The Future of Superstar Limo?

Disneyland: Will Disney officially throw in the towel on this California Adventure attraction soon?

Well, in a clear sign the ride will not return, Disney started to remove the signage from the ride today at Disney's California Adventure. [Corrected--see below]

On the other hand, they still have not officially admitted that the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walk through has been permanently closed... though all signage and other signs that the attraction existed have been removed.

I have never been to DCA, what was so bad about this ride? I was reading about it and it sounded like it wouldv been an interesting attraction to me. was it just done poorly?

It was rather, well, odd. Basically, you cruise through a building full of bobbleheads of mostly ABC network celebrities, such as Drew Carey and Tim Allen. The funniest gags were actually in the queue area, but there was never a line, so you raced right past them. I did like the cast members' chauffeur outfits, though, and the cars were equipped with video monitors, which would be a nice feature on Disney's other dark rides. One strange bit--Bobblehead Drew is attacked by a man-eating plant. Huh?

It's about time that ride be removed. I rode it once and hated it. The only thing I liked about the ride were the limos with tv moniters of the ride on each row. Superstar Limo is terrible and if the ride was still open and you wanted to ride it now because you wanted to see how bad it was, you would just be wasting your time. That's how bad SL was.

Last night, I posted a thread that mentioned that MouseInfo.com stated that the SSL signs were removed...

Well, I stopped by to take some photos, and to my surprise, the Signs are still there.....

Once again, sorry for the bad report.......

Hmm--according to mouseinfo.com (unless they're just kidding), Superstar Limo has become DCA's designated smoking area. Perfect--who would hang out there anyway? Maybe they should open it up to just smokers. That would increase the traffic.

How about "Supersmoker Limo"? You drive around L.A. in a futile attempt to find a bar or restaurant with a smoking area. Then exit into a smoke shop. Get Altria, or whatever Phillip Morris is calling itself these days, to sponsor it. Then sit back and watch DCA get a ton of publicity.

Of course, it'll all be in reference to the resulting boycotts. But, hey, PR is PR, right?

(I'm kidding. Really.)

"Supersmoker Limo," eh? I like it! They could resurrect the old "paparazzi chase" concept, only this time smokers would be chased by cops carrying fire extinguishers and hoses. Famous smoking celebrities could help you along the way by blowing huge, billowing clouds of foul-smelling tobacco. Better yet, these clouds would be so thick that you couldn't even see them (thus eliminating expensive AAs). "Look, there's (cough! hack!) Bogart! He's got your back, sweetheart! And there's Janeane Garofalo on his arm! You've come a long way, baby!"

And in the final scene, the smoke gets so think you can see a thing... and then we get the "Alien Encounter"-style sensory attraction. Kevin, you finally get your wish!

Actually, maybe we need a thread on attraction ideas for the world's most tasteless or incorrect theme park. This'd be a prime candidate....

Hmm--I remember reading back in the 1980s that the Tubes (of "White Punks on Dope" fame) had proposed an "R-rated" amusement park. Attractions would've included an "Attack of the 50-Foot Woman" parachute drop, from under the dress of the 50-Foot Woman, of course, and a monorail that departed the park's hotel to the sound of a flushing toilet.

Too bad they don't have the stroke to pull this off--or is it?

Didn't they riff on some of those comments in at least one music video? (Good Lord, the fact that I have any brain cells devoted to remembering 1980s MTV frightens and disturbs me.)

You remember correctly. The video for the band's last big hit, "She's a Beauty," featured a "dark ride," which used a unique restraint system--the arms of a typical video babe of the 1980s in bondage gear. Fee Waybill played a carny barker.

I'm an old fan of the Tubes, going back to when I had their debut album on eight-track tape (sick puppy that I am).

I think that Superstar Limo was a cheap ride and it needs to go. I thought that a great replacement for it would be "Mickey Mouse and Friends at the Movies." They could go through some of the most exciting scenes from Hollywood movies such as "Spider-Man" and etc. There could be a combined dark-ride, motion-simulator, and moving veichle scene where you confront Dr. Octopus,no?

Alex,
you are deliberately ignoring the fact that Spiderman is a Universal ride, aren't you?

What I meant by that is Spider-Man can come out for one scene, then switch to another movie, you know like to Indiana Jones or Independence day, ya' know?

I understand what you are saying but Spider-man is owned by Universal and Marvel. Disney can't use Spider-man.

When Disney removes a ride, for good or bad reasons, it is replaced by a modern technology ride. So if this ride is gone... no matter how upset one might be, just wait till you see what Disney will replace it with. Like at the regular Disneyland in California... the Blobsled right was once a giant dirt scenic mountain. Now aren't we glad it's an exciting dark ride?

You should check out Jim Hill's new comments...

http://www.jimhillmedia.com/mb/articles/showarticle.php?ID=1236

>>The current plans call for the existing "Superstar Limo" ride system -- with its bus bars & six passenger cars -- to remain in place. Everything else (I.E. The gaudy Hollywood sets, the minimatronic celebrities) will be torn out. Once that's done, WDI will build DCA's new "Monsters, Inc." themed dark ride around the pre-existing track layout.

Because the budget that's been approved for this new "Monsters, Inc." attraction is actually a tiny one. Which is why this is really just going to a rehab, folks. NOT a brand new state-of-the-art ride which will help relaunch the still-struggling California Adventure theme park.

So -- in the end -- WDI opted to take the cautious & cost concious route with DCA's new "Monsters, Inc." ride.

But again -- just to recap here -- we're not talking about a full-blown brand-new attraction here, folks. Just a "Superstar Limo" redo with a fairly limited budget.<<

So don't be expecting anything more than more Pooh.....

I personally would like to see Rock N Roller coaster without the corkscrews in DCA NO upside downs for me!

I've heard from interviews that the new Monsters, Inc. ride will be a Spiderman/DarKastle-type ride, and had a fairly large budget. The show director said the breakout scene (when the girl is found) would be "awesome."
