Six Flags Great Adventure reviewsWritten by Dave Kuehne History: The park opened in 1974 as The Enchanted Forest but was renamed Great Adventure in 1976 and was sold to Six Flags the next year. SFGA features the tallest and faster roller coaster in the world: Kingda Ka. Hours: http://www.sixflags.com. Six Flags Great Adventure is open from March through Labor Day, remaining open on weekends thru Halloween. Tickets: Buy online. Always try to buy your tickets in advance, to save time when you get to the park. Getting them online is the best option. It saves time and money. Reservations: Six Flags sells Flash Passes, which offer priority boarding opportunities. For much more, you can buy a VIP tour, which allows you and your group to skip all the lines. You can also make advance reservations online for Six Flags' Brunch with Bugs Bunny. Strategy: As with any amusement park, arrive early (at least :30 minutes before opening) and hit the headliner attractions first (Kingda Ka should be your #1 priority as its lines get increasingly long throughout the day). After about 3 o'clock, head over to Hurricane Harbor if so desired. Time Saving tips: If the Dream Street Skyway is running use it to easily get from one side of the park to the other. Additionally this attraction offers a great view of the park and lake. The bridge between the Plaza del Carnival and Medusa is a handy shortcut on the far left of the park. New For 2011: Six Flags Great Adventure plans to add a new, 15-story roller coaster named Green Lantern as its 12th roller coaster. Formerly stationed at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom and known as Chang, this relocated Bolliger & Mabillard coaster stands 154 feet tall and reaches speeds of up to 63 mph. The 2 minute ride begins with a 45-degree vertical drop before rocketing riders through five inversions including a 121-foot-tall loop, a 103-foot dive loop, and a 72-foot inclined loop. Green Lantern will be located in the boardwalk section of the theme park. Sadly, the popular Bengal Tiger Attraction, Temple of the Tiger, has been permanently closed. The tigers are no longer living in the habitat they occupied in the Golden Kingdom since 2005. No explanation has been forthcoming from park management.
