Cedar Point offers new tastes and treats for its 2019 season

February 22, 2019, 12:53 PM · Cedar Point is looking to food and music to entice fans to visit America's Roller Coast again this summer. The park announced two new restaurants and a renamed and expanded summer festival today.

Hugo's Italian Kitchen will replace the former Midway Market location next to the Raptor roller coaster. Featuring traditional Italian favorites, Hugo's will offer pizzas from a open-flame brick oven, as well as pastas, salads, meatball sandwiches, and chicken parm sandwiches.

Over on the Gemini Midway, BackBeatQue will offer live music from the BackBeat Quartet in a Rock and Motown-inspired barbecue restaurant. The menu will include smoked brisket, pork, rotisserie chicken, and because we're on Lake Erie here... fresh perch. On the side, BackBeatQue will offer up okra, cornbread muffins, and mac and cheese.

Gossip Gulch Stage

The Cedar Point Brew and BBQ festival this year becomes the "Frontier Festival," an "immersive Old West, sunflower-inspired street festival with local artisans, kids’ crafts and games, continuous live entertainment and wild food and drink to sample and savor," the park said in its press release.

Barbecue and craft beers remain on the menu, but the focus expands to make the event play toward the whole family.

A bounty of family activities will be available, including the Flower Patch – an opportunity for kids to choose their own flower and decorate their own flowerpot; the Junkyard Jamboree – where guests can make their own music on antique metal items; and the daily Balloon Stampede – where kids can stomp on balloons for prizes.

Guests can also enjoy live music from Cedar Point’s Bluegrass Jamboree and other local bands on the Gossip Gulch Stage. Plus, guests can tap their boots during line and square dancing lessons at the Hubbub Hoedown and meet the Frontier Townsfolk for special photo opportunities.

The Frontier Festival will run in the evenings from 4-10pm on June 7 through 30. Cedar Point opens for its 2019 season on May 11.

Did Cedar Point mention whether Hugo's would offer an All-You-Can-Eat option that was available from its predecessor, Midway Market?

The press release didn't say, but I doubt it. I'm really happy to see that there still will be a place to get perch at CP, since they won't serve it at the stand by Gatekeeper anymore. Cedar Point is really trying to up their game in the food category- can't wait to do a taste test myself!
