Visitors Guide to Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris opened April 12, 1992 as EuroDisneyland. Last year, Disneyland Paris drew more than 10 million visitors - more than any other theme park in Europe. Visitors enter by walking underneath the Disneyland Hotel onto the park's Main Street USA. Le Chateau de la Belle au Bois Dormant [Sleeping Beauty's Castle] awaits you at the end of the street, from which you can enter the park's Fantasyland, or peel off into Frontierland, Adventureland, or the Jules Verne-inspired Discoveryland.

Top5

  1. Phantom Manor
Paris' frontier-themed version of The Haunted Mansion dark ride, with a few show scenes from the never-built Western River Expedition thrown replacing the classic Graveyard scene.
  2. Pirates of the Caribbean
A reimagining of the classic Disneyland indoor boat ride, with several scenes in different order from the U.S. and Tokyo attractions.
  3. Big Thunder Mountain

  4. Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain
This Vekoma indoor coaster opened as Space Mountain in 1995 and was Disney's first roller coaster with an inversion. Height requirement: 47 inches

  5. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril

Park Map

Disneyland Paris is located 20 miles east of Paris and served by the Marne-la-Vallée/Chessy train station. You can access the resort via RER from Paris or via a quick, direct TGV ride from the Charles De Gaulle Airport. A "Magical Shuttle" bus from the Paris airports goes directly to and from the resort and each of its hotels. The price for the bus is about the same per person as the TGV.

Strategy

As one might expect for a European attraction, August is the most crowded month of the year at Disneyland Paris. Crowds are smaller during the fall and winter, when the park can see snow. However, Disney Halloween Festival in October and Disney Enchanted Christmas in December boost crowd levels in those months. As for days of the week, anything other than a Saturday typically is fine.

Other than the character meets, wait times at Disneyland Paris aren't very long by the standards of the U.S. parks. Big Thunder Mountain and the ever-low-capacity Peter Pan's Flight are the worst, so head for them first thing in the morning if you want to maximize your time in the park. Otherwise, a specific tour plan is not necessary here. Note that the Railroad station wait times can be much longer than in the U.S., so that's not a great option to bypass crowds when navigating the park, like it can be at Walt Disney World. The Railroad also uses an odd, U-shaped seating pattern, which can be a but socially awkward.

In addition the "Premier Access" for rides (a.k.a. Lighting Lane in the U.S. parks), Disneyland Paris sells a "Guaranteed Access" pass to get early admission to theater shows, but it's rarely necessary. It is helpful, however, if you want to be assured of a prime seat.
