Serengeti Express Railway reviews

Theme Park Insider readers offer their ratings and reviews for Serengeti Express Railway, a railroad at Busch Gardens Tampa.

This train takes guests on a perimeter ride around the 335-acre park with stops at the Congo, Stanleyville, and Nairobi areas. Along the way, guests on the train ride can see hundreds of African animals on the Serengeti Plain, twisting elements of the SheiKra, Kumba, and Montu roller coasters, as well as several other attractions at the park.

The four locomotive engines are fueled by clean-burning propane gas. Two engines are replicas of the ones used in Africa in the early 1900s, while the remaining two are similar to those used in the American Old West.

Note: the left hand side of the train offers the best views of the Serengeti.

Decent train ride around the park. At least you actually get to see some animals at the park (unlike the safari). Narrator guy was pretty informative too and was quite funny. It was enjoyable but they need to fix the leaks in the roof of the carriages! 7/10 - D H

Gives some great views of the Serengeti Plain, and a nice chance to see the animals while sitting down. Unfortunately there was only a train every 40 minutes during our visit in November, so only rode it once when I saw the train in the station. - Martin Rees

I thought this was a very good train for a theme park. We had great views of the animals and got some great photos when we went through the savanna area. The wait can be a bit long, but it is a nice way to lazily tour the park. - Carl Stovall

Although relaxing, It was a little too slow and there weren't as many animals to see as one would hope. - Formula 40

Slow loading. Poor nariation. Only running 1 train with waits over 30 minutes. - Joseph Easter

Nice relaxing train ride. The stations are really nicely done and train itself is nice and open. We managed to sit on the inside of the train and we had a really good view of lots of animals including Rhino and Giraffe. Definitely worth a ride if you have the time. - Emily G

7/10.It gets you around the park. But I prefer the skyride. - Nicholas Gammon

This is a decent train ride, but more of an animal exhibit than an actual ride. I saw some ostriches and some rhinoceros, but I didn't feel it was the best train ride I've ever been on. - Patrick Gorham
