Six Flags Great Adventure

About Six Flags Great Adventure

Location: Six Flags Great Adventure is located in Jackson, New Jersey, about half way between New York City and Philadelphia. You can get driving directions by clicking the Six Flags Great Adventure link on Theme Park Insider's Google map of U.S. theme parks.

History: The park opened in 1974 as The Enchanted Forest. The park was renamed Great Adventure in 1976 and sold to Six Flags the next year. The park has one of the highest roller coaster counts of any park, with over 14 coasters(including kiddie coasters). From 1997 to 2006, a new roller coaster has been added to the park every two years, and all have a superb safety record(see the ride list further down the webpage). Please keep in mind that because roller coasters are not for everyone, the park has a host of other attractions that will keep you busy for the entire day.

Hours: http://www.sixflags.com. Six Flags Great Adventure is open from March through Labor Day, remaining open weekend until Halloween, October 29

Tickets: Buy online. Always try to buy your tickets in advance, to save time when you get to the park. Getting them online is the best option. It saves time at the park and it costs less than the tickets you get at the park

Reservations: Six Flags sells Flash Passes, which offer four priority boarding opportunities each. For much more, you can buy a VIP tour, which allows you and your group to skip all the lines. You can also make advance reservations online for Six Flags' Brunch with Bugs Bunny.

Strategy: Head for Kingda Ka first, there is usually no line in the morning. Do all of the major rides first, and stick to rides in that area. Don't be running all over the park to get the shortest lines, just go on all the rides in one area that you want, then move on. It is easy to get de-hydrated and light-headed, so take your time. After about 3 o'clock, head over to Hurricane harbor if you want. The enire complex (in the summer) closes at 10 o'clock or sometimes 11 o'clock. Try to avoid going on the last day of the season. The lines will be horrible for ALL rides. (usually 1-4 hours for almost all rides)
Time Saving tips: If the Skyride(cable cars) are running, jump on them to easily get from one side of the park from another. They save a great deal of time and allow you to relax and get a great view of the park and lake.

The bridge between the new Plaza del Carnival and Medusa is now open, so use this handy shortcut on the far left of the park to avoid going back through the Golden Kingdom area.

Readers' Tips for Visiting Six Flags Great Adventure

[93 + / 11 -] Before the park opens, they let you in but you can't go past a rope blocking you from the rides. Head toward Kingda Ka so you can get one ride with only a small wait. After that go to El Toro and you won't wait long. Those average the two longest lines.

[35 + / 3 -] Check out the new maps for the park. They are online now and are great.

[28 + / 3 -] Keep your head back and still as you can on kingda Ka because if you head is free willing its going to give you a headache. But go for kingda ka then el toro. The Harness on scream machine arent good i bang my head on them all the time and it hurts.
