Six Flags Magic Mountain adds Santa-themed overlay to its VR coaster

November 9, 2016, 11:16 AM · Six Flags Magic Mountain is changing its virtual reality experience on The New Revolution roller coaster for the holiday season.

The park announced to passholders this morning that the alien invasion storyline will be replaced by "Santa's Wild Sleigh Ride."

Join Santa and his reindeer on a sleigh ride and help battle a mischievous elf who tries to stop you from delivering toys. As you fly through the city to experience the coaster's twists and turns, riders dodge obstacles and launch snowballs at flying targets. Santa's Wild Sleigh Ride will debut in our all-new themed area, Santa's Star-Spangled Plaza.

The overlay will be park of Six Flags Magic Mountain's Holiday in the Park celebration, which runs selected days from November 19 - January 1.

Six Flags recently changed the original New Revolution VR overlay for a plussed "Rage of the Gargoyles" version for Fright Fest at several parks. The addition of a Christmas version shows that Six Flags is moving toward a Disneyland-like model of seasonal overlays on its VR coasters, which should hep encourage repeat visits from Six Flags' base of season pass holders.
