Hello everyone. I was recently listening to a podcast on the DIS and during a discussion about the 7 dwarfs mine train, one person said that they actually changed the ride halfway through construction, being a factor of why it didn't open up with the rest of new fantasyland. Can anyone confirm this and if so, can you please say what the changes were, if any?

The big reason that it opened late was that it was not included in the original plans for the New Fantasyland.
Only when people complained that the new version of the land was targeted almost exclusively toward young girls did Disney management order the inclusion of a more gender-neutral-friendly attraction, which led toward the greenlight for the Mine Train. But the late start put the project on a later timeframe than the rest of the land.
