Jingle Cruise returns to Disney World; Emeril's Tchoup Chop to close

October 27, 2017, 1:52 PM · More comings and goings at the Orlando-area theme parks.

It looks like the Jingle Cruise is returning to the Magic Kingdom for this Christmas holiday season, after all. The Disneyland Resort recently announced that it would not be bringing back the holiday overlay of the Jungle Cruise ride this year, fueling speculation that the overlay would not come back to Walt Disney World, as well.

However, it now appears from multiple reports from cast members that the Jingle Cruise will indeed come back to the Magic Kingdom, starting on November 2. That means the return of the holiday decorations and seasonal spiel, as the skippers celebrate yet another Christmas in the jungle, far away from home. The overlay has been running since 2013.

Over at Universal Orlando, diners are about to bid good-bye to Emeril's Tchoup Chop, Scott Joseph reports.

Emeril Lagasse's restaurant at the Loews Royal Pacific at Universal Orlando will close on Dec. 31. No replacement has been announced. (In fact, Universal has not yet confirmed the closure, but Joseph typically has excellent sources within the local food scene and we trust him on this one.)

This does not affect the Emeril's Orlando restaurant, which is located in a much more high-profile location in Universal Orlando's CityWalk, instead of being tucked in the back of the Royal Pacific.

This may have survived in CityWalk, but not at a resort that already has a solid sushi bar and a luau experience that will always steal guests away from a standard table service restaurant.

October 30, 2017 at 11:46 AM · We were there as a party of 4 on Lunar New Year and the place was packed. We had a great experience but can see how a guest who's not on expense account or getting a convention discount might eat at a more affordable resort eatery. Still, it'll be missed. Let's hope Chef Lagasse has another concept coming in, or maybe his friend Chef Batali...
October 31, 2017 at 10:24 AM · We loved the food at Tchoup Chop but our experience was brutal. I had a reserved a table 3 months in advance and they stuck us right next to the restrooms. I politely asked the staff to relocate us to which they dragged their feet.

Then on returning to my table to tell my wife they were dragging their feet on relocating us I got "linebacker'd by a waiter rushing out of the Kitchen. After they assisted me back up. I asked for the manager and said, we reserved 3 months in advance, its our first visit, I would like to be seated elsewhere. They obliged but.. reluctantly. We did have an awesome waiter though.

When our entrees arrived the manger reappeared only he was not there to ask us how our meal was. He sat down at the table with us, apologized and asked us if he could relocate us. I though he was joking. He was not. He acknowledged that he already moved us so if we were willing to relocate two tables over (which was a far better spot) that he would take our drinks off the bill and provide us additional drinks and deserts. YES, YES, and YES! We still left happy even after the bad start.
