Epcot's Liberty Inn is closing to make way for beer and barbecue

June 27, 2019, 6:38 PM · Walt Disney World announced today that it will close the Liberty Inn restaurant at Epcot's America pavilion next month.

The quick service restaurant next to The American Adventure animatronic show has languished near the bottom of our reader ratings for years. Next to the wide variety of global cuisine offered in Epcot's other World Showcase pavilions, not to mention the park's now-nearly-year-'round food festivals, the burgers and fried fare at Liberty Inn just could not compete.

So Disney will instead turn to good ole American barbecue and beer to uphold the culinary honor of the United States at its "home" World Showcase pavilion. Regal Eagle Smokehouse: Craft Drafts and Barbecue will feature an in-house BBQ smoker and craft beers on tap in a redesigned space. Liberty Inn will close July 8 to make room for the new restaurant, which will open at an as-yet-unannounced date later this year.

No one has reason to miss the Liberty Inn so good news- think the Cast Member breakroom cafe behind American Adventure sees more traffic than the on stage restaurant they're replacing here. Though doubt my neighbors on BoardWalk's Big River Grill will not be pleased to have a place featuring craft beers so near....

If it's not Texas BBQ, then I don't want it. I highly doubt Disney could ever replicate it either.

We head to the Liberty Inn to grab a bite or a soda when we're at Epcot to attend a Food & Wine or Flower & Garden concert. I'll miss the place and can't say I'm happy it's being closed. But, if it means the concert venue will be free from the smoke from the BBQ they've got out there now, it'll be an improvement.
