This video gives a nice little overview of one of the second theme parks that Disneyland could have had, if management hadn't decided t build Disney California Adventure instead:

Trivia time: What was the other park concept that Imagineers developed for Disneyland's second gate, and where would it have been built?

Port Disney/Disneysea. It would have been built in Long Beach with a monorail connecting it to Anaheim. This concept later developed into tokyo disneysea

Just reading here that "California Living" was the precursor to California Adventure.

"an exposition park, directed at both tourists and local residents, that would explore the California Way of Life."

"the concept was developed through meetings in 1959 and 1960."
