First Look at the Largest Disney Theme Park Castle in the World

January 23, 2015, 2:26 PM · Courtesy Stefan Zwanzger, we have our first look at the Enchanted Storybook Castle as it takes shape at Shanghai Disneyland.

Shanghai's castle will be Disney's largest, housing a boat ride as well as a princess meet and greet, a "Once Upon a Time Adventure" walk-through attraction, and a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Here's what the exterior will look like, according to Disney's design concept:

The park was scheduled for completion by the end of this year, but that deadline has slipped, and now insiders are hoping for a 2016 opening.

January 23, 2015 at 3:12 PM · Will this be considered, officialy, a Sleepy Beauty or Cinderella Castle?

Aren't there only 2 Cinderella castle's (Tokyo & MK)? I assume all the others are "Sleepys"

January 23, 2015 at 3:23 PM · I think Paris has Belle's Castle, doesn't it?
January 23, 2015 at 3:37 PM · No, Paris' is Sleeping Beauty's.
January 23, 2015 at 4:03 PM · it will be neither sleeping beauty or cinderella. it is a combination of different castles, to represent the different princesses. snow white will be represented along with cinderella, belle, sleeping beauty and more.
January 23, 2015 at 4:31 PM · This castle will be the first one without a dedicated princess attachment. Earlier it was referred to as a fairytale or enchanted castle. Other parks have either a sleeping beauty castle or cinderella. Disneyland, Paris and Hong Kong are sleeping beauty (even though Paris looks very different from the other two). WDW and Tokyo have cinderella castle nearly identical originally but with different paint jobs now.
January 23, 2015 at 4:51 PM · Brian, you're sort of right about the 'Belle' part... Paris' castle is called Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant - which is French for Sleeping Beauty's castle.
January 23, 2015 at 5:49 PM · This castle sounds amazing. I can't wait to... oh wait... its overseas. *sigh*.
January 23, 2015 at 7:50 PM · This castle's size is impressive-looking. But it looks like Cinderella Castle on steroids to me. I still think (by far) that the Paris castle is the prettiest. I believe in Robert's Top Ten Castles post a while back, he said he thought Paris was the best...until Shanghai opens. But I strongly disagree based on the concept art.

January 23, 2015 at 9:55 PM · James: If you buy a two park ticket to Universal Orlando, the Hogwart's Express (on the TPI Special Steroids Edition, First Class only) will take you to Shanghai, one way. Very cost effective. Or so they say.
January 23, 2015 at 10:59 PM · According to a post on MiceChat, the castle will be called the "Enchanted Storybook Castle". Is that a generic name or what?!
January 23, 2015 at 11:03 PM · and...I just realized that post was from 2011. That's what I get for posting in here sleep-deprived, having just returned from a visit to the ER with my wife for her migraine, and with a glass of wine to help me relax a bit from the stress. Too tired, too relaxed, and too...uh...something...time for bed....zzz.zz.z...
January 24, 2015 at 11:16 AM · @Rob With all these cases of measles and other airborne illness going around do you really think I should pay $40 to ride some train guaranteed to give me Hogwarts? Ewwwww....
January 24, 2015 at 1:44 PM · James: Pretty good. A good laugh for all.
January 26, 2015 at 9:45 AM · I think the most impressive part of Cinderella's castle in WDW and the reason which lifts it above all others is the suite. When I went there it was amazing!
