Universal Orlando giving away 300,000 free 7-day tickets*

February 1, 2009, 4:15 PM · Well, that was a heckuva deal.

If the Super Bowl hasn't started by the time you read this, you might still have a chance to be one of the first 100,000 people to go to http://www.universalheroes.com/ and enter to get a free seven-day ticket to Universal Orlando.

That was the deal the resort offered in its Super Bowl commercial, which aired just before the National Anthem at the game.

Post if you got 'em, and when you submitted. I put my entry in about within a minute. No word yet. What's the over/under on when they run out?

* Update: Universal's also giving away 28 trips for four to Universal Orlando, in addition to the free 100,000 tickets. The trips include airfare, the seven-day ticket, and three nights' hotel. (Three nights' hotel with a seven-day ticket? Huh?) You can still enter for the free trips even if the 100K tix are gone.

Update 2: Just showed it again: 8:23 pm ET.

Update 3: Universal just sent out its press release. Confirms that the commercial ran three times, with 100K tix given after each. Total value of 300K free tix and 28 trips, according to Universal Orlando? $35 million.

February 1, 2009 at 4:33 PM · So... Universal counters Disney's free one-day, one-park ticket for everyone on their birthday with a free seven-day, two-park ticket for use whenever, but only to the first 100,000 to respond while watching the Super Bowl.
February 1, 2009 at 4:39 PM · I ran to my computer and entered as soon as the commercial aired. I have no delusions about possibly winning but I thought why the heck not? The last time I entered one of these contests, I won four free tickets to any Busch Gardens park of my choice.

As soon as I entered, I went to my email account and they had already sent an email saying I was entered. Don't know when they will announce who won, but if I hear something I'll be sure to let you know.

February 1, 2009 at 4:53 PM · Ouch. No e-mail yet.
February 1, 2009 at 5:04 PM · I haven't received an e-mail notification either.

However, win or not, I think the promotion is terrific. With this and the RRR coaster, Universal is answering the poor economic situation better, IMHO, than Disney. I'll probably visit Universal and Sea World later in the year but skip Disney.

February 1, 2009 at 5:16 PM · It's actually the first 100,000 each time the ad airs if I understand it correctly.

Some more details and the ad itself can be seen at http://www.stitchkingdom.com/2009/02/01/universal-studios-to-give-away-100000-free-7-day-tickets

February 1, 2009 at 5:45 PM · Just got my confirmation into the sweepstakes…
Fingers crossed…
February 1, 2009 at 6:32 PM · On the other hand the folks at the Mouse House have to be VERY pleased to have heard Mr. Springsteen end his AMAZING half time performance by shouting, "I'm goin' to Disneyland!"
February 1, 2009 at 8:27 PM · My wife entered after the halftime showing and got an e-mail response. I never got one from my original entry.

Bruce was hilarious. Hey, Disney World's a lot closer there, bud.

February 1, 2009 at 8:54 PM · I'm in the running as of the third commercial (just got my confirmation - two hours after I entered!). We'll see what happens next. Great promotion.
February 1, 2009 at 9:30 PM · Anybody see the familiarity between this and SFGA (perhaps other Six Flags parks too). SFGA is really into the super hero thing and has many opportunties for individuals to buy and wear capes of their favorite heroes. Maybe is just a coincidence (sorry for spelling!)

They need to do something, the theme park industry is taking a hit in these times!

February 1, 2009 at 9:42 PM · First off this is straight from the Universalheroes.com website:
"13. Winner List: Winner List requests will only be accepted after the promotion end date (listed above) and no later than July 2, 2009. For the Winner List, send an email with subject line: "Universal Heroes Sweepstakes, Winner List Request," to WinListRequests@eprizefulfillment.com. "

Secondly I also got an email confirmation which looks as follows (by the way check your spam mail ...):

February 1, 2009 at 10:27 PM · Damn ... not only does the Canadian government not air the American ads, but the contest itself is only open to Americans.

It was a decent game, but if this ad had been shown I probably would have enjoyed myself more.

February 2, 2009 at 1:04 PM · Bruce singled out the better US Disney park.
I can see a lot of these Universal tickets winding up on eBay.
February 2, 2009 at 2:07 PM · From what I understand, the tickets will be non-transferable. They'll have your name and they'll (supposedly) check ID.

Of course, that raises the question of what percentage of the tickets will be used.

February 3, 2009 at 11:09 AM · Amusing side note: Waaaaaaaaaaay back in the early 1980s, Springsteen's right-hand man (Little Steven Van Zandt -- who sang 'Glory Days' with him during the Super Bowl) got thrown out of Disneyland for dressing in a manner deemed to be too aggressive and gang-like.

And now Bruce hollers "We're goin' to Disneyland!"

Little Steven recounted the incident saying: "It wasn't embarrassing. It was funny really. And what a lot of nerve after modeling the Pirates of the Caribbean after me!"

Since I live about 2 hours from the park I am planning on trying to go everyday for a week with different people so we don't even have to worry about a hotel (one day my hubby, one day my mom, brother....etc).
