Kentucky Kingdom to Reopen in 2014
After multiple attempts it seems like finally it's going to happen.
This has been an interesting week for theme parks with the accidents on Texas Giant and Shoot the Rapids, and this. Officially the park will reopen in May 2014 and lots of work has to be done. Obviously it won't be "Six Flags" anymore.
The park closed in 2009 and has been practically abandoned since, and it's not well known what has happened in there, but the more major rides are still there.
It will reopen with a 7 million dollar coaster. T2, the horrible Vekoma SLC, has a renovation planned, I don't even know WHAT they could do to make it very enjoyable. Greezed Lightnin', a Schwarzkopf shuttle looper, is already being demolished. It's in really bad shape and another Schwarzkopf coaster will come down for good. I've seen pictures of them cutting the track into pieces, so it obviously isn't going anywhere else. As for Thunder Run and Twisted Twins, the woodies, nothing has been announced but there's going to have to be some work there.
What do you think? How do you think the park will do this time? Is it even worth the trouble?
It's not worth the trouble-Six Flags has loads of parks to get money from.
Plus, they might change their minds and tear it down for a neighborhood for all those homeless people in Kentucky :)
Seriously, I don't see how Kentucky Kingdom will make any more money before the dropout.
I don't know if you saw Six Flags isn't owning it anymore if that's what you meant but you're right, I think it won't make MUCH money but I think it will make some. I see some problems with it though. 1: They're spending 7 million on a steel coaster and 12 million on water park stuff... The park is sort of small anyway and that's a lot for water park stuff, thus making the dry park smaller from the expanded water park. If they don't want to be the next "Freestyle Music Park" they should put some of that 12 million toward other rides and attractions. 3: The T2 renovation won't be complete until 2015 and the Twisted Twins renovation won't be done until 2016... That's a long time for a park that will have 2 operating coasters for sure on opening day (the new one and the kiddie coaster) and maybe Thunder Run, the woodie, which would make 3.
I visited it frequently and it never was great WITH Chang and everything else, and without them for the first year it all depends on what they add. If they were able to bring in Ozark Wildcat and Led Zeppelin the Ride that'd be unbelievable. I need to keep dreaming...
It all depends on what they bring in in terms of rides, because even without all the renovations they're going to have to do, if it opened today they just don't have it...
As much as I hope this park succeeds it seems like it won't, it's closed twice already so it'll be hard to keep it from closing a third time.
Yes it's worth the trouble. Ed Hart saved this park before and Magic Springs. Great to see the wood coasters saved.
