Universal Orlando announces 2019 Mardi Gras concert line-up

January 10, 2019, 12:40 PM · Universal Orlando this morning announced 10 of 13 acts that will headline its 2019 Mardi Gras celebration at Universal Studios Florida.

Mardi Gras kicks off at the park on February 9, running through April 4 this spring. In addition to the headline concerts every Saturday night (and the occasional Sunday), Universal's Mardi Gras includes a daily family-friendly parade and a Cajun food festival.

Here is the 2019 Mardi Gras concert line-up:
February 9 – Bush
February 16 – Gavin DeGraw
February 17 – Dan + Shay
February 23 – Macklemore
March 2 – Updated: Sabrina Carpenter
March 9 – Becky G
March 10 – Sean Paul
March 16 – Steve Miller Band
March 17 – Ziggy Marley
March 23 – NF
March 24 – Pitbull
March 30 – Updated: Bazzi
March 31 – To be announced

The theme for this year's parade will be "Party Animals," and the 12-float procession will include six new floats featuring animals from the arctic, jungle, ocean and more. Universal float builder is Kern Studios, which has been creating floats for New Orleans' Mardi Gras since 1947.

The big change this year will be with the food, as Universal is saying that this year's Cajun eats and drinks will be served in "tasting sizes." The idea seems to be to emulate the food festivals that have become so popular at the Disney and SeaWorld parks, where the focus is on trying multiple dishes rather than just tucking into a single entree for a full meal. No word yet on what the prices will be this year for the new portion sizes. But Universal promises frog legs, crab etouffee, and craft beer flights to join the traditional line-up of gumbo, jambalaya, and po boys.

I've heard folks suggest this change with the food in years past. The smaller and cheaper portions mean you can taste and try a wider variety of fun things. Unfortunately, the thought is also that the price will drop in half but the portion will drop by two thirds.

Oh well... let see if the same folks that hung out at HHN will hang out at Mardi Gras. I hope to see some of you all around!
