Universal Orlando announces its Covid-19 closure, too

March 12, 2020, 7:56 PM · Just moments after Walt Disney World announced the closure of its theme parks, the Universal Orlando Resort also announced that its parks will close in response to the global Covid-19 novel coronavirus outbreak, effective Monday, March 16.

Hours earlier, Universal Studios Hollywood announced that it would close, effective Saturday. The Hollywood park said that it anticipated reopening on March 28, while Universal Orlando said that its parks would remain closed through the end of the month.

Universal CityWalk will remain open on both coasts, as will the Universal Orlando hotels. Universal will pay its hourly team members for all scheduled shifts this month.

For more on the coronavirus and travel closures, we are running a daily blog round-up. Here is today's entry, but check the Theme Park Insider front page for additional news.
