'Maverick' coming to Cedar Point

February 6, 2006, 9:24 PM · Much buzz building around the ole' Internets upon the discovery that Cedar Point has filed a trademark application on the title "Maverick" for a new theme park attraction.

The application, which has not yet been reviewed or approved, is not only for the attraction, but for a host of related Maverick-themed souvenirs -- even for "on-line electronic greeting cards." (Think the e-mailed photos one can send oneself after riding Disneyland's Buzz Lightyear ride, perhaps?) Playing "connect the dots," and one can assume that perhaps "Maverick" will be the name for the new coaster -- a B&M Flyer? -- that many park-watchers believe will go in the old Whitewater Landing spot for the 2007 season.

February 7, 2006 at 9:25 AM · The question remains, what exactly is Maverick going to be. The name fits with the old west part of the park that White Water Landing used to be in. I have to believe it's a coaster of some kind, but what? I'd like to believe it's a flyer because it makes sense, and that's what I would like it to be, but it could be a water coaster or a dive machine ala Sheikra, or something else. I just hope they don't totally clear out all the trees that are back in that section. I really enjoy the relaxed and shaded atmosphere back there. Even so, that part of the park has been a bit lifeless for a while, so it will be good to have some of that crowd away from the front of the park.
