Candymonium Takes First Test Run at Hersheypark

May 5, 2020, 10:20 PM · Just because theme parks around the nation and world are closed to visitors doesn't mean that nothing's happening inside them. Work continues at some parks on new attractions, including at Hersheypark, where Candymonium today made its first test run.

The Bolliger & Mabillard hyper coaster anchors the park's 2020 expansion project, which also includes the new Hershey's Chocolatetown entrance plaza.

Candymonium features a top speed of 76 mph following a 210-foot drop on a 4,636-foot run, making this the park's longest, tallest, and fastest roller coaster. The layout features seven camelback hills and a 123-degree hammerhead curve, finishing with a banked curve that wraps around the park's new icon, the Kisses Fountain. The coaster's three trains will be colored and themed to Hershey's Kisses candies, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and Twizzlers Twists.

Hersheypark has said that it is working to open in early June, pending approval from state authorities. But there's no specific opening date yet. Still, it appears that the park is preparing to have Candymonium ready for its reopening, whenever that turns out to be.

FYI: Holiday World (Indiana) has announced June 14 opening. Many of same interventions as listed for Florida theme parks. Family and I had planned to go in mid summer.

PS: Robert, bought your book and could not put it down. Way more informative (accidentally?) and funnier than most YouTube "former Castmember" tell alls.

@Gosbee. June 14th. Donald Trump's birthday. Interesting.

Not really interesting at all, actually.

I prefer B&M coasters myself. I've always considered them the gold standard - like Coke. Intamin is Pepsi. I'll ride (and enjoy) both. No issues at all! But if I had to choose, I'd choose B&M pretty much all day, every day.

Intamin/Pepsi? B&M/Coke?

Was looking forward to riding this new coaster at the end of the month, but the pandemic changed those plans. Now the way things look for me I will be waiting until May next year. Bummer
