Disney's California AdventureAnaheim, CaliforniaDescriptionLocation: Disney's California Adventure is part of the Disneyland Resort, located just off I-5 in Anaheim, California, one hour south of downtown Los Angeles. You can get driving directions by clicking the Disneyland link on Theme Park Insider's Google map of U.S. theme parks. History: California Adventure opened in February 2001, as part of a billion-dollar makeover of the Disneyland Resort. Hours: http://disneyland.disney.go.com. Disney's California Adventure rarely sees capacity crowds -- only when neighboring Disneyland shuts its gates due to overcrowding, such as on the Fourth of July and afternoons between Christmas and the Rose Bowl Game. Tickets: Order online. Always try to buy your tickets in advance, to save time when you get to the park. If you live in Southern California, read our advice on whether you should buy a Disneyland Resort annual pass. Reservations: Your admission ticket allow you to get one, free FastPass ride reservation ticket at a time. If your reservation time is more than two hours in advance, you may make get a second FastPass after two hours. FastPass is available on selected popular rides. You won't need to use FastPasses on less crowded days, but could hit long stand-by lines if you choose to go on a FastPass ride at mid-day without a FastPass ticket. Strategy: Check at the front gate to see if California Screamin' is open. The must-rides here are Screamin', Soarin', the Grizzly River Run and Tower of Terror. The Tower has the quickest-moving lines, and can be saved for last (it's the best ride, anyway). Use FastPass for Soarin'. You can finish all four rides within two hours on most days. Check out Monsters, Inc. and the Aladdin show if you have kids, then head back across the esplanade to Disneyland. Rumors: Toy Story (Midway) Mania, a new interactive dark ride, will debut underneath Screamin' in June, 2008. A high-speed auto ride themed to Pixar's 'Cars' is said to debut in 2012 in a brand new land currently titled as 'Carsland.' The Paradise Pier area will also see a Little Mermaid themed family attraction to take place of the Golden Dreams show, and will be re-themed to a more victorian nostalgic boardwalk. Maliboomer will be taken out, and Mulholland Madness will be renamed Goofy's Sky School. A restaurant, known as Beer Garden, will replace Burger Invasion and Pizza Ooo-mow-mow. Also, and outdoor ampitheater for the Disney's World of Color show will be added, with the palace of fine arts being relocated to that location. The changes are part of a billion-dollar-plus revamp of the park that will see additional Disney-animation and Pixar-themed attractions added to the park, as well as a makeover of the park's front entrance, which will include an icon inspired by the Carthay Circle Theater, located in Los Angeles. The entry plaza will also see the addition of trolley cars that will travel through a re-tooled backlot area. Also, the condor flats area will be rethemed to fit more into the forest theme of the golden state. -- Last edited by Jack Williams [Update this description | Read previous versions] PhotosWhere to stay?
