Did anyone hear news about Alfredo's restaurant closing on August 31st? I saw this mentioned on an unofficial website, & was wondering if it's closing permanently or perhaps just for rehab.

Yep. A new management company is coming in. But it will remain an Italian restaurant. I can't remember off the top of my head if it is keeping the same name. Help?

Good ridance! It was over priced mediocre food...

No it's not keeping the same name. It's changing to Tutto Italia temporarily. Tutto will then close in Spring 2008. and the restuarant will be completely remodeled. It will open again in Fall 2008 under a new name.

That resturant is world famous and is really in Rome (go check if you do not believe me!). The Fed Alfredo was the best!

But the food is over priced and not very good. I would rather leave the Disney property and go to Carrabba's or even Olive Garden if I was desperate. I just wasn't impressed; our waiter's thick authentic Italian accent did not make up for the mediocre food. I say take your money and try a restaurant from one of the other 10 countries in the world showcase.

1. The American Adv. food is an embarassment to American cooking. So thats the best we could come up with? Fast food? That leaves nine countries!

2. Olive Garden, you must be joking! As a person who is from Chicago which has a very large Italian Population, being from an Italian family that cooks good Italian food, and just coming back from Italy not more than a week ago on the Disney Cruise, Alfredo's is the real deal. Its authentic Italian food. Not the Americanized Olive Garden.

3. Overpriced? All of Disney World is Overpriced!

I'll be honest with you - some of the meals I've had at the Olive Garden were much better than some of the meals I had in Italy so maybe being "processed" ain't always so bad.

I have to say that being married to an italian, living in Brooklyn and going to eat christmas eve fish feasts on staten island, Alfredo's is the real deal, but like all cuisine, its regional...and...please, olive garden is only good if you have no real italian restaurants around. I have eaten there more than once (never my choice) and for the price and quick prep time, it is at best, decent fare.
Now, I have been to Alfredo's many times and I have enjoyed their food in the past, but the last time I got the signature linguine alfredo, I was not happy with it. It was more watery than it had been in years past and the fresh pasta didn't seem so fresh. I have returned to Alfredo's year after year as one of the "good" dinner nights and I have decided that I get better cooking at restaurants and family gatherings than I can get there. I am over it and choose other types of food while I am down there; hopefully some other famous italian restaurant will take its place...and I will try it out and look forward to a good meal. We will just have to see.

I mean its up to everybody's taste. I am glad to see somebody else who shares my view on the Olive Garden. Nothing against the Olive Garden, they got some good food, but its really just a quick fix just as Chipolte or Taco Bell is Mexican food (which it is not).

It being Regional hits the problem right on the head. People are expecting the Americanized version of Italian food which is good, but not authentic. As mentioned before, I went on the Disney Cruise to Italy and we wanted to eat in Alfredo's for lunch which we couldn't because of it being booked (which shows how popular it is). Anyway, our tour guide took us to a small family owned resturant that was tucked away behind the trees. I tell you it was the best food I have ever eaten in my life (it was THAT good). The point of me bringing this up is that the menu did not have the more common American dishes like Spagetti and Meatballs, Chicken Parmagian, and heck, Fed Alfredo. It was more obscure Italian food which they would only serve at Authentic Italian restuant.

I see Alfredo's only crime as being too authentic, which in my opinion, should happen because its World Showcase after all!

Anthony, I was never endorsing Olive Garden... If anything I was doing the opposite, hence the word "desperate". Yes, most of the Epcot countries feature "fast food" kiosks, but I was suggesting one of the other finer dine-in restaraunts like the Japanese steakhouse (have yet to try myself) or Nine Dragons in China (not great, but more impressive than Alfredo's in my opinion).

Let's just make mends Anthony, just like we had done in the days of the Universal versus Disney battles; LoL... I love Disney and Epcot and Italy just as much as you (well...almost as much as you, I'm not quite the Disney freak you are ;), I just don't care as much for Alfredo's.

I will make ammends too :)

For sure, no doubt the Japan Steakhouse is the best! It is surely better than Alfredos. I am going to miss it because it had some of the most awesome Fed Alfredo I have ever eaten. Saying that, thats pretty much all I ordered. Here are my thoughts on all the main eateries of World Showcase

Mexico- Nice atmosphere, but they do not have too many tacos or burritos on the menu since the last time I was there. I mean I know there is more to Mexican food, but thats what they are famous for in my opinion.

Norway- Couldn't tell you, never eaten there!

China- Standard nice Chinese resturant. I go crazy over the red vanilla bean Ice Cream.

Germany- In my opinion the best value because its all you can eat. Saying that, however, means that its a buffet and the food is not the healthiest!

Italy- Well, you know about Alfredo's

American Adventure- An embarassment that we are represented by fast food!

Japan- Probably the finest dining in World Showcase. Very good, but very expensive!

Morocco- Nice enough food if you like that kind of food! It seems nice. Never have actually eaten in there, just at their Tangerine Cafe

France- Never really liked it, but after coming back from France, I might try it again. Always crowded!

England- Never my favorite, but its Pub Food and the UK really is not known for their food (unless you mean fish and chips)

Canada- One of my personal favorites because I enjoy steak and Cheddar Cheese Soup. Being from Chicago, the food is very similar (we have alot of Steakhouses)

Anthony, I find it very ironic that you praise Alfredos for having genuine Italian cuisine instead of the Americanized stuff, and then you criticize San Angel for not having tacos and burritos and other totally Americanized stuff! ;)

Well then, you caught me in a bind! You are totally right!

Still, when you think of what each place is famous for, you can still get it in their main place. You can get Spagetti and Meatballs and Chicken Parmagina and stuff like that. Japan, Sushi! Germany, sausages of all kinds! USA, well I guess fast food! China, eggrolls! Mexico seems like the odd man out!

Hopefully they have some plan to improve it, but it WASN'T bad. As long as they keep the dessert and drink cart/kiosk out in front where I can get those awesome Italian margaritas...I'll be just fine.
