-style story to the show, which was a great move and could be rotated to include other stories. I think your show will help return Captain Planet to his former greatness, being very nostalgic for those who have seen the show. You most definitely redeemed yourself with this show this week, great work!

Alan- I think you made major improvements with the cohesiveness in this week’s proposal. I thought the idea was original, making use of a character from a movie that connects to the environment. The introduction of a celebrity, Bradley Cooper, reminds me a bit of Ellen’s Energy Adventure, a favorite of mine. I think the choice of a celebrity guest was an excellent move. I enjoyed the changing use between dialogue and the show descriptions. The little bits of humor within the show would keep the teens entertained just enough. The whole ride seems to be a combination of Ellen’s Energy Adventure, Soarin, and The Circle of Life. My main concern is that this would never have a chance to be built at Epcot, unless the three attractions closed. The show is very educational, with hopes to inspire some ideas in guests. The proposal taught me a thing or two about the cows and rainforest. In conclusion, I think you designed a great 4-D style show, but it could have used a bit more special effects. It sounds like fun, while staying educational and original.

Andy- When reading the title, all I could think was, “oh no not another Nemo attraction”. I think Disney has outdone Nemo, while other Pixar films, such as the Incredibles, have gotten no attention. Issues aside, I think you included some interesting effects such as the “inking”. The movie works well with the environmental theme, clearly explaining how an ocean can be polluted as well as the land. I think this was an interesting angle to take this week, while many people focused on the land as the environment. Oil spills are obviously an issue that has become a hot topic lately, especially after the BP disaster. The placement within Rafiki’s Planet Watch is perfect and would hopefully attract people to this deserted land. The show comes across as a fun experience that will certainly get attraction for being related to Finding Nemo.

Dominick- Honestly, I think this was another huge step back. I think you would have been better off focusing on Phineas and Ferb, or Over the Hedge. The organization, grammar, and use of realistic technology was much better this week, than I have ever seen with you. However, while other contestants focused on environmental movies, or animals, your proposal focused on South Park. The profanity is ok for some people, but I tend to find even the slightest bit of profanity, for comedic purposes in these types of show, to be extremely juvenile. Maybe I am a bit biased, but I find South Park irritating, instead of funny. Getting back to the point, I hardly saw much of a connection to an environmental message. The dialogue gave me no sense of how this would relate to being a 3-D show at all. The proposal was a huge stretch from what I would consider an educational film that would be advising guests about natural disasters. Instead, I think it would get a tween audience who would only be interested in some laughs.

Joseph- After and interesting and funny proposal, I am not sure where this proposal was going. The Watchmen hardly has a connection to the environment. Instead, I think of a graphic novel where many guns are involved. Honestly, I thought the proposal was a setback from last week. I did not find the theme to fit well, and felt the use of song within the proposal was not important. And then the songs continued, with weird titles. I understood the superhero nature of the proposal, by having a group save the environment. However, the Watchmen are not so much known for saving the environment. The whole proposal came across as awkward for me, mostly because of the theme and the transformation of the Watchmen into a musical.

David- At first, I thought your proposal was a bit tricky to judge this week. With reading the beginning of the proposal, I did not see a connection to a movie. About halfway through, I realized that this was relating to George of the Jungle. Advising against poaching was a different way to go with this proposal, because harming apes are harming part of the ecosystem. I think the movie worked great with this type of show, not sounding like a sequel or spin-off at all. Instead, I think it would reintroduce masses to a different side of George of the Jungle, a dangerous side that deals heavily with poaching. The talking animals would certainly attract a younger audience to the show, but you managed to maintain a serious tone throughout. The rethemed Conservation Station was a nice touch, adding to the cohesiveness of the surrounding areas. I thought both yours and Andy’s proposals addressed a certain situation, and handled it well. You both addressed the abandoned Planet Watch, but designed something that would fit well and attract viewers.

Dan- I was hoping all week that someone would make use of Happy Feet, being one of the best non-Disney animated films. You took the movie, and had a perfect placement for an attraction. It was done much differently than a majority of proposals this week. Instead of a 3-D film, I was happy to hear that you created an ice show. Maybe it’s the summer heat talking, but I think the Tundra Palace theater would be absolutely perfect. You seamlessly included global warming within the proposal, showing how the icecaps are melting. The use of two story arcs was a very artistic move, which I think made the show much better. It showed the human side of the story, showing how they are actually trying to help preserve the environment. The show sounds like it would be entertaining, while providing a prime way to beat the Florida heat. It is a longer live show, but that is alright because most theme parks do have some longer live entertainment venues.

Bryce McGibeny – WALL-E’s Galactic Adventure – First impression is: thank you for taking out Stitch. It is kind of a bleak queue, but I think it sets up the story well. The problem with taking on WALL-E is that establishing plot is extremely difficult because the two main characters don’t talk. I like what you have done here and think that it would work as a replacement to Stitch, but get the feeling that this might age a little quickly since there is not an overarching plot or some kind of more obvious plot device…..then again it might be like Mickey’s Philharmagic and pack guest to the rafters every time. At least you did a very good job with the environmental message and kept to the rules of the challenge.

