Universal Studios Hollywood joins Disneyland in closing

March 12, 2020, 5:18 PM · Following the announcement that the Disneyland theme parks would close Saturday through the end of the month, Universal Studios Hollywood has announced its closure due to the Covid-19 novel coronavirus.

Here is the statement from the park:

The health and safety of our team members and guests is always our top priority. Out of an abundance of caution and in response to the guidance provided by the California Department of Public Health, Universal Studios Hollywood will temporarily close beginning Saturday, March 14. The theme park anticipates reopening on March 28 as we continue to monitor the situation.* (See update.)

Universal CityWalk will remain open. We will provide timely updates as conditions evolve.

The park had planned its grand opening for The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash! on March 27 with annual passholder previews beginning Saturday. Those are now, obviously, not going to happen as scheduled.

*Update: In an email to annual pass holders Friday, Universal said that the closure would last through March 31.
