Everyone is Kung Fu Fighting, and other odd theme park concepts

September 4, 2006, 6:19 PM · If you thought a Dracula theme park in the home of Vlad the Impaler was odd, how about a theme park themed to Enter the Dragon? More specifically, its star Bruce Lee in China. The Chinese news agencies are reporting that a park is in the planning stage to pay homage to the late great star of film. The park will feature a roller coaster that imitates the grunts and screams that made his films fun. If thats not enough fun, it will also feature Bruce Lee robots that patrol the park and are controlled by computers located inside a giant statue of Lee. Thanks to Screamscape for the heads up. This screams of something right out of the Simpsons. I love it. What other weird kind of theme parks could you dream up?

Sounds ... um ... Cool.

In the past, we have had conversations about a "Simpsons" theme park.

Also:
A "007" park
A park in Disneyworld devoted to Disney "Villians!"
Even a "Star Wars" park.

The oddest park idea I've heard is a "South Park" park.

September 5, 2006 at 11:57 AM · I would like a park or an area of an existing Disney park to offer a section devoted to the Villians. WDW & Disney in Calif should both offer this when and if developed. As must as we would like, living in Arizona, it is easier cost-wise to get to the California park(s) for us. One day we hope to be able to make it to the Florida attractions to see the amazing extensions to the Disney empire offered there. :)

September 7, 2006 at 8:47 AM · I think the part about the Bruce Lee robots roaming the park is a bit far-fetched.

With the exception of a few demo-bots (like the ones that are used at Conventions to hand out flyers) and bots like Lucky the Dinosaur, there really haven't been many robots loose out amongst the guests.

On stage or in show is a different matter entirely.

Would I like to see such a thing? Heck, yes!

But, unless they're putting Asimo's in Bruce Lee Costumes, I think its a bit of blue-skying here.

And, I rather doubt that Asimo's movement (though impressive for his technology) would make anyone
think of the fluid movement of Bruce Lee.

I'll believe it when I can walk through the gate and see it.

Well, I'm just back from 2 weeks in Italy. How about a park themed to Italian history?

Helenistic-land: Covers 350BC to 0BC.
Sit in a stone theater and watch reenactments of scenes from Iliad and Odyssey.
Use stone tools to shape slabs of marble into great works of art.
Boys are recruited into the Greek army, NAMBLA style.

Imperial Rome land: 0AD to 475AD
We're divided into groups, given weapons, and forced to repress and exploit each other.
Some are selected to be gladiators and forced to fight to the death. Only have to win a dozen fights in a row to win back your freedom.

Dark Ages: 476AD to 1400AD
As we enter the land, waves of barbarians loot and pillage us. We're then fractured into tiny groups and forced to fight each other for the glory and profit of the few most brutal leaders. We turn to the christian religion for protection, only to find it is fractured, curupt and lead by bullies exploiting the people for personal profit. Half the people that survive the wars and religious purges are killed off by plague.

Renaissance land: 1350 to 1500
We forced to paint 472 million images of "Mary with Child" and sculpt 2000 copies of the Pieta (Mary holding dead Jesus).

Foreign Domination land: 1500-1860
France, Spain, Germany and other foreign powers take turns ruling (and clensing through inquisitions and such) the mostly destitue populace.
The one hot spot is Venice, the original SIN CITY where we can find prostitutes, orgies, and many other forms of drunken debauchery. If we get too out of hand there, we're taken through the bridge of sighs to be locked in the prison.

Modern Times land 1860-now
We're finally united into a single hodge-podge kingdom of mismatched parts of cultures and economic disparities in a general stagnant malaze of bigotry and mistrust. Narrowly side-stepping WWI, we're eventually taken over by a fascist dictator that through brutality, finally gets the economy moving... which is quickly destroyed by allied invasion. We're not seen as much of a future threat, so totally ignored by the Marshal Plan of reconstruction. We strugle on in general economic malaze with a fractured democracy cycling through periods of socialism and capitalism for another 60 years largly living on past glory as a turist destination.

Sounds like fun, Yeah?
