Efteling Opens Its New Family Coaster, Max & Moritz

June 20, 2020, 11:39 AM · Efteling today opened its new family coaster, Max & Moritz.

"After saying goodbye to the iconic Bobsleigh ride last year, young visitors to Max & Moritz will be able to share their first roller coaster experience with the whole family," Efteling CEO Fons Jurgens said. "It is a very contemporary and real Efteling ride, based on the German poem about the rascals Max and Moritz. During the ride and in the surrounding area, visitors will find out about Max and Moritz’ tricks and mischief."

As Jurgens said, the dual-tracked Mack Rides production is themed to a 19th century German poem by Wilhelm Busch about two naughty schoolboys who try to escape from the mother's cuckoo clock workshop in self-built boxes. Let's join them, starting with on the Max track, followed by Moritz.

Each ride gets two passes on the track, with a ride through the station in between. Watch carefully for some of the differences between the tracks, such as the "blown out" wall of the station on the Moritz side.

Is the music in the video also on the ride itself? It’s looks to be a great family coaster with two passes, the 2nd pass increasing in speed. FUN!

Yes the beautiful detailed cars have onboard audio and play the music you hear in the video. I’ve ridden it during trial runs for passholders and absolutely loved it. Though certainly not a thrilling ride, it is just a very well themed ride with some great visual jokes. Like the whoopie cushion organ in the queu or the crank where kids can pump untill a water bomb in a pond goes off. Both sides have different tricks the boys pull of ; on one side you see one of the boys jumping on a huge ‘whoopee cushion’ after your first lap, the blow is what speeds up the trains. On the other side a prank blows up the pipe of a teacher, the explosion speeds up the second lap on the other side. the music also speeds up and makes for a laugh out loud feeling. Great ride and for the target audience it’s a perfect way to do your first coaster and work towards the bigger rides.

So the second lap around is faster than the first? Ingenious way to get a kid used to a coaster - they can see the slow pace isn’t so bad - then get to scream “faster!”
