First look at Walt Disney World's new Halloween fireworks

August 9, 2019, 3:44 PM · Disney is rolling out two new nighttime spectaculars this year for its after-hours Halloween parties at the Walt Disney World and Disneyland resorts.

We previously brought you a first look at the Villainous! World of Color show at Disney California Adventure's Oogie Boogie Bash, but Disney did not allow us to record video of that performance. However, Disney now has dropped a video first look at its upcoming Disney's Not So Spooky Spectacular fireworks from the Magic Kingdom's Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

Hosted by Jack Skellington, Disney's Not So Spooky Spectacular uses projection mapping on Cinderella Castle to help tell a story about Jack's dog Zero leading a trick-or-treating adventure that ends up with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald stuck in a haunted house.

The show will run during the 36 nights of Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which kick off one week from tonight, on August 16. The hard-ticket event wraps on November 1 this year and also includes Mickey's Boo-To-You Halloween Parade, a DescenDANCE Party in Tomorrowland's Cosmic Ray's, Storybook Circus Disney Junior Jam in Fantasyland, Halloween music and lighting on Mad Tea Party, live pirates inside Pirates of the Caribbean, and a completely dark Space Mountain, plus unlimited, all-ages trick-or-treating throughout the park, including a new treat trail at Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor.

Tickets start at $79 and vary by evening with the top price $135 for Halloween night, October 31. You can get them on the Disney World website.

Thanks for the close-up of Jack! When I first saw Disney's video, I thought maybe he was a Tupac-style "hologram" in front of the castle (I know, not a hologram, but the misnomer for the video Pepper's Ghost effect is harmless so I go along with it). Now I can see that that's not the case...but this puppetry might be even more impressive.

I was fortunate (unfortunate) enough to have been woken up by the Halloween fireworks test around 6am on Tuesday. Once I realised there wasn’t someone roaming the wilderness lodge with a gun it was quite an enjoyable watch!

The only problem I see with having Jack host this show is that the already insane lines to meet him and Sally will be even longer than they are now since meet and greets will have to take 20-30 minute break during each performance in addition to the standard @5 minutes every half hour for the characters to "take a break" backstage. We waited in line for just over 2 hours to meet Jack and Sally in 2017, and while the experience was very solid and almost worth the obscene wait, I think it's frustrating that Disney would deliberately take away its most popular MNSSHP meet and greet character just so he can appear during the fireworks/projection show.
