Disney Changes Its Popcorn Brand

September 15, 2015, 2:55 PM · The Walt Disney theme parks have signed a new marketing deal with the makers of Pop Secret brand popcorn for that to become the new official popcorn of the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts.

In addition, Pop Secret becomes the new title sponsor of the Fantasmic! show at Disney's Hollywood Studios as well as the sponsor of movie nights at various Disney hotels.

The deal with Diamond Foods is "multi-year" deal and will include various retail and digital promotions for Disney by Pop Secret. Previously, Disney's official popcorn has been ConAgra's Orville Redenbacher's brand.

What do you think of the change?

September 15, 2015 at 3:34 PM · They have had healthy alternatives at Disney for years.

The popcorn deal is gonna generate some FAT (yeah, I went there) cash.

September 15, 2015 at 3:35 PM · its popcorn...who cares
September 15, 2015 at 3:36 PM · Never been a huge fan of popcorn, but Pop Secret is one of the better brands IMO. Good job, Disney!

I never heard any compaints about the popcorn at WDW. Sure there are stories in Japan that the popcorn over there is amazing and can be bought in a multitude of flavours but the popcorn at WDW was always good.
Pop Secret is known about their microwave popcorn and if you have ever tried it and have any sense of tast you must agee with me that the tast is very bad.
So is this change made to enhance the guest experiance, no. It's there to nicle and dime a bilioen dollar business to get a sponsor for the Fantasmic! show and the movies at the hotels. That tiny little bit of money is enough fo Disney to go with a mediocre brand.
When I'm in a theme park I woould love to escape the real world. I don't want to see Starbucks or Walmart or McDonalds or any other brand in there prominent. And I sure don't want Pop Secret.
September 15, 2015 at 4:01 PM · Hopefully there won't be much of a taste difference, but I'll always have fond memories of eating Orville Redenbacher popcorn at Disneyland (and serving it when I was a popcorn vendor).
September 15, 2015 at 5:21 PM · What?! How could Disney do this?! This is an outrage!!! They're changing the popcorn I grew up with and their giving a corporation this much authority in the resorts?! This is not the company I fell in love with years ago!!!

Lol, just trolling, guys, just trollin'. :)

In all seriousness, I really don't care that much. As we all know, Disney's been doing corporate sponsors for years (they're practically Epcot's life blood) so why fuss over it now. Besides, I never eat that much popcorn at the Disney parks. It's mostly just ice cream and candy for me.

September 15, 2015 at 6:16 PM · I really liked Orville Redenbacher and was sorry to hear of the change. When I think of pop secret, I think microwave popcorn which I do not eat. I eat healthy when traveling but do have popcorn as I treat so I will likely try this and see how it tastes.
September 15, 2015 at 7:12 PM · Doubt anyone will really notice the difference. It's not microwave popcorn, so it will taste better than that.
September 16, 2015 at 3:58 AM · Will there even be a change of popcorn...

Probably the same kernels, but label as pop secret!

September 16, 2015 at 5:45 AM · As long as Mickey doesn't start spouting popcorn from his fingers during the Fantasmic show we will have no problem
September 16, 2015 at 6:21 AM · Disney popcorn is an agreed must buy with a lot of theme park employees (myself being one of them) so this is unsettling news. The current popcorn is amazing, if it ends up tasting like other theme park popcorn that will just be disappointing.
September 16, 2015 at 7:07 AM · I love that change because I had a pop Secret last night and It's awesome I love Popcorn!
September 16, 2015 at 8:06 AM · Re: 66.249.93.171

Pfft, that's absurd! Obviously Maleficent's gonna spit the popcorn out of her mouth! Duuuuuuh!

September 16, 2015 at 8:30 AM · I had to do a google search just to see if you can in fact buy Pop Secret pop corn in any version other than microwave. Turns out you can. I don't remember ever seeing it in a store, but it is sold in 30oz plastic bottles.
Here is where I see this as being a boom to Disney.
When was the last time you bought pop corn for home use that wasn't microwave (like Orville's big plastic jug)? Now that Disney has partnered with one of the leading brands of microwave popcorn, they can use that marketing relationship to bring "The Official Pop-Corn of Disney Parks" straight to you on your grocery store shelves. We all know the kiddos reach for character branded products. I see this as a win win for both companies.
September 16, 2015 at 8:45 AM · Tokyo popcorn, or I don't care. #SpoiledNow
September 16, 2015 at 1:51 PM · I secretly bring popcorn into the park in a large ziplock bag. It's my Pop Secret.