AJ Hummel – The Lorax 4-D: Return of the Once-lers – I think you have done a really good job with the setup. Guest know that there is a sense of urgency and a sense of danger before even entering the theater. I think that all of the action and build up that you have is fantastic. I have not seen the Lorax movie, but track what you were doing with it. I was with you all of the way up to the mayor getting caught because he broadcast his plans over the loudspeaker. It seems like there was a lot of build-up only to have the evil genius make a stupid move like that…..and if I am going to gripe about the story, I would have made the original Once-ler a little more eager to help, since if he had been reformed would be almost eager to help again (but it is tough to make that characterization without having seen the original movie). Other than taking the easy way out on the climactic scene, I think this is a pretty good proposal. If I were in charge of deciding what was going to be built, I would give you a handful of ideas to fix the ending with…..and then build it.

Chad H – The return of Captain Planet – First off, Captain Planet is not a movie. The challenge is for a show based on a movie with an environmental theme. While they have announced that they are planning on doing a movie, it has yet to get anywhere yet. Other than that small oversight, I think Captain Planet is a great choice and right on message. I think your running time of 30-40 minutes is excessive in the extreme. If you were writing a double episode this would be fine, but you are writing for an attraction at an amusement park that needs to cycle people through the rides quickly. Most non-live shows are between 7 and 15 minutes. You have also not taken into consideration that people are going to be hopped up on adrenaline from all of the other rides and are not going to want to sit in front of a movie screen for 40 minutes. All of the backstory that you go into is stuff that needs to be taken care of in the queue and not be nearly half of your feature. With all of the different villains and locations and people and situations, this could be the framework for a feature film……but as a quick and to the point amusement park ride, it just doesn’t work, there is too much here that would bore someone who has been running from ride to ride all day.

Alan Hiscutt – Always Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide – Your choice of Bradley Cooper is a little perplexing, and I don’t understand how this fits into the Imagination Pavilion. As per the challenge write-up, this is not based on a movie. The choice of replacing Captain EO is a good one. As per the challenge write-up, don’t give a complete script, which you mostly did. Okay, to the letter of the challenge, you did the environmental message correctly……but the real challenge here was to make an attraction exciting enough that people would want to sit through it more than once. As technical and slow paced as this attraction is, I worry about people getting through it once. Take Captain EO as an example…..the underlying message of Captain EO was everyone getting along and spreading love around…..but it disguised it brilliantly in a high action space adventure with soon to be classic music by Michael Jackson……is that too much to ask for when making an environmental attraction? I wanted high action, you gave me documentary…..

Andy Milito – Finding Nemo: Saving the Sea – Good choice with your movie selection. You have a bit of an odd choice placing this attraction so far back in the park where it takes a great effort to get to it. I like your introductions to the characters, but think that the interviews with the Execs is probably a little misplaced. YES! Finally a proposal that is an topic AND has action! Your proposal is kind of short……the talk about oil, there is a stampede, they view the oil….roll credits. I think that you could have done much more with the same elements, instead of boring talking, have the characters talk while they are rushing around trying to fix the problem. Your proposal is half like saying “hey, look, someone bleeding on the street”…..and then walking away. You had the perfect characters, the perfect situation……and then chose to talk instead of jump into action.

Dominick D – South Park: Revenge of the Crab People – First thing that must be noted is that South Park is not a movie……and has rarely had an environmental theme. Second thing that must be noted is that we asked that you not include a script, which you did. Third thing is that Universal would never allow into their parks an attraction that swore or made fun of Jewish people…..swearing might fly during Halloween Horror Nights, but not a regular permanent attraction. I don’t know if I really need to explain this to you or not……but the Smug Alert episode of South Park is one that is AGAINST environmentalism, not for it. What is the deal with the crab people?? You at least had a decent anti-environmental message and attraction going up until that point and then decided to jump the shark. And then did it again with the gnomes. As a generalized South Park attraction, this might have worked, even if it was all over the map, but as an environmental attraction this failed miserably since it completely ran counter to what we are trying to do. I get the feeling that you were trying to go Llama on this challenge, but at least with the Llamas, they attempted to stay on message, yet in a humorous way. The problem is that there is no way that this would ever be built…..there are just way too many problems with it.

Joseph Catlett – Watchmen Friends: The Environment: Three Minutes Til Midnight. While it is a bit of a stretch, I could see you making an argument for this being based on a movie, even though we know it is a TV show based on a comic book…..none of which have an environmental message to them. I like your explanation of the need to where the glasses. Other than that, I really have to say that I don’t get it. You take an extremely dark set of superheroes and transpose then with crappy mid 1970’s goofball pulp cartoons, the transition is extremely jarring and I think fans of both will reject this attraction. There is one chance in a million that this would be brilliant……but the odds are way too low to actually convince someone to go through with building this attraction.

David L – Poaching at Ape Mountain – I have to start with the fact that George of the Jungle is not a movie, although a poor excuse of a movie was made for it. I have a problem with a large scale attraction being hidden out by the conservation station, as the facilities to get people out to the attraction would not being able to keep up. My original vision of how you described this attraction didn’t really track very well with what you were describing. By the end of your write-up, I had a completely different vision of how the stage is set up and could easily see this being quite a fun attraction. As I am looking over this a second time, I realize that there is a lot to really like here, it has comedy, action, an interesting stage configuration, and likable characters. The plot is a little thin, but a couple of rewrites could easily fix that up.

Dan Babbitt – Happy Feet: On Thin Ice – Very nice choice of franchise and a very nice setting to perform your show. Good job of building up a rational story line. This is a happy, not overly complex story that I think will appeal to the type of people who would be interested in this type of show in the first place. The plot moves along briskly enough, yet contains enough filler to keep everyone happy. This proposal is hard for me because this is a show that I would probably not be interested in seeing, yet I have to admit that it is probably one of the best if not the best of the week.
