'The First Purge' is coming to Hollywood's Halloween Horror Nights

July 12, 2018, 10:19 PM · The Purge is returning to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood this fall, but this time it is taking center stage as a stand-alone maze, based on the current prequel now in theaters, The First Purge.

From the park's press release: "'The First Purge' maze will reimagine the movie's premise, greeting guests with pure unadulterated fear as it brings to life the turmoil spawned by vigilantes. It will place guests at the heart of a controversial sociological experiment empowered by the New Founding Fathers of America's (NFFA) desire to purge the nation of all hatred and crime by, ironically, permitting crime to take place as a means of ridding society of all ills. Guests will be at the mercy of luck and speed as they attempt to outsmart and outlive the anarchy."

Universal Studios Hollywood's Creative Director for Halloween Horror Nights, John Murdy, talked about the project in a series of Tweets Thursday afternoon.

Obviously The Purge has been a part of HHN for many years, as a scarezone, Terror Tram, a gauntlet and last year as a part of Horrors of Blumhouse. It’s finally becoming a stand alone maze. Based on the new film.

I got involved with this one very early on when Blumhouse sent me the early drafts of the script. It had a wealth of new characters and environments (which are 2 of the 3 things we look for in a maze), none of which had been featured in the franchise before.

And of course it’s a very popular franchise, with a TV series coming from USA this Fall. It’s always been one of the highest rated/requested properties by people who attend HHN (as far as surveys go), so we decided it was time for it to be a standalone maze.

The location of this maze is in the Metro set area of the Universal backlot, where Ash Vs Evil Dead was in HHN 2017. This is also going to be the maze associated with The Twitter Password that I do every year. I’ll give you more info on that when the time comes.

In some countries in the world, The Purge is known by a different name...”American Nightmare” and that’s the inspiration behind this maze. How would it feel to navigate a hellish urban environment where everyone is out to get YOU!

I think a maze has a much different feeling than a scarezone or even the outdoor section of Purge we did for Horrors of Blumhouse last year. It’s much more intense, claustrophobic...and hopefully...more frightening.

There are many different sides to Horror. I think this year’s event offers many different flavors. Stranger Things, Trick R Treat, The First Purge...and...??? There’s a lot more to come. Stay tuned Boils & Ghouls. And thanks for supporting HHN!

The First Purge is the third maze announces for Universal Studios Hollywood's Halloween Horror Nights, following Stranger Things and Trick 'r Treat. Halloween Horror Nights begins Friday, September 14, 2018.

I liked the first 2 movies, did not enjoy Election Year, this one looks like complete propaganda junk. Hopefully this stays on the left coast and doesn't come to Orlando!

That "First Purge" hat poster really triggered people, didn't it?

Blumhouse is becoming the master of the hype game.

Seems like lately, Disney has been doing their own version of Horror nights. "Come to DHS, stay for the outages..."

I've always liked the conceit of The Purge, but the most recent sequel was an obvious attempt to piggyback on the popularity of Get Out by emphasizing racial overtones in a plot that really didn't make sense for what is supposed to be a prequel. As HHN material though, the Purge is solid, and I have no doubt that "Skeletor" will be featured prominently in the maze.

I watched The First Purge last week and loved it, but I am a real fan of all of the films. The concept blows me away. The Purge at HHN Orlando has been fantastic and last year's Scare Zone and staging was better than most of the Houses. Skeletor is tailor-made for HHN and is a superb character for the event. I don't think I could ever get tired of The Purge being a Scare Zone, it should become a HHN tradition.

The First Purge is complete racist garbage and assumes everyone actually believes Trump will bring back the dark ages like the moronic left is spewing.
