XScream Opens In Las Vegas

Las Vegas: The Stratosphere in Las Vegas didn't get approval for a new mega-coaster, but it is debuting a new flat ride that dangles riders 30 feet beyond the tower's observation deck, 900 feet above the ground.

XScream Opens In Las Vegas

Passengers experience free-fall maneuvers approximately 900 feet above the famed 'Strip" at speeds reaching 30 miles per hour!

XScream consists of an open, floorless vehicle that holds eight passengers in escape proof seats. An unobstructed view of the world-famous Las Vegas Strip rewards those riders brave enough to ride.

Now that's a ride I'd love to ride! I wonder how many people will chicken out last minute? Who here has ridden this already?

I anxiously await Robert's ride review in the LA Times. =)

You and me both ;-)

Actually, I've not had any luck in getting The Times to send me beyond SoCal for attraction reviews. And Tribune's management doesn't consider Vegas "local," as Times Mirror's did.

No worries Robert. This attraction didn't live up to the hype I had built up. Quite frankly I was pissed off that this ride could be so -- boring.

I took the train from Santa Barbara to Burbank, where I caught a southwest flight to Las Vegas. Got to Las Vegas, and took a taxi to the startosphere. And that was about all the excitement I was going to get.

The ride rolls down and picks up speed, and brakes oh so smooth. I almost felt as if I was ontop of startosphere checking out Las Vegas, not on a, "thrill ride." I met up with some college friends, and went into town.

This ride was more of a observation deck on wheels, then a thrill ride. if you're in Las Vegas, don't waste your money -- use that money to eat a good dinner.;)

Thank god the times didn't send Robert to Las Vegas, On the other hand, you did miss out on aladdin buffet=).

Heck, Las Vegas (clark county)is on the outskirts of San Bernandino county -- so it's close enough to LA for me Robert.=)

Thanks for the trip report, Jason.

I have got to get back to Vegas and do the Aladdin buffet one last time before Planet Hollywood takes over the hotel and wrecks the thing. Unfortunately, spontaneous Vegas trips are kinda hard to do with the kids around.

Though, I suppose, that ultimately that's probably for the best....

(By the way, TPI members can rate and review XScream here.)

With a 47th birthday coming up and a convention in vegas, I went to ride the XScream with the hopes of "recharging" some excitement in my life. Perhaps a life changing experiance. I got however, a big yawn. I have not been on a thrill ride in years, I felt it was more of moving observation deck. I went on it again, hopeing to get the front seat, in the chance the thrill would be greater, since no seats in front of you to "block" the view. I had no luck. The second time(again in the second row) I made "scary" faces and clowned around to the on lookers and cameras, just so they would have something to take back. I thought the NY NY roller coaster was more exciting.

And painful, don't forget painful.

The ride was rather fun, but expensive for the few seconds it lasted... Gave me a good scare, though.

I just rode it for the first time Sept 4 and didn't find it scary at all. I still get a thrill from BigShot, but found X-scream boring. The anticipation was way worse than the ride.

How much is it to ride??

I paid $20.95 and that was to go up in the tower and ride 2 rides. You have to pay just to go up the tower. Great view, though. Insanity wasn't running at the time.
Manhattan Express, the coaster at NYNY costs $12.50 and I couldn't bring myself to pay that for ONE roller coaster.

Hey Claudine, the hotel I stayed at (Stratosphere) had a sort of tour booklet in my room w/coupons for the different attractions including $3 off of Manhattan Xpress, also an all day coupon for Circus Circus dome for $18. The next time you go, ck to see if your hotel has one of those books or find discounts online. Sheesh the amount I paid was only like $4 to go up in the tower, $4 for High Roller & I think $3 for Big Shot (no other rides were there at the time but you won't catch ME on those crazy things!). I guess they hafta pay for those crazy rides somehow but I do agree that $12.50 is a bit much for that one. First time I went, the Sahara/Nascar Cafe coaster (sorry I forget the name) was $7 now it's $10, a bit much for such a short ride, I see paying $7 but $10?? come on. Same w/the Desperado, it WAS $5 the first time I went & now it's $7, not much of a price hike but it's a long coaster so I didn't really mind the price.

Adrienne, When I went in 2003, I did ride Desperado for $6. I stayed in a timeshare and they had tons of coupons. This time I stayed at the Mirage and I didn't see anything. They want you to do all MGM/Mirage stuff. Thanks for the advice. Next time I'll stay longer and do more stuff, so I'll be looking. I don't think I missed anything because I'm going to BGE soon and THAT will be well worth the money.

No problem, glad to pass along any info you might not have known about. Have fun at BGE! Yes, it IS worth it!

I know it was over very quickly and a bit pricey for what it is, but for someone like me who hates heights this was one of the scariest rides ever. It actually made me cry (sad but true).
