Third track opens for Disney World's Toy Story Midway Mania

May 25, 2016, 8:17 AM · Walt Disney World has opened the new third track for its wildly popular Toy Story Midway Mania interactive ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Midway Mania is notorious among Disney fans for its long waits and relatively hard-to-get Fastpass reservations. Along with Soarin' and the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Midway Mania is one of those "must have" advance Fastpass+ reservations at the Walt Disney World Resort, to avoid what's often an hour-plus standby wait, even during moderately busy times in the parks.

Disney announced last year that it would add a third track to the ride, where visitors play a series of carnival-inspired video games featuring the Toy Story characters. Eventually, Midway Mania will become part of Hollywood Studios' new Toy Story Land. Presumably, the attraction's entrance will flip to the far side of its show building to face the new land, which is now under construction.

Currently, groupers are redirecting some visitors down a hall near the Fastpass+ and standby line merge point, toward the new loading station for the third track. The additional track increases the ride's theoretical hourly capacity by 50%, which should reduce standby wait times while allowing Disney to make more Fastpass+ return times available for the ride. Judging from anecdotes from fans in the park yesterday, that's already happening, as wait times have declined to very manageable levels, well under an hour.

May 25, 2016 at 9:35 AM · Groupers are redirecting some visitors? I thought they were Salmon.
I crack me up! :P
May 25, 2016 at 9:48 AM · I prefer the original Pirate version of this ride at Disney Quest. I think this ride is overrated if DHS had anything else for kids to ride the line would be shorter

May 25, 2016 at 11:18 AM · I disagree with the haters. I love this ride (like so many others, which is why the line is wait time is so long). I would go on it ten times a visit if there were short lines for it.
May 25, 2016 at 11:44 AM · It's amazing to me how much people on here seem to hate this ride. If it wasn't for the long wait I'd go on this ride several times every time I visit California Adventure.
May 25, 2016 at 11:45 AM · Adding capacity to this ride is highly overdue, and very welcome.
May 25, 2016 at 2:43 PM · When you have been standing in a line for over two hours on a very hot and humid day, the wait is far from fun in my opinion. The ride, however, is great fun!!
May 25, 2016 at 2:48 PM · Anybody who hates this ride has severe mental health issues
May 25, 2016 at 3:18 PM · I love this ride!! Although the last time I rode this ride it was a two hour wait, I still don't love it any less! The realistic decorations (that are from the movie) by the waiting area gives me something to look at when I'm bored standing in line. The ride itself could be a bit longer but overall it is a great ride that I will always ride when I vacation at Walt Disney World
May 25, 2016 at 6:19 PM · I for one find this a great family shoot em up style ride, can not understand why anyone would not like the theme or the ride, the que is great fun just to look over Andys bedroom style setup, I for one would like to ride this more then once and hope the new rides and lands being built at DHS take away some of the guests onto new attractions and let's this one have less capacity alowing our family to ride this again and again, at present with very little on offer at DHS due to expansion I think opening the third track will be a welcome blessing.
May 25, 2016 at 9:11 PM · I love it too. It is typical anymore that if an attraction isn't the best thing ever, then people will not like it.
May 25, 2016 at 11:12 PM · The people who hate it are the ones that suck at the game. They've got no hand eye coordination and frankly don't get it. If an attraction requires skills they can't handle it and immediately dismiss it as no good.

There is a reason why they added a 3rd track and why the stand-by queues are so long. Most people LOVE this ride.

May 26, 2016 at 1:23 AM · This is a cute ride, I don't hate it at all (*nods head towards Stitch*), but to me personally it doesn't justify the old wait times. Not sure there is anything that I find so offensive on this ride to credit the level of hate it sometimes gets.

If we are in DHS and strolling by early and the wait is 20/30 mins - rare I know - we would go on it. Anything over that we skip it.
Saying that - it REALLY needed the extra capacity and this is a welcome positive change. I also think when the full new land opens it will take even more pressure off the TSM wait times.
I'll looking forward to hopping on and getting my traditional low score, I play for fun (yeah right!)

May 26, 2016 at 2:54 AM · This is the perfect ride to go on OVER and OVER again. Healthy competition breeds better days at Theme Parks!
May 26, 2016 at 6:32 AM · so many times ive gone to go on this ride only for it to say 90 mins wait time and i walk away . only ever got in with fast pass
May 26, 2016 at 8:08 AM · I must add my name to the list of folks who may not hate this ride, but just don't understand why it's a ride.
May 26, 2016 at 2:39 PM · Oh look! OT is hating on Disney.

Shocker.

May 30, 2016 at 8:34 PM · I heard that the wait times have improved a lot. Often 30-35 min., instead of the usual gargantuan waits.
