Carowinds announces Copperhead Strike launch coaster for 2019

August 30, 2018, 1:34 PM · Carowinds will build its first double launch coaster for 2019, when Copperhead Strike opens at the Carolinas' theme park.

The Mack Rides launch coaster will feature a zero-to-42 mph launch in two seconds and a second launch from 35 to 50 mph. Riders will go through five inversions along the 3,255 feet of track.

Carowinds' story on the coaster is that you've snuck out to "a run-down, broken-down farm at the far edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains" to order to get your hands on Granny Byrd's prize-winning jam recipe. But it turns out that Granny ain't cooking jam on her farm and she's fixin' to take care of you for finding out. Your choice? The business end of granny's gun... or a ride on Copperhead Strike.

Copperhead Strike will anchor a newly-themed, seven-acre Blue Ridge Junction land in the park.

I'm not sure I get the "story," but I give Carowinds credit for adding a little bit of theme!

Looks pretty solid and makes me wish I'd postponed my visit to Carowinds 2 weeks ago until next year. Although not a great fan of Mack wild mouse rides, after riding Time Traveler I'm a fan of the company in general.

@Bobbie - If this is anything like Manta at Sea World San Diego, it will be a HUGE hit. That Mack coaster is probably one of my favorite launching coasters in the world (up there with Maverick), and it never gets more than 30 feet above the ground. I'm just hoping they don't Rick-Roll guests again with another #whatsintheshed nonsense.

Carowinds is turning into quite a well-rounded park, yet is often neglected when discussed among the best amusement parks in the US.

Copperhead Strike should be a great addition to the park, especially with the new 'themed' area. The country kitchen sounds good for an eatery as well. After the SV problems early on at CP, I'm going to wait until the last full week in August before I revisit the park. I checked the live cams during that time a week back, and the park was deserted, so I'm hoping for plenty of ride time on Copperhead Strike as well as on my (at the moment) #1 favorite coaster ... Fury 325 ... !!

Carowinds advertised this as their biggest announcement ever but I don't get it. How is this better than the Intimidator?
