Fans gain one, lose one on new coaster openings

May 25, 2016, 7:57 AM · Busch Gardens Tampa has postponed its planned opening for its new Mack family spinning coaster, Cobra's Curse. The park had invited reporters (including Theme Park Insider) for a media preview tomorrow, followed by an invitation-only VIP party featuring the coaster that evening. Earlier this week, Busch Gardens emailed invitees to inform them that the events have been postponed indefinitely. The park said that it hopes to announce a new date for the coaster's debut, sometime soon.

Meanwhile, Dollywood has started public test runs for its delayed roller coaster, Lightning Rod. This Rocky Mountain Construction coaster had been slated to open with the park back in March but was delayed due to problems with its unique launch system. Lightning Rod is running on a soft-open basis now, with its 45 mph launch apparently working, though under limited capacity.

Dollywood has yet to announce an official opening date for Lightning Rod.
