From Darkmoor to Trollercoaster: A Universal Orlando trademark update

August 29, 2023, 1:05 PM

It's been a while since I have searched the US Patent and Trademark Office database, so here's an update on new trademark applications recently filed for locations at the Universal Orlando Resort.

Universal and Dreamworks have been busy filing applications for trademarks on location names at the Epic Universe theme park, which opens in 2025. The newest applications are for "Darkmoor," which is expected to be the name for the planned Universal Monsters land in the park. It's big dark ride attraction will be "Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment."

Universal also filed for four new food and beverage locations:
Meteor Astropub
De Lacey's
Moonshine Chocolates & Celestial Sweets
The Burning Blade Tavern

And four other retail stores:
North Star Wintry Wonders
Lens Flare
Various Emporia
The Manor Storehouse

Previously, Universal filed trademarks for what are expected to be the names for two hotels at Epic Universe: Universal's Stella Nova Resort and Universal's Terra Luna Resort.

Other Epic Universe names previously filed for trademark for Epic Universe include:
Constellation Carousel
Curse of the Werewolf
The Oak & Star Tavern
Starfall Racers

And Dreamworks had filed for:
Dragon Racer's Rally
Fyre Drill
Hiccup's Wing Gliders
How to Train Your Dragon - Isle of Berk
The Untrainable Dragon
The Wild Robot

Those are expected to be for the "How to Train Your Dragon" land in the park.

Speaking of Dreamworks, they have filed a trademark for the rather ho-hum name of "Dreamworks Land" for the former Woody Woodpecker's KidZone at Universal Studios Florida. Another trademark application reveals that the new name for the former Woody Woodpecker's Nuthouse Coaster likely will be the "Trollercoaster."

That... seems like a wasted opportunity of a great name there. Comments?

I guess the proposed name of "Dark Universe" wasn't such a good one for the Monsters land.

The Wild Robot is the name of a popular YA novel. They're probably planning a film adaptation.
