Ode to The Hat

January 15, 2015, 2:28 PM · Le chapeau, le chapeau
How we hate le chapeau
Hate to watch how it blocks the street view
First we chop off the top
Then take out the hands
Thirteen years of this stuff? Sacrebleu!

The Disney Hollywood Studios Hat, being demolished

Le chapeau, le chapeau
Hee hee hee, haw haw haw
With a crane they will hack it in two
They pull out what's inside
Yet no one will cry
When this park becomes Star Wars — too true!

January 15, 2015 at 6:23 PM · I took my last photos of the hat in November, specifically because I knew it was coming down. Did the same thing with the entrance area of the Backlot Tour. Now if only I can get news that Dinoland USA is coming down, I'll be a happy guy.

January 15, 2015 at 9:14 PM · Gabriel: If you take photos of Dinoland, maybe it'll go down too. Heh, it's worked on two things, so go for the hat trick. You just might have that "magic touch". ...lol
January 15, 2015 at 11:30 PM · @Rob. Go for the hat trick. I see what you did there.
January 16, 2015 at 8:07 AM · I don't know who decided to put that hat there, but they should be ashamed of that decision. The thing is hideous and so out of place. good riddence!
January 16, 2015 at 9:05 AM · I know the hat was only supposed to be temporary, blah blah blah. I am glad to see it go, and the street view restored to its former glory.
However, I am wondering what is the specific reason they are actually taking it down now? Is there something coming up in that space? Did it have anything to do with the Turner Classic Movies deal? Was it just time?
Not looking to bait any good riddance replies, I'm seriously just wondering if there's a specific reason, right now.
January 16, 2015 at 9:05 AM · Should we be singing this to the tune of "Les Poissons"?? ;)
January 16, 2015 at 9:17 AM · Why are so many haters hating the hat? I will miss the hat.
January 16, 2015 at 10:17 AM · I hope they replace it with a giant Mickey Mouse hand holding a magic wand, curving over the top of the Chinese Theatre. I think they might have one in storage.
January 16, 2015 at 11:15 AM · Once again, I am in the minority. I loved the hat. I have an awesome picture of it on my computer desktop this week, as a memorial. RIP, Mickey Hat.

January 16, 2015 at 5:31 PM · As for why was The Hat was removed, Len Testa on the WDWToday podcast said that Jim Hill told him that The Hat would have been visible from throughout the new Star Wars land and 'they' decided it was time to remove it.
January 18, 2015 at 9:44 AM · I enjoy the Theme Park Insider blog, but I often disagree with the points made on the blog.

To wit: (1). I disagree that Mickey's Hat should be torn down and I do not celebrate it.

(2). I disagree with the blog post about ten ways to avoid diseases at theme parks. The only sure-fire way not to catch measles at Disneyland is to stay away from Disneyland.

(3). I commented on this blog a year ago about the crummy service my fiancee and I experienced at the Knott's Berry Farm Chicken Dinner restaurant. I received several messages from blog users. Each message was some kind of excuse on behalf of Knott's, such as "maybe they were having a busy day". I'm sorry, but this was the first time my fiancee had visited the restaurant, and any restaurant has only once chance to make a first impression.
