Thinking about New Year's Eve at Walt Disney World? Here's What You Need to Know

October 6, 2015, 1:14 PM · The Walt Disney World Resort in Florida has announced its plans for this year's New Year's Eve festivities, which include an extra night of fireworks in the Magic Kingdom.

New Year's Eve at Disney

The Magic Kingdom will present an expanded "Fantasy in the Sky" fireworks show to celebrate the New Year at 11:50pm on both Dec. 31 and Dec. 30. During the shows, the Tomorrowland Terrace will be hosting special New Year's Eve fireworks dessert parties. Reservations for those can be made up to two weeks in advance by calling +1-407-WDW-DINE (407-939-3463).

Disney World has been working major changes to the Hub in front of Cinderella's Castle that have opened more viewing areas in front of the castle for the nightly fireworks shows. However, even this additional capacity won't be enough to accommodate everyone who would like to watch 2016 begin with fireworks exploding behind the castle. As in years past, plan to arrive in the park early in the day to avoid a potential gate closure, then stake out your place early in the evening to see the fireworks at midnight.

Or... consider one of the other Walt Disney World theme parks. Disney's Hollywood Studios will launch its New Year's Eve fireworks show just before midnight on Dec. 31. Over at Epcot, IllumiNations will play at 6pm and 11:40pm on New Year's Eve, with a special countdown and fireworks show following the final show.

If you want to add dinner to that show, several Epcot restaurants are offering special meals for the evening.

Again, reservations for those can be made by calling +1-407-WDW-DINE (407-939-3463).
