Emperor takes its first test runs in San Diego

March 9, 2020, 10:20 PM · On the same day that Iron Gwazi began testing at Busch Gardens Tampa, its corporate sibling coaster Emperor made its first test runs at SeaWorld San Diego.

Emperor is the San Diego park's new Bolliger & Mabillard dive coaster - the first of its model in the western United States. Let's take a look at it in action.

Emperor did not appear to be running with the hold brake atop the dive drop that's traditional on this model, so I wonder just how fast the coaster will be running when it opens to guests this spring. But the B&M dive consistently ranks among fans' favorite roller coaster models, and Emperor certainly looks like will continue B&M's record of offering a fun ride.

Won't lie, this looks better than I imagined. Great speed off the drop for a shorter dive machine and that overbank is pretty much a 4th inversion. Looks whippy on the tighter inversions too. Hopefully getting out to California next year to ride this and West Coast Racers.
